Chapter 13

**** Aidrian's POV******

On the way to the hospital, Josh recounted everything that had happened in the diner, including the three men who had gone barging in and started tearing up the place.

His next words sent a chill down my spine.

" It was almost like they were rabid," He stated, looking over at me

I pulled out my phone and made a call to the pack doctor and informed her I wanted them tested right away to find out what we were dealing with.

As soon as we pulled up to the front of the hospital, I whipped into the reserved parking spot and raced inside to be with Shiann and make sure she was ok.

I saw a doctor and walked over to him. " Where is my mate?" I asked

He looked up " Alpha please follow me" He said leading me down a hallway that seemed like it went on forever and the walls were painted white, the tiles were a black and white pattern, finally we reached a door at the end of the hallway and upon entering I could see her lying on the bed.

She had oxygen prongs on her nose and still looked pale, and she still hadn't woken up yet.

" I have contacted her aunt and uncle," came a voice from behind me. I turned to see Jacob standing there.

" Where are her aunt and uncle? why was she living alone? " I had so many questions but knew I would have to wait to get most of them.

But while I waited, I just wanted to by her side. I reached over and held her much smaller hand in mine I could feel the sparks dance along my skin where out hands touched and as I looked at her, she looked so beautiful lying there even though she was still very pale.

I sighed and wondered if things would ever stop long enough for me to get to know my mate.

I knew the mate bond was getting stronger, but I still knew that she was anxious around me and afraid, I was determined to find out why.

Things grew quiet in the room, that is until the pack doctor walked in, " Alpha, can I speak to please?" She questioned, looking at my mate who had started to stir.

I nodded and indicated that Jacob and Josh follow.

Once outside her room, the doctor handed me the report, I looked them over and raised my eyes to her, " Are you sure about this?" I asked her

"Yes I triple checked them" she said nodding her head sadly, " they did not have rabies but someone had injected them with a very powerful drug to make them act that way," She told us looking from one face to the other.

"What drug? and how would it have influenced them in the way that it did?

Beta Jacob asked her, seemingly confused

" Well, they are still alive," the doctor stated, surprising us.

" But I thought they were dead," Josh told us, confused

" No, they were unconscious," she answered, " but we are running more tests on them, and until we know what drugs were used, we have them strapped to the beds."

" I will also have a couple of warriors there just in case,"

she turned and was about to walk away when Jacob called out to her " wait"

She turned back with a questioning look, " How do you know someone did this to them, and they didn't do this to themselves?" he asked

" Because of where the puncture marks were found," she told him

" And where were they found?" I asked after realizing she wasn't going to say anymore.

" At the base of the neck," she said, turning to leave.

" Great," I growled. " Now we have two mysteries to solve.

****** Jacob's POV******

Seeing my Alpha and my best friend dealing with all this s**t plus trying to help his mate made me realize just how strong he really is.

I haven't had the chance to let him know yet what I was able to learn about Shiann 's past.

I know she is strong, but she was hurt, and her aunt and uncle are very worried about her, which I totally understand.

Her aunt and uncle finally show up just after a while.

They rushed to her bedside, seemingly not noticing Alpha Aidrian, who was still there holding her hand.

"Oh baby girl," Her aunt said so quietly. " I'm sorry," she sobbed.

Her uncle put his arm around her shoulders to comfort her.

" Who are you two?" Alpha Aidrian asked them

" I'm Robert, and this is my wife Patricia. we are Shiann's aunt and uncle," he answered with his eyes cold but with fear in them too.

It was weird that I needed to figure out what was going on and fast.

"Alpha, can we go somewhere to talk privately, please?" Patricia asked him.

He gave a quick nod and turned to me. " Watch my mate," he ordered before turning and walking out the door with her aunt and uncle close behind him
