Chapter 12

***** Shiann's POV ****** As I was about to go to the back to get another order that was ready, some men came barging in covered in blood and started attacking the customer. I stared wide-eyed, terrified. I turned and ran out the back. I could vaguely hear people calling to me, but I needed to run. I didn't know where I was going; I just ran. I could see footfalls approaching me as I ran, not knowing who it was. I ran harder and faster, stumbling a few times but never stopping. Tears ran down my face, blurring my vision as the dark clouds overhead opened up and started pouring down; when a loud crack of thunder crashed over my head, I felt my heart pound in my chest like it was threatening to burst from my chest. It felt like I had run forever when my little cabin came into view, and I ran straight for it. I got the spare key out of its hiding spot, opened the door, and hurried inside. I slammed the door and locked it. I sank down to the floor and cried so hard I was having trouble catching my breath as memories came flooding back; tears streamed down my face as I struggled to breathe, and my heart was thumping so hard in my chest. I could walk around my cabin, but they didn't try to get in. Eventually, I succumbed to the darkness that had been threatening to engulf me. ****** Unknown POV ****** I was sitting in the corner watching my love work and tend to the customers. I knew she was upset about something, that is, until I heard her ask someone to check on the other girl who works there. They refused, which made no sense to me. I know that girls are going missing (yes, I am responsible for that), but not checking on her sounds cold to me. She seemed to do okay, though you could tell she wasn't herself, as her concern only grew as the day wore on. I nearly jumped out of my seat when a guy at the counter grabbed me., I growled softly, and she looked around, so I was unsure if she had heard me. " What's wrong?" I heard him ask him. She looked nervous when she answered him " Um....nothing." I heard her tell him Things seemed to calm down as she went from customer to customer, taking orders, filling coffee cups, and making small talk with some customers. But I noticed I wasn't the only one watching her. There was a man with dirty blonde hair and pale blue eyes. He looked strong with his broad shoulders and muscular arms. I'm not sure how tall he is, though. Every time she got close to him, his eyes lit up, and he smiled. he was trying hard to engage her in conversation. She would talk to him for a couple of minutes, but they were too far away for me to hear what was being said. Shiann came back to my table and looked at my coffee cup. " Refill? " she asked I nodded, lifting up my cup for her. After filling my cup, she places my bill on the table and turns to leave, " Wait," I say, grabbing her wrist She turned back to me, waiting to see what I wanted. Feeling nervous, I stammer out, " I...Um... would you like to have a coffee with me?" I feel foolish. Why was I so nervous about her? " Um...." she looked around nervously before she looked back at me. " as friends?' she asked " I...um..have a mate," she tells me " As friends," I tell her " Ok." She agrees and gives me her phone number, not knowing I already have it " Oh, what is your name ?" she asks me, looking me in the eye " Jason," I tell her She nods, puts the coffee pot back on the coffee maker,r and heads to the back when three men covered in blood barge in and start attacking the customers; there were screams from the women as the men started fighting to protect them. I looked back to see the battle rage. I shook my head. It was only three men, and I knew the Alpha's Gamma was here, as were some of his warriors. I knew they were here to protect her. I watched them fight, but it was over as fast as it started. The three men lay on the ground dead, the place had blood everywhere, and there were several that were injured. I could hear the sirens of ambulances racing to the diner. I turned to enter the back to find her. I rushed around, looking for her. I turned and noticed the back door wide open, and I realized she had run out the door. I raced out the door just in time for the rain to start. Before I reached the tree line, it was pouring rain. I realized I wouldn't be able to track her now that the rain had washed away her scent and footprints. I growl loudly, knowing she is out there alone and I can't find her. ****** Aidrian's POV******* I started to hear screaming through the mind link about an attack that was happening at the diner. My heart nearly stopped. Shiann was there, I sped up to get there as fast as possible. Jacob looked at me. Concern was written all over his face, and in his eyes, I knew it was a concern for his Luna. I pulled up in front and raced in to find three bodies lying on the floor. People were injured all around me, my eyes scanned the diner, and I didn't see my mate. I saw my Gamma, who was in charge of her security. His eyes were glazed over, and I could tell he was talking with someone. I Mind-linked one of the warriors that I had left as well.' Where is my mate?' I growled through the link 'She ran to a cabin and is now locked inside. I didn't hear anything, and I didn't want to force entry without your sa,' came the response 'No, I am on my way!" I tell him. Then I look at Jacob. " Can you handle things here? I need to go find my mate." He nods. " Yeah, no problem," He says. My Gamma finally looks at me. " Alpha, " he looks terrified, and he's lucky that I know where my mate is, or I would rip him apart for losing her. I gave him one job, one f**king job,b, and he failed to do that. " I know where she is," he tells me, leading me through the kitchen to the back door and stripping down. I do the same, and we shift at the same time. I pick my clothes up in my mouth and take off my huge black wolf much faster than his smaller grey wolf, but my wolf slows just enough to keep pace with him, even though he wants to rip him apart and then go get our mate, but he doesn't. Soon, though, my wolf catches her scent, and I look up and see we are in front of the cottage. I listen, and I hear nothing, making my heart squeeze with fear. What if she's hurt or worse? " Is there another door?" I ask my warriors, one of whom I recognize as Gavin, to step forward. " Yes, Alpha," he says, leading me around the back, where I find glass doors. Walking up on the porch and peering in, I could tell that they led to a small living room. I tried the doors, and of course, they were locked. I looked around and found a chair that I grabbed, using it to break the glass and get in. I looked around and realized this was my mate's home. Then, as I rounded the corner from the living room, what I saw made me panic. I saw my mate slump over on the floor. I run over and brush the hair from her face, seeing how pale she is. I breathe a sigh of relief when I hear her steady heartbeat and soft breathing. I carefully lift her in my arms as Gavin opens the front door for me and Irace, carrying her, heading back to the diner. Once we returned, I took her around and carried her to one of the waiting ambulances, where they placed her on a stretcher. They took off with my mate. And I climbed in my car and was just about to take off when Josh jumped in beside me, I speed off toward the hospital, needing to be close to my mate.
