Aidrian's POV
I must have stayed like that for a couple of hours before Jacob came in.
"He's gone," he said as he sat down.
"Do you think he's the one spearheading the quest to take my mate?" my wolf and I said at the same time, reflecting how furious we were that someone would even think of taking her away from us.
"I don't know," sounding more tired than I can remember him ever sounding.
I felt Shiann start to stir and looked over at Jacob just as we both heard her. " Jacob, Aidrian, what's going on ?" She asked with her voice still heavy with sleep.
"Nothing that you need to worry about, Luna," Jacob answered her before I could.
"Hmm," she responded, letting us both know she didn't believe him. She settled back down and lay quietly on my chest, but I knew she was still awake and listening to what was being said.
" I will tell you when we get you home, okay, beautiful?" I asked her, hoping she understood that we didn't want to upset her but didn't want to hide things from her either.
" Lily gets to go home tomorrow as well", Jacob told her, probably trying to distract her, and I hoped it worked. I didn't want to say anything about her ex being in the hospital, let alone the pack lands.
" How is she doing?" she asked, sounding groggy again.
" She is doing great, and she misses you like crazy and can't wait to see you again", he rambled on as her breathing started to even out again.
I sighed in relief after she fell back to sleep, and I linked Jacob rather than saying it out loud again and risk waking her. " I want two warriors posted inside the room until she is released", to which he immediately agreed. " Also, get a hold of Alpha Tobias and find out what you can about this, Kyle."
" Yeah, okay." He drew it out with a sigh.
" I will get the warriors, but you go get some rest. The phone call can wait until tomorrow." he nodded. " sounds good" " he told me, rising to his feet.
As he reached the door, he turned to look at my mate before opening the door and leaving us alone once again.
I knew he longed for his own mate but would also protect mine with his life.
" Brad, Tony, come to the hospital, please, room 235". I linked two of my warriors.
" Right away, Alpha ", they linked back in unison.
While I waited for them to arrive, I stayed on guard, listening to every little noise and watching every shadow that passed by her window.
I didn't have long to wait as they showed up about fifteen minutes later and stood at the end of the bed waiting for me to say something.
I linked them again. " I don't want my mate to know yet, but her ex is here looking for her, so you will stay here to protect her until she is released", I told them, looking between them to make sure they understood what I was saying.
They linked back in unison once again. " Yes, Alpha." I sometimes thought those two should have been born twins. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if they ended up sharing a mate they were that close. Well, they did grow up together after Tony's family took Brad in after his family was killed by hunters when he was ten.
Brad went and stood by the door, and Tony stood by the window, watching for any signs of danger.
I let Rocky come forward also to protect her while I went to the back of my mind and got some rest. I was going to need it for the conversation I was going to have to have with Shiann tomorrow.
*****************
The next morning
The nurses had been in a few times through the night to check on her, but she never woke up again until the sun started to rise in the morning.
I placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head. "Good morning, beautiful," I murmured into her hair.
She turned her face up to me and smiled the most beautiful smile I had ever seen on her face. " Good morning," she said softly.
She seemed lost in thought when they brought her breakfast in at nine; she had oatmeal, a muffin, an apple, black tea, little cups of milk and a gas of orange juice.
She ate quietly while looking out the window; I smoothed her hair away from her face and looked down at her. I noticed the furrow in her brow and the slight frown on her face.
I was smoothing away the furrow on her forehead. "What's wrong? " I asked her, trying to hide the concern in my voice and hoping that she hadn't heard Jacob and me talking about her ex last night.
" Just bad dreams, that's all," She said in a way that let me know that she didn't want to talk about it then and there.
"Okay, well, when you want to tell me about them, I will be there for you ", I said, giving her a gentle hug.
A few minutes later, the doctor came in and looked her over and checked her vitals." and how are you feeling this morning ?" he asked, looking at Shiann and watching her very carefully.
"I'm feeling much better," she told him.
He nodded while he wrote something down in her chart and hummed, "Okay, well, as long as you are not left alone for the first little while, I feel confident releasing you this morning."
He then made one more note in her chart before looking back at us. " it might also be a good idea to look into counselling; I can recommend one if you don't have access to one."
He made a point of looking at me as he told me, " I have someone that she can speak to. " I assured him.
Seemingly satisfied, "Okay, I will start the discharge papers."
" Thank you, doctor " I called to him. He opened the door to leave.
He looked back, gave a short nod, and then was gone.
