The following day at school, everyone was talking about Miguel and Jennifer's date. They were either commenting, gossiping, or listening to all this bull. If you ask me, they are all a bunch of nosey idiots. Everyone was also talking about Liz and her epic scene. It dawned on me that she was always around. She was just invisible and it was obviously a personal choice. After seeing her yearbook picture, something very big must have caused her to close her self off and turn into such a loner. She didn't really seem to care about anything anymore. Camila was happy she talked to me though. She even wanted to spend the day with her. I didn't really mind because I was glad Camila was feeling better.
After school, I went to the auditorium for the musical rehearsals. Jennifer was already there but her mood was different from all the other times I had seen her. I guess that was to be expected. Miguel so a no show. Midway through Jennifer's first song, she started sobbing. I went over to her and asked her what was wrong but she didn't answer me.
"Hey, come on you can tell me," I said.
"Miguel, he won't answer my calls or texts," she blubbered out. "I mean last night was bad but I wished he just talk to me."
"Yeah, he is an i***t," I said without thinking.
"I mean-," she began to say but hesitated a bit. "I sound selfish but I thought it was our chance. I mean I really thought we could finally be."
"You don't have to blame yourself and keep punishing yourself," I said.
"But you don't understand," Jennifer said defensively.
"I do, Liz told me-," I began to say.
"Liz, you talked to Liz," she questioned. I nodded. "Liz is a liar."
"What do you mean?"
"Liz, is the reason this happened, Camila might still be aliv-," Jennifer covered her mouth with both hands before she finished that sentence. She suddenly just fell to her knees and I knelt down beside her.
"Hey, you're okay," I said.
"I'm such a bad person," she said.
"Your not," I told her. "I bet you anything, Camila wouldn't want you to be unhappy."Jennifer smiled.
"She was such a nice person," Jennifer said. "She was so kind and so talented. Even though she is younger than me, I always looked up to her. She was the reason I joined the drama club. She was so good and friendly. I wish I could have become her friend but I think she thought I didn't like her or something."
"She seemed incredible," I knew she was but I couldn't say that.
"Hey, do you want to come over and watch last year's performance. I mean I wanted to watch it to get some inspiration and pointers but I don't want to watch it alone and I have no one else I can ask," Jennifer said.
"Um, sure," I replied. Camila finally came to meet me and we headed to Jennifer's house together.
"Wow," Camila said as we arrived at Jennifer's house. "It's so pretty." I nodded in agreement. Jennifer led us to the living room and then she left to go get something from a room across the living room. She finally came back with a CD and played it. It was some rehearsal footage and some footage from the actual show. As soon as it came on, I saw her face. Her smile lit up the video. Her laughter radiated off the screen. She was filled with so much joy and happiness. Camila looked at the video with glowing eyes. Her voice was just as angelic as I have always heard it.
"She was so good, right?" hearing Jennifer talk in the past tense was weird. I heard Camila sing just this morning. She sings every day for me.
"Yeah, she is incredible," I told Jennifer. The footage of the actual show started next and it was actually a nice show. I mean all the songs were written by Camila so of course, I loved them. All of a sudden, the video stopped.
"What happened?" I asked Jennifer.
"Um, that's it," she said.
"Wait, what? What about the ending?"
"The show never got to go on, we didn't get to finish it," Jennifer said reluctantly.
"Why?"
"Well, because Camila-," suddenly we heard a loud BOOM!
"WHAT THE HELL!" Jennifer screeched. I looked over and all the books on the bookshelf on the wall fell to the floor.
"That was creepy," Jennifer said. She didn't know Camila was the one who did it so she was freaked out.
"Yeah," I helped Jennifer pick the books up and then told her I had to head home.
As we walked home, I asked Camila why she did that. She wouldn't answer me at first.
"I thought she was going to tell you," she said nervously.
"TELL ME WHAT," I said harshly. "Why is it so bad for me to find out what happened to you."
"I don't know. I just don't want to relive it and have everyone talk about it again."
"But, then you should tell me, I thought we-," I didn't even know how to say it but I thought I meant something to her. "How can you trust me to help you but not trust me to know this one detail."
"It's a big detail," she said.
"I know, I get it. That's why I want to know," I complained.
"I just can't," she said.
"You know what, fine," I muttered. "Just don't bother talking to me unless you're ready to tell me everything." I regretted the words as soon as they left my mouth. Camila didn't say anything after that. She simply walked in front of me. As soon as we got home, she walked upstairs and went into her nook. I wanted to go and apologize but I figured maybe just maybe this little ultimatum might actually work. She might actually tell me what happened or at least I hope so. I definitely know I won't be able to handle too much of this silent treatment.
