Rehearsals started this week so I would stay after school helping the drama club with making props and stuff. It was boring but I could see Camila enjoyed being around all this.
I was able to talk to Jennifer a bit more. Miguel hated seeing me talk to her but I guess that was just an added bonus for me.
"Hey, Ethan," Jennifer said.
"Hey, you did great today," I told her.
"Thanks, it feels, kind of nice to be back
"I bet, this might not suck so bad," I teased. Jennifer rolled her eyes but then let out a small laugh.
"Quit goofing around and get to work new kid," Miguel huffed as he walked past us.
"What's his deal," I said to Jennifer as if I didn't already know.
"Oh, he is just complicated and been through a lot," Jennifer was avoiding looking at me but I already knew why.
"Well, he seems like a jerk," I said.
"NO!" she shouted not realizing she had done so."Sorry. He isn't a bad guy. Really."
"If you say so," I shrugged my shoulders.
"Oh, he is so sweet and caring. He has such a sweet smile and when he talks to you it's like your listening to your favorite song and you don't want it to stop. You could replay it over and over again. You know I have had classes with him since we were twelve and I always thought he was so perfect."
"Um ok," I said sounding uninterested.
"Oh, sorry, I shouldn't have said all of that," she said as she began to blush.
"No worries, you like him," I said bluntly.
"WHAT! NO!" Jennifer shouted.
"Really, you can't hide that," I said.
"Oh no, I mean, please don't say anything to anyone," she said sounding afraid. I looked over at Camila and she was awkwardly looking at the ceiling. I rolled my eyes.
"I won't but what's the big deal," I said.
"I have had a crush on him for years and well I thought he liked me too but then he got a girl-," Jennifer hesitated. "Look, it is just some stupid crush and I'm over it so just forget I said anything." Jennifer picked up her stuff and went back to rehearsing.
"Hey," I said to Camila who was still looking at the ceiling.
"Yeah,"
"So, what did you think?" I asked her.
"Well, I told you she liked him so that's nothing new. You have to get her to ask him out," she pouted.
"Ok, and you don't care how I get it done as long as it gets done, right?"
"Um, yeah, just don't do anything stupid," she begged. I got up and looked around for Miguel. I found him helping the lighting team.
"Hey, Miguel, can I have a word with you,"
"WHAT!" he grunted.
"So, I was thinking about asking Jennifer out," I said boldly. Camila tried to slap my back and pull me away but of course, it didn't do anything.
"WHAT THE f**k DID YOU JUST SAY," he groaned.
"I said, I want to ask Jennifer out but she told me she likes you so I am hoping you can tell her your not interested and she should give me a shot," I grinned. Miguel came closer to me as if he was ready to attack me.
"You son of a bit-," Miguel quickly withdrew his words when he saw a teacher walking by.
"What, it's not like you like her back," I smiled.
"STAY AWAY FROM HER," he shouted. Sure enough, Miguel then walked over to Jennifer.
"That was stupid," Camila said.
"It worked," I winked.
"Did it?" I looked over at the two. Jennifer was fidgeting and Miguel was trying to touch her hand.
"Yeah, it did," I smiled. Camila rolled her eyes at me but I was actually proud of myself. This wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I grabbed my stuff and went to go put them in my locker so I could head home. I went home, hand and hand with Camila. She seemed happy too. I was glad. I was actually worried she would be hurt when she finally witnessed them moving on and getting closer but I hoped that my feelings would help her and keep her happy.
The next day, everyone was talking about Miguel and Jennifer. Even Marco said he heard about him asking her out. Thomas was shocked but said he was happy for the two of them but he was one of the few. Apparently, a lot of students were shocked and thinking Miguel was moving on too fast. I wish I could tell them that Camila was okay with it and she was actually making it happen for them but then I would just look crazy.
"Dude, are you going to Missy's tomorrow?" Marco asked.
"No, why would I," I said not sure as to what his reason was.
"For the big date, most of the juniors are going to see Miguel on his date," he said.
"Why? Damn, nosey bastards," I laughed.
"Well, it is strange to see him on a date and especially with her," Marco said.
"Why?" I looked over at Camila and she was spacing out again. I rolled my eyes and Marco said "Because of the rumors and what happened between the three of them."
"Can you be more specific please," I annoyingly said.
"Well, before the accident something happened but that was just a rumor started by Liz, and well who knows if she is lying or not especially after what happened between her and Camila." I once again looked over to Camila. She looked at me and I know she wanted me to stop asking questions.
"High school drama," I said pretending not to be interested.
"You have no idea," oh I knew I didn't but I would if it was the last thing I did. I need Camila to be upfront with me or else I was going to tell her something I knew she didn't want to hear. I guess I was going to go on this date after all.
