First Day Of School

1023 Words
The next day, after an exhausting night of putting my stuff together and putting all my things away. I was ready to sleep in but my mother wanted me to go to school. It was Wednesday so I was hoping to wait until next week to start but nope I had to go today. Camila was excited to go. I asked her how she was able to change her clothes because she wasn't wearing the same thing as she was wearing yesterday. She said that if she thinks really hard she can just make a new outfit appear. I told her that didn't make any sense and she just replied that I was probably going crazy and none of this was real so I shut up and went to take a shower. Camila hid in the closet the entire time I was changing. I didn't want her to look but I found it cute how she just scurried into the closet the minute I walked into my room in a towel. I had breakfast, kissed my mom and Jamie goodbye then headed out. I decided to walk since it was only a few blocks away. Camila was dancing around me as we walked to school. "Are you nervous?" Camila asked me. "I should be asking you that," I told her. She giggled and didn't say anything until we got there. "Okay, so you go to the office over there to get your schedule," she said. I walked over to where she pointed and talked to the lady at the front desk. She handed me my schedule and I headed out to my first class. Camila showed me where it was. As I walked the halls, I noticed a few of the kids at the skate park were here. I made it to my first class and the students already there were looking me up and down. I rolled my eyes and found a seat towards the back. "Not a nice guy, are you?" Camila remarked. "I can be but why should I," I said softly. "Hey, you live in that blue house on Cherry Road?" a male student asked. "Yeah, so," I said coldly. "Nothing was just asking," he said. He left and sat towards the front of the class. "Don't worry about him, he is just curious about the kid who moved into that house," another male student said. "That's Marco," Camila said. "He is nice and smart." "Well, he should mind his own business," I said to Marco. "Yeah, I guess but well it is a special house or well was," Marco looked at the ground and then tried to smile. "My name is Marco by the way." Marco sat down in the seat in front of me. "Hey, look you made a friend," Camila said. "Just because he sat next to me doesn't mean he is my friend," I whispered. Marco looked at me and I looked at the ceiling. I heard Camila laughing. Having a ghost around was not going to be easy and going to make me look insane. Marco's friends Billy and Thomas came to sit around him. They also greeted me and I was immediately annoyed. I didn't want friends but I guess if I was going to help Camila and her quest then I had to make some alliances. The teacher walked in and began to take roll call. At this point, Camila began singing. I looked at her and she was dancing, no performing like she was on a stage and no one was around. Well, I guess it didn't matter if she was in a room full of people. It was hella distracting but kind of funny and cute. She definitely was adorable. She was even singing in Spanish but I figured she was Hispanic. She was definitely dancing way over the top. I wanted to tell her to cut it out but I was enjoying the show more then I was the lecture going on in front of me. "Dude, the bell rang," Marco said. I didn't even notice a whole hour went by. I grabbed my stuff and headed to my locker. "So do you know anything about the girl who used to live in your house," Bill said coming up behind me. "Hey, he is talking about me," Camila noted. "No s**t," I said without thinking. Marco, Bill, and Thomas looked at me strangely. "No, why?" "Um, well, she died, and then her parents moved," he said. "Dude, shut up," Marco said as he hit Thomas. "So, how did she-," I felt Camila gaze intensify and she even tried to hit me. "Yeah, we are not talking about that," Marco said. "She was a very sweet and popular girl." "Marco liked her, ALOT," Bill said. "SHUT UP!" Marco shouted. "I had class with her since preschool. I wish I could have told her I liked her but she liked Miguel and well they were inseparable." "Oh, wow, I didn't know," Camila said softly. "Well, I miss her and she was really loved here so we just are concerned or well curious to know someone moved into her house," Marco said. His eyes revealed all the sorrow he had. I didn't know what to say to console him and I didn't even know if I should. "Yeah she was really cool," Bill added. "She was friends and nice to pretty much everyone." After a few more exchanges they left so I headed to my next class. I noticed Camila's mood changed. I guess she hadn't heard things like this before and didn't know how much she was missed. It must also suck to lurk around school knowing you were missing out. The rest of the day was just as somber. Camila didn't dance or sing. During lunch, I sat alone but then Marco and his friends came over to sit with me. We noticed Miguel coming into the cafeteria and Camila's eyes immediately looked at him. "Yeah, that's Miguel," Marco said. "Handsome isn't he?" I guess he noticed me staring at him. "Heartbreaker that will rob your soul, your heart, but also your sight."
