Chapter 6

I had done a lot of crazy and weird things in my lifetime even before I awoke my werewolf abilities. Sneaking into a boy's room at the early hours of the morning was not one of them. So I had no idea why I sneaked into Jack's room in the morning and watched him sleep. It was even weirder that he was able to sleep through the noise of me getting through his window. I was watching him sleep and having a laugh in my head when he turned and groggily opened his eyes to meet my gaze. I expected some kind of surprised outburst from him. To my surprise, Jack turned to the other side and mumbled something incoherent before resuming his sleep. Then it clicked. Jack jolted and turned around again, his eyes flying open and gazing at me in shock to be sure I was not a mirage. Sure enough, I was there. I sat Indian style on his bed few inches away from him with a blank look on my face. "What the...." Jack flew out of his bed to the far end of his room, clutching his chest in fright. His pet dog who I saw earlier, waddled towards him, wagging her tail. "Wow. And a good morning to you, too." I casually waved and smirked. "What are you doing in my room?" Jack nearly screamed. "Wait a minute, how did you even get here?" "Which one of the questions should I answer?" I put a finger under my chin in mock thought. "Both?" Jack raised an eyebrow. I groaned and laid back in his bed in dramatic fashion. Jack stared at his dog in confusion. The German Shepherd just stared back and wagged it's tail even harder than before. "How I got to your room?" I said, drawing Jack's attention back to the bed. "I used the window." I tilted my head towards his open window by the left. Jack facepalmed. I'm sure he was inwardly reminding himself to lock his windows from that moment forward. "As for what I'm doing here." I stood up from the bed and walked towards his desk. "I'm just here to make sure you didn't freak out from what happened yesterday and you're not planning on telling anyone else." "Nice underwear, by the way." I smirked as my eyes drifted towards a pair of boxers on the edge of the desk with a Batman logo across the back. Red faced in embarrassment, Jack squickly dashed towards the underwear, picked it and tossed it into the closet. "I did freak out a bit." He turned to me, his face back to the normal colour. "It's a normal reaction. It's not everyday you meet a werewolf, particularly after you believe that they are myths and also part of pop culture. But I'm not going to tell anyone else. I give you my word on that. When I make a decision, I stand by it." "I thought as much." I smiled. "She told me so." "She?" Jack raised his brows. I tilted my head towards his German Shepherd. Jack stared at the German Shepherd and then back to me. "You talked to my dog?" His eyes were wide in disbelief. "Yup." I smiled towards the dog who had now approached me. I giggled as I patted it's head. "I don't get it." Jack scratched his head. " You are a wolf..." "Werewolf." I corrected with a huff. "Right, Werewolf." Jack slowly nodded. " And Shiela is a German Shepherd dog. How does this correlate?" "Well, I know you're intelligent to know that dogs and wolves are closely related," I said. "Only a brick won't know that." Jack deadpanned. "So we werewolves also have the ability to communicate telepathically with the dog family. Dogs, jackals, foxes and even regular timberwolves." I explained further. Jack stared at Shiela who had now sat and was enjoying my touch. He shook his head in amazement. "That's really... something," he said. " So what else did my dog tell you, prior to me waking up?" At that moment, Shiela let out a small bark and shifted her gaze towards Jack and then back to me. "She says it's girl's talk." I laughed, rubbing the underside of Sheila's muzzle. "Even dogs now have girl talk?" Jack blinked. "Jack?" I suddenly heard a feminine voice call and soon it was followed by the sound of approaching footsteps. "That's my mum!" Jack whispered towards me. His frightened blue eyes sent a clear message. I quickly nodded and removed her hand from Sheila's head. "See you around," I said and quickly dashed towards the window. Without missing a step, I jumped out. ###### Cedric stepped out of the Principal's office to meet Jack and I standing in wait. "What's up?" he casually greeted. "What's up?" Jack repeated. " You had us worried, man." "I just saw the big lunk storm over with a tint on his glass jaw." I jutted my thumb to the direction of the other end of the hallway. "I heard you roughed him up." I was a bit angry that I managed to somehow miss the fight. After leaving Jack's house, I managed to make it to school early, but late enough to miss a fight that had occurred between Liam and Cedric. I didn't get much details from the students around, except that the cause of the fight stemmed from captaincy of the football team. From what I heard, Cedric had beaten up Liam to nearly a pulp after the former confronted him in the hallway and instigated a fight. A couple of days ago, I would have placed my bet on Liam winning because, to be fair, he bullied Cedric and Jack since middle school as told by Cedric. But now that Cedric had awoken his werewolf abilities, any jock who wanted to pick a fight with him would be signing a death wish. Then again, Liam was not known to be the brightest bulb in the room. Typical of a jock, he was all brawn and no brains. Unfortunately, Cedric didn’t have time to gloat as their fight attracted the attention of our principal, Arnold. He had called the two boys to the office moments before I arrived. Jack showed up minutes later and we had waited by the door until this moment. Again, it sucked that I missed the fight. "Nothing serious, really." Cedric rubbed his folded fingers against his hoodie and calmly examined his fingernails. "It was just a little tap." "A tap that sends a guy almost two times your size to the floor?" I raised my eyebrows. "It wasn't that much of a big deal." Cedric rolled his eyes. "Besides, it's not like he didn't have it coming. He's been begging for it for ages." 'Deja vu.' I sighed inwardly as I remembered what happened in my old high school. And now I was seeing it all over again. Except this time, it was someone else in my place. Funny how my parents moved me away from town for one reason only to dump me right into another similar scenario. "This is what I was talking about yesterday, Cedric." I stared at the blonde. "I know that red haired oaf can be a pain in the neck, but you were lucky he wasn't dead from your hit." 'Great. Now I sound like mum.' I mentally groaned. 'Isn't that a good thing?' My wolf spoke for the first time that day. 'Shut it,' I snapped. "Chill, Tori." Cedric folded his arms. "I got this. Besides, there's no harm done." "And what did the principal say?" Jack asked. Cedric shrugged casually. "We're off the hook. No suspension. No punishment." Jack and I exchanged confused glances, then stared at Cedric. "No punishment?" I said. "No suspension?" Jack added. "Okay, you guys seriously need to chill out." Cedric laughed and walked over to us. He stood in our middle and slung an arm over each of our shoulders. "Come on." He urged. As the we took a turn to he left of the hallway, we ran into Amy. It was weird not to see the blonde b***h without her cheerleading entourage. She waved at Cedric who nodded curtly. That was it. No words spoken and we passed her. I turned around momentarily and saw her heated glare directed at us. Particularly towards me. I held back a laugh and turned my attention forward. I had bigger things to worry about and a blonde bimbo trying to force a rivalry was the last thing I needed. I had already be been expelled before. Normally, it was three strikes and one was out. I wasn't eager for strike two.
