Chapter 1- Feast fit for a God
Lycaon’s POV “Welcome to Arcadia, omnipotent Zeus.” Lycaon bows his head, his left hand extended towards Zeus, while his right hand lays over his heart. “You humble us with your presence in our Kingdom.” He rises from his bow, leading Zeus over to the table set for two, with a feast spread out down the table. Bowls filled with fruits litter the table, their sweet smells filling the air as they made their way closer to the table. A bowl filled to the brim with grapes suddenly appears before Zeus from a servant, her head bowed low in respect. Lycaon watches as Zeus’ gaze follow the beautiful servant as she makes her way out of the large dining hall, just as he had planned. It is widely known that Zeus is a philanderer and that he enters into casual s****l relationships with numerous women throughout the Realms. Lycaon was counting on Zeus finding Lilliana attractive and being distracted by her presence in order to move forward with his plan to prove that Zeus is not as all-seeing as he claims to be. Just then the Head Chef pokes his head into the room, seeking out Lycaon’s eyes. Lycaon nods his head to confirm that they should move forward with their plan and the Head Chef disappears down the corridor without being noticed by Zeus who is still focused on the beautiful servant that has re-entered the dining hall. “You have out done yourself Lycaon.” Zeus proclaims loudly, his eyes focused on the servant fluttering her lashes and blushing preetily. “I see a lot of delectable treats layed out before me.” He continues, winking at the servant, receiving a giggle from her plump lips. “Only the best for the mighty Zeus.” Lycaon replies proudly, his chest puffed out as his eyes wander around the dining hall. Lycaon’s family founded Arcadia, but it was King Lycaon himself that has gotten the renowned city to where it is today. Arcadia prospers despite the many hardships thrown in their paths thanks to the Gods and Goddesses that do nothing to help the mere mortals succeed. Though Arcadia is known as a city that worships Zeus, Lycaon believed that mortals gave too much reverence and credit to the Gods and Goddesses that do so little for them. So, one drunken night he hatched a plan with his Royal Advisor to prove to Zeus and his people that the Gods are not above men. Tonight, when the mighty Zeus bites into the roasted meat that will be served to him, he will in fact be eating mortal flesh. Tricked by a man into believing it to be roasted pig. A fitting feast for a being that believes that mortals are beneath him. A being that takes what he wants without any regard for the men he steps on along the way. It is about time that Zeus paid for what he did to my beloved. Just then, the Head Chef comes walking into the room, pushing a rolling cart with a tray and cover on top. The sound of the wheels squeaking as it rolls over the uneven stone floors of the dining hall echoes around, drawing everyone's attention to the arrival of the main course. The Head Chef stops the cart when he reaches the left side of Zeus. He moves into a low bow, his right hand moving to cover his heart in a tight fist. He turns and quickly walks away when Zeus raises his hand in a sweeping motion. Two servant women come walking over in hurried footsteps, catching Zeus’ attention once more. One of the servants, a blonde with delicate features, known for her beauty across the land, grabs ahold of the lid and pulls it away quickly to reveal the roasted meat beneath. The steam rises up from the tray, releasing a delicious smell into the dining hall. Zeus barely glances down at the tray, his eyes fixed on the blonde servant as she begins to cut into the delicious smelling meat. Zeus reaches over, wrapping his finger around one of the servants' loose curls, giving it a light tug. “Who is this delightful creature Lycaon?” He asks, his eyes not sparing me a glance. Lycaon chuckles to himself at how easily it has been to keep Zeus distracted, before he smooths out his features and gets himself back under control. “She is the number one girl within my Harem and the mother to two of my children.” Zeus’ eyes flash to mine for a moment before returning back to Cressida. “You have fine taste Lycaon.” Zeus murmurs, reaching over to pull Cressida to sit on his lap at the table. “Fine taste indeed.” Zeus was so focused on Cressida’s giggling form sitting on his lap that he did not catch the tick that formed in Lycaon’s eye or the grim expression that appeared on his face. Pulling himself together, Lycaon smiles broadly at Zeus, rising from his seat. Lycaon moves over to the cart on the other side of Zeus and begins to cut him off a large piece of meat. After setting it on Lycaon’s plate, he returns back to his seat, not taking any of the meat for himself. “Not having any of the delicious smelling meat your chef has prepared Lycaon?” Zeus asks, his eyes never leaving Cressida’s face. Lycaon stiffens in his seat, anxiety moving through his body at the thought of being caught. Coming up with an excuse quickly, Lycaon relaxes in his seat and smiles. “Cyllene has insisted that I cut meat out of my diet.” Lycaon shrugs his shoulders. “You know how wives can be.” Zeus stares at Lycaon suspiciously for a moment before a rumble of laughter moves up through his chest. “That I do.” He says merrily, returning to his fondling of Cressida in his lap. “Though I am sure that the reason you are not eating any of this delicious smelling meat is because it is your poor son Nyctimus.” Lycaon’s face pales at Zeus’ announcement. Zeus continues nuzzling Cressida’s neck as if he did not just accuse Lycaon of cooking and serving his own son. The whispers of servants in the hall begin to float around Lycaon, spiking his anxiety. The sound of thunder clapping echoes around the room loudly, startling Lycaon out of his seat. Lightning flashes above him, landing on the stone floor a few feet away from where he stands. Zeus shoves Cressida from his lap as he rises from his seat at the head of the table, his electrified eyes meeting Lycaon’s. “You should not have done that Lycaon.” Zeus says, an evil smile spreading across his angelic face. Electricity bursts from Zeus’ fingertips, slamming into Lycaon in the chest, sending him flying across the room. Darkness engulfs Lycaon. The following morning. Lycaon wakes up, running his fingers down his face in confusion. He thought for sure that Zeus would have killed him last night, but he was pretty sure that this was not the afterlife. Lycaon opened up one eye experimentally before opening the other one and looking around him. Lycaon’s eyes widened in shock as his gaze roamed over the mountains of dead bodies and blood laying around the once prestine dining hall. Rising from his spot in the middle of the blood and gore, he looks around at the discarded limbs of people scattered around the room. Electricity sizzles in the air a moment before Zeus appears beside Lycaon, a pleased smile on his face. Lycaon looks to him for answers, confusion written on his face. “What happened here?” He asked. Zeus smirks down at Lycaon. “You killed them all.” Lycaon’s eyes widened once more, his gaze returning to the familiar bodies laying about. “You have now killed all of your sons Lycaon.” An agonizing howl escapes Lycaon’s lips. He falls to his knees, placing his face in his hands as he weeps for the loss of his many sons. The sound of approaching footsteps draws Lycaon’s attention out of his grief and towards the entrance to the dining hall. His eyes meet the small body of his son Nyctimus, back from the grave and staring at him. “Well, not all of your sons are dead.” Zeus says cheerfully. “I did bring back the son you tried to feed to me.” Zeus smiles brightly as he looks over at Nyctimus. “But I am sorry to tell you that your only remaining son hates you so.” Zeus reaches down, grabbing Lycaon by the arm and lifts his naked form up to look him in the eye. “Maybe next time you will think twice before you mess with a God.”, he says, throwing Lycaon back on the blood covered floor. Zeus pauses as he moves to exit the room. “On second thought.”, he says, tapping his chin. “Your sons will come back to life as well, cursed to walk the Earth as a wolf like you until Nyctimus ends their life.” He nods his head in satisfaction, leaving Lycaon to his despair.
