Nanny Leonila cannot contain her anxiousness about Princess Alexandria’s welfare. She called
“Can you come?”
“Why Nanny Leonila?”
“Her father’s health has deteriorated a lot and he is dying.”
“I will come Nanny Leonila.”
“But it’s too late already.”
“It doesn’t matter Nanny Leonila, I will come for her.”
Then after some thirty minutes, Avalon came. As Princess Alexandria saw him, she ran to him and embraced him while she sobs.
“Father is dying.”
“Don’t cry now. He must be in too much pain.”
“But I will miss him.”
Avalon held her face with his forefinger and his tall finger.
“Princess, it would be too much of us if we still let him suffer. I know you will miss him so much, but if he is in too much pain, it would be selfish to ask him to stay.”
Avalon just embraces the Princess tighter.
“Just let your pain out.”
Then after an hour or two that the Princess has been asleep.
“Nanny Leonila is she asleep already?”
“Yes, Avalon. Thank you so much for commercial ng and helping me pacify her. She loves her father so much and her father loves her too much too. I am not sure what to do if her father leaves.”
“I will try Nanny Leonila. I will try.”
And Nanny Leonila’s eyes swelled with tears.
“Nanny Leonila, can I go now? I will just come back tomorrow?”
“Yes, of course, Avalon. Thank you so much.”
And Avalon gave respect to the Queen and bade goodbye to the Queen. And he went home.
After three hours when Avalon went home. The Queen called Nanny Leonila.
“Call Princess Alexandria at once!”
And Nanny Leonila toute de suite to awaken Princess Alexandria.
“Princess! Princess! Your mother, Queen Anastasia is asking for you at once.”
“Why Nanny Alexandria, what happened?”
When Princess Alexandria came nearer to her father’s room everyone was crying and sobbing. As she entered her father’s room, the Queen, her mother is embracing her father and she was quietly crying.
“Rest now, my love. We will see each other again.”
And Alexandria stopped and looked at her mother. She saw her mom full of tears. It was a moment that she felt her strength was gone and her knees wobbled. She came near her father’s bed.
“He’s gone. Your father left us.”
And Princess Alexandria’s knees wobbled and she fell on the floor while she sobbed.
“Father, I will miss you so much.”
And she cried on the floor while she slowly crawled towards her father. Nanny Leonila helped her stand up and assisted her towards her father’s bed. Everybody cried. The Queen tried to regain her strength as she is to reign as the head of her land.
Princess Alexandria, on the other hand, cannot comprehend what is happening and she kept on crying. There are times she would stop and pause, but her tears would run down her cheeks.
Nanny Leonila is so concerned about Princess Alexandria because she has taken care of her since she was born. And what she sees at her now is hurting her. She needed to rest and be at peace. The stress and sadness in her are getting too much.
Nanny Leonila obviated to call Avalon because it was already two in the middle of the night. But she wasn’t able to avoid it so she called Avalon and told him what happened. He was sleeping when he answered and Nanny Leonila felt his voice very tired.
“Avalon?”
“Yes, Nanny Leonila. Why did you call?”
“Can you come early in the morning tomorrow?”
“Sure, is there something wrong?”
“Her father is gone and she keeps on crying since.”
“Should I come now?”
“But you have work tomorrow.”
“I can excuse myself from work so I can be with Alexandria.”
“Okay, it’s up to you. I can ask the chambermaid to prepare a room for you.”
“Thank you so much Nanny Leonila. I will just grab some of my needs and proceed there.”
“Thank you so much.”
And after some time Avalon came to the castle and looked for the Princess. She was in her room with Nanny Leonila.
“Nanny Leonila?”
“She is now asleep. Would you like to rest in the room prepared for you?”
“How is she?”
“She has just fallen asleep. Let her take her rest now.”
“Since she is better and resting, can I go home and just come back early?”
“You will travel again?”
“It’s okay Nanny Leonila. I will just buy her flowers and food tomorrow.”
“Okay, you take care Avalon, and thank you.”
Avalon knew that he can not go to sleep smelling the sweet scent of the Princess being nearby. He might crave for her and his identity might be revealed. He has to shun away as much as possible although he wanted to be near her. And he went home.
In the morning, he went to the castle with flowers and some bread for the Queen and the Princess. The Queen has no appetite and so is the Princess but they tried to eat a little.
The Queen was given a lot of commiseration letters and calls and their relatives came. Although they knew the King has been sick for some time, it still came as a shock to them that he already passed away.
While the King’s remains are better ng prepared for the viewing. Avalon stayed with Princess Alexandria on their porch. Avalon sat quietly beside her.
“You know we used to play here. He would run after me. He was a King but he was the sweetest father there is.”
Avalon took Princess Alexandria’s hand and held it to pacify her.
