10 - Is she my MATE?

DAVID POV 

It has been a week since I returned a week spending the nights sat in hospital next to Elle, Doctor Henry had informed me of Elle's injuries and asked if I knew who did this to her, I had to lie of course. Being the future Gamma meant I had to protect Zane and everything he does right or wrong, I had been sworn to it by his father who is worse, much worse than Zane though that may change in a few years. I sigh deeply wondering how life got so messed up, I hate men who hurt women especially when they are using their power against someone much weaker than them and Zane! He is going to be the next Alpha and this is how he treats his pack members? Then again he will not see her as a pack member to his she is just his human slave. I have this overwhelming urge to protect her, to hide her and keep her safe, I wonder if I feel like this because she is my mate? I wont find out until I turn 18. I look over at Elle and admire her beauty and cannot help the thoughts that invade my mind. If she is my mate would I even be able to accept her? 'OF COURSE WE WILL' my wolf booms in my mind making me wince. Of course I would never reject my mate but no doubt Zane and Uncle Zak would have something to say if the human slave girl turns out to be my mate, for now I just need to keep her safe and protected. I look out the window seeing the sky getting lighter I pull out my phone to check the time '4:37am'. I stand up from the chair and kiss Elle on the forehead like I always do when I leave her and then walk out the room to go to the training grounds. On the way I text my father with an update as he will go by before lunch to check on her too, though there is nothing new to update him on so I simply text 'Still stable, nothing new to update'.

ELLE POV 

I remember. I remember everything he did to me in the cells. the punches the kicks the screaming and shouting the rage in his eyes the pure terror and fear running through my veins as he beat me, the pain al over my body and the endless cries for help that went unheard or ignored. The beeping in the distance was no longer a slow and steady beat, it was now a rapid annoying alarm I struggled to take in the air I so desperately needed. I heard shouting and a door open before I felt someone touch my arm I jumped in surprise but squeezed my eyes closed even more I didn't want to be face to face with him again. "Honey I need you to listen to my voice okay, you are safe now, take slow deep breaths" it was the woman's voice that I heard when I was in the darkness but this is just a trick right? He is going to be here somewhere there is no way he would let me live and survive after what he did to me, I started to panic more at the thought of him being there but it wasn't long before a mask was placed on my face providing me with the much needed oxygen and the beeping slowed down with my heartbeat, my eyes heavy before I drifted off to sleep. 

DAVID POV 

Training was just finishing up and the warriors were getting ready to go for their breakfast when Zane, my father and I all received a message from the Doc 'Elle has woken up and had a severe panic attack she wouldn't open her eyes, she is back on oxygen and she is resting due to the sedative I have used  to calm her down. She will be awake in the next 2-3 hours however, I request that there only be one person at a time in her room and no-one is to be in there except myself when she does wake up. Doctor Henry' I looked at my father worried about Elle and her mentality after what Zane did I don't know how or if she will ever get passed this. my father spoke up first " Well I believe since Zane caused the trouble he shouldn't be anywhere near her at the moment and I have lots of work to do so David you will have to go" I was watching Zane who was staring at his phone up until my father put the blame on him and I could see the rage burning in his eyes "Watch your tounge Unc, that b***h deserved everything she got at least now she will know not to step out of line" Zane spat back "Of course Zane, you got her put in her place I have no doubt she will do as she is told now, but she is terrified I would be surprised if she doesn't freeze with fear when you are around" my father said before he left. Zane looked at me with pure hatred "You heard him, your the one to deal with her, go ahead and make sure that b***h doesn't talk" I gave him a slight nod and "Yes Alpha" before walking away and towards my Elle. When I reached the hospital Doctor Henry pulled me into her office "It was him wasn't it or one of them, I wont say anything David but I need to know what happened so I can help her was it Alpha Zak or Zane who beat her half to death?" Doc asked. I sighed deeply before I replied "Doc you will die if anyone finds out you know what happened, hell I will die if they find out I told you and then Elle will have no-one to protect her anymore" "Just tell me dammit! That poor girl will have to have medical care while she is in this pack more so because she is human so tell me what has happened and I will make sure it stays with me and be her only doctor." Doc shouted. "It was Zane, Stacey was causing problems with Elle and made a scene made it look like Elle was being jealous and aggressive towards her, so the Alpha grabbed her arm and took her to the dungeons that's probably how she got the dislocated elbow and broken wrist. He was going to leave her there for the weekend in the dark no food just one bottle of water a day but Zane went to see Stacey and she was upset because all of her dresses were cut up and trashed she said it was Elle which everyone believed because Elle had access to all the rooms to collect the laundry, so Uncle Zak gave Zane the go ahead to 'deal' with her. Non of us knew the real extent of what he had done until I used the security cameras when he went to visit her a second time, but that time he just moved her onto a blanket, then Stacey went in and took the blanket away. I then installed a camera in her room too so I can keep an eye on her while I was away for the week, however, when I came back she was still in the cell and no-one had checked on her or got her medical attention so I convinced them if we got her here she would get back to work quicker it was the only way I could get them to let her get medical attention." I told her everything by the end tears were streaming down both our faces "How did she end up here?" the Doc asked "We don't know anything about her past all we know is 8 weeks ago she turned up at the Auction house unconscious she woke up after a week not knowing anything about herself or her life we don't even know how long he was unconscious for apparently there was no visible injuries but there were marks on her arms as if she has previously had injections. Alpha Zak then went to the auction, bought her and she came her the next day." I told the Doc everything I knew I wanted the best care for Elle. "Okay, well I will have to do more tests when she wakes up I need to know what has caused the memory loss and I also don't know how well she will cope being back in the pack house especially being around Zane" Doc explained "I know that's why I am here, I am afraid of what they will do if she refuses to go back or doesn't do as she is told" I opened up to the Doc "I think she might be my mate.. I mean how would I know? Dad always said growing up with Mum he always felt like he had to protect her, keep her safe and cherish her they grew up as best friends before they found out they were mates. I feel protective of Elle too and I think she is the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. Does this mean she could be my mate?" I asked the Doc surely if anyone knows its Doc right? "I am not sure David, it's possible but sometimes we love people who aren't our mates. We are wolves we are supposed to protect humans, maybe she is your mate but maybe your just her protector, or friend. you won't know until your 18. In all honesty I hope she isn't because it will cause more problems for the two of you and there is no where for either of you to go and Alpha Zak and Zane will not let you be with her, I honestly hope you find your mate and can be happy. But we will find out soon and I am always here if you need to talk" the Doc replied I understood what she said she didn't want to give me false hope but also confirmed that it is possible. With all of that addressed the Doc and I left her office and headed back to Elle.

ELLE POV

I opened my eyes to the bright lights and quickly shut them again, I turned my head to the side and slowly peeled my eyes open again slowly getting used to the light, I was in a small room with cream walls, a red leather chair sat empty on my left and the right had monitors that were attached to me with wires and tubes, in front of me was a small window where I could see the branch of a tree that a bird occupied with her nest. My arm and leg were in a cast, my lungs burned and chest hurt, my face was numb and my throat was extremely dry. I had been awake for around 5 minutes just taking in my surroundings they were so different from the cells, the peace and quiet was disturbed by the door opening I jumped and could feel the lump in my throat burning already, my heart picked up speed and I knew I was fighting a loosing battle again but it wasn't him who entered it was a woman. "Hey Elle, Focus on me okay, your safe here it is just me and you, I want you to take deep breaths okay try to relax" she said so softly it helped to calm my nerves "That's good, I am just going to check your vitals and then we can talk about things okay?" I gave her a slight nod before I saw the water on the table I tried to reach for it but it made my ribs hurt and in return a strangled cry came out of my mouth although muffled by the oxygen mask the Doctor still heard and looked at what I was going for, she filled up a cup with water and added a straw before removing my oxygen mask. After slowly sipping all the water I managed to get a "Thankyou" out of my still very sore and dry throat. "You are welcome Honey, You may feel discomfort in your throat for a little longer but by tomorrow it should be okay as long as you keep drinking water, your vitals all look good so we can start our little chat if you are ready?" I wasn't sure I was ready for what was coming next but I felt safe enough to trust her so I whispered out a small "yes" she took a seat on the bed next to be and held my hand before she started. "I know what happened and I was here when you woke for the first time, I don't want to make things difficult but I do need to know what you remember first okay? You must remember while you are here with me you are safe" I nodded at her before I spoke "I was took to the cell it was really dark and wet and cold, I was in there for a while before h-he came and h-he was s-so a-angry, I don't understand what I had done, h-his e-eyes ..black.. rage" I could not only get out a few words the lump in my throat was so big. "SHH it's okay Elle, It's good you remember at least medically it is, I just have a couple more questions, Do you remember anything before being here?" she asked I told her about Mrs Garth but I don't remember anything before that. She then asked if I would be comfortable with a visitor I told her I wasn't sure she promised she would stay with me but would take me for the tests first, she explained the tests I would be getting and what they are for before we left the room together, the hallway was clear there were no other doctors or nurses or patients. "I figured you would like some space for a little longer" she told me I nodded gratefully in response.
