8 - The Scent

1294 Words
HUNTER POV The next morning Elliot and I are in the hall with our breakfast when Zane enters and walks straight over to our table. "Good Morning Alpha Hunter, Beta Elliot" Zane practically squeals "Morning" I reply shortly, I still haven't found the source of the scent I caught yesterday that was all over Zane but I haven't caught it once this morning either, it's just gone. "So, how did you do it?" Zane asks, I stop eating and look him dead in the eyes before asking "How did I do what exactly?" Zane smirks and replies "Well I will be the only other Alpha to get full control at 18, so how did you do it, your somewhat successful" Elliot jumps in before I can utter a word "What exactly do you mean 'somewhat' successful? I believe my Alpha took over his pack at 18 and the family businesses too, we are 2nd in the world. I believe somewhat successful is a bit of an understatement" he spits at Zane with a hint of humor in his voice. "I was talking to Hunter not you Beta you will speak to me with the respect an Alpha deserves" Zane spat back, I took this as my cue to step in "Firstly, it is Alpha Hunter. Secondly, you are not yet Alpha and therefore you will address my beta with the same respect you want back. Thirdly, do not question my success your still just a boy. Finally, when I arrived yesterday I caught a scent ... I could also smell it on you ... is there anything you are hiding?" I questioned Zane about the scent as my wolf would not let up that it was the scent of my mate, I hoped it wasn't because I couldn't imagine my mate with this boy. "What scent was it?" Zane asked a hint of worry in his eyes and longing. "I am not entirely sure ... Never mind, I didn't sleep well" I whispered. "Look, enjoy the time you have really take your time to learn everything you need to know, spend time with your friends and mate when you find her. When you become Alpha you care for everyone not just yourself" I told him before I stood up "What about your mate?" Zane quickly asked, I sighed before replying "I haven't found her yet, Good Luck Alpha Zane" I replied, as much as I wasn't keen on the boy he was still just a boy with a lot to learn in a year if he plans on taking over on his 18th birthday, I still wish I didn't take over when I did, I wanted more time, but we are never sure how much time we really have. I left the hall and the pack-house with Elliot by my side, just as we got to the car I heard my name being shouted from the house I turned around to see Alpha Zak stood there "Alpha Zak it was a pleasure to be here and meet your son I do wish him the best in the future" I told him. "Now, now Alpha Hunter I know how hard he has worked he is ready for this and I will still be around for him shall he need it. Speaking of which I was hoping we would see you again next year for his Alpha ceremony?" he asked. "I will put it in the diary, goodbye Alpha Zak" I replied with a nod. I didn't get the best vibes from these two but maybe it's just because I am so unsettled right now. Just as I was getting in the car I caught the scent again, it lasted a little longer and there was the bitter scent of blood mixed in it, I quickly looked around sniffing the air trying to catch the scent again but it was gone. "Everything okay Alpha?" Elliot asked "Yes, No, I am really not sure" I replied getting in the car and putting my head in my hands, ready for another 9 hour journey home for another year. STACEY POV  The party for Zane was great so was the afterparty in his room last night but he barely paid me much attention, he danced with me for half an hour and then after the party he spent most of it talking about Elle. I don't want to hear about that ugly b***h, so I turned on the tears and eventually got the attention off him I was wanting. However, this morning when I saw the Alpha that everyone has been talking about  I completely forgot everything, Alpha Hunter was the sexiest man I have ever seen and he didn't even notice me. But he picked up on Elle and she is in a cell, I figured I would pay her a visit to find out who she is and why he would notice her scent on Zane when she is just a human. Once Alpha Hunter left the pack-house and Alpha Zak followed I slipped through the door that led to the dungeons, once inside I took the keys and unlocked her cell. She was laid on a sheet in the corner of the cell, still alive and breathing, badly beaten and unconscious. I walked over to her and picked up her head by her hair, she didn't smell any different to humans, there was no trace of a wolf or magic so she wasn't a witch and she didn't smell dead like vampires do. I flung her head back on to the concrete before ripping the sheet from under her body, she doesn't deserve it. She came here thinking she could have it all she was deeply mistaken. I walked out of the cell leaving her face first in a puddle of water, blood and urine, I locked the door and headed to my room for a fresh shower to clean myself from the dirt that lingers in the dungeons.  DAVID POV All my life I had sat by and watched my Uncle and my cousin take what they wanted, do what they wanted without a care in the world. My father Trent is Alpha Zak's younger brother, not that Uncle Zak cares of course. Even though we are the Gammas we are just the clean up crew. I silently watched everyone around me never being noticed and yet always noticing everything. I had seen Zane sneak into Elle's room when she wasn't there and I had overheard Stacey telling her friends at school that Elle was pathetic trying to steal Zane from her, which instantly turned the bimbos against Elle. All the trouble Elle has been in because Stacey is jealous and feels threatened. I saw what Zane had done to Elle in the cells and I saw Stacey sneak into the cells this morning too. Since me and my father are in charge of the rouges and clean up its easy to get into places without being questioned, and being an IT freak its easy for me to have eyes everywhere so I decided to keep eyes on Elle watch her and try to keep her out of trouble, whilst everyone was busy I put a camera in her room facing the stairs so the only blindspot was the bathroom I wanted to make sure she had her privacy, there was just something about her that I needed to protect. Once the camera was set up and working I took my Ipad and loaded up the camera feed from the cells she was still laid in the same position she was left in after Stacey's attack this morning. Knowing she was being left alone I went to find my father to check on the rouges.
