I had to be hearing things. There was no way that I just heard Amber’s dad say that mine was going to be the Alpha. Suddenly I remembered my dad’s warning about keeping my emotions in check. He knew. He knew exactly why this meeting was called and decided to surprise me. Well f**k him and the horse he rode in on. I thought to myself. “Jamar? Did you hear what the Alpha said?” My mom was addressing me. “I’m sorry I was distracted by all this good food you have had prepared for us.” Everyone laughed and my hide was saved. “I was a young man with a large appetite too.” Amber’s dad joked. “What I was saying is that when your dad is ready to pass on the title, you will be this pack’s next Alpha. Once you find your mate, she will become the Luna and y’all will lead our pack together.” I didn’t want to tell Alpha Azerin that his daughter was my mate in front of everyone.

He was always so serious. Is that what I would have to be like? All work and no play? “Alpha, I believe that JD has already found his mate.” What? It was Aliana’s dad. I had met her dad at Ali’s summer bash and he had told me I chose well. It was evident that he loved his daughter, but painfully clear that he wasn’t as present and active as he presented himself to be. “Is that so? Congratulations! Who is the young queen?” Everyone looked at me expectantly. What do I do? I didn’t want to embarrass Aliana, but I wasn’t going to claim her as my mate. Before I could speak, Amber’s mom interjected. “We should eat first and discuss business potential later.” I looked at her and thanked her silently for getting me out of that conversation. “See? You have validated every concern Jairo and I had. Did you know that your daughter and his son were dating?”

“Azerin! Not now. There are children here.” The Luna said almost pleading. Aliana and I looked at each other. I couldn’t help but feel disgusted by her. I didn’t know how I continued to stick my d**k in her for well over 2 years. “Your daughter has found her mate and you didn’t even know Jared. That’s not the kind of man I want in this pack.” My dad quietly said. This pissed me off, but I remained silent. I felt like my dad was being hypocritical. He had been gone for 2 years and barely returned a week ago. How could he even talk? I doubt he knew anything about me or what I had been through while he was gone. “That’s rich coming from you Jairo” Aliana said. Wtf? “Not only did you abandon this pack, but you left your wife and your child. What makes you think you can speak on the kind of man my dad is?” Aliana was being disrespectful in her delivery, but she wasn’t wrong. “If you’re going to talk about hypocrisy then let’s talk about how you met your mate Aliana.”

Everyone looked at Amber. “I’m not going to sit here and tolerate disrespect in my father’s house. From anyone. If you have a problem with how my dad chooses to run this pack and who leads it then y’all can just leave now.” Wow. Now I was impressed. Amber didn’t hold back. She would make a great Luna by my side someday. Ali’s dad looked at her mom and they both stood up. “Alpha we humbly apologize for the disrespect shown here tonight. I accept the job offer and will schedule a follow up meeting to discuss job expectations and compensation.” By this time Aliana had stood to join her parents. “Thank you for the dinner. My family and I will be going home now.” The three of them then proceeded to walk out of the dining room and towards the door. I wanted to leave as well. I was pissed.

I wanted to know what Amber meant. How did Aliana meet Terrance? What was she implying? “Dissension will not be tolerated in this pack. I have worked too hard and I will not see it shatter into pieces.” Amber’s dad looked angry. I could almost see it rolling off of him. I was glad he wasn’t my father. “Emir I will need to meet with you to discuss a new ambassador to our pack. Your language skills are invaluable to me.” Sayed’s dad solemnly nodded as we continued dinner in an awkward silence. “Alyssa you and I will work together to support the transition of the new Luna Idara.” Amber’s mom spoke as she made eye contact with Sayed’s mom. “Mommy I’m tired. Are we allowed to go home yet?” Brielle whined. I loved her. She was the princess of her family and it showed. We all giggled as Sayed’s mom struggled to put the 6 year old in her lap. “Your family may be excused Emir. Thank you for coming.” Amber’s dad stood up as he shook his hand. “Jairo it brings me great joy to have you back. We weren’t complete without you man. I’m afraid Azerin has a new best friend now though.”

Sayed’s dad said as he embraced my dad in a hug. “Nah man. It’s the trinity again. Us 3 thick as thieves.” My dad smiled and said. My dad. Amber’s dad. Sayed’s dad. The trinity? I never knew that my dad was best friends with the Alpha and Beta. As they were talking, Sayed found his way around the table to me. “Yo bro! That was crazy. I thought it was about to go down up in here.” Tell me about it. “Aliana probably got bigger balls than me calling my dad by his first name like that.” I said and we laughed. “Ima get at you later my boy, I wanna know what’s happening with you and shorty over there.” He nodded in Amber’s direction as he rejoined his family in preparing to leave. They left and suddenly it was just my family and I with Amber and the Alpha and Luna. “Son can you please check your phone? It’s been buzzing and driving me crazy.” My mom said to me. I opened the text and almost broke my phone.
