8. Secret playlist

DANIELLA POV I woke up to the sound of rock music filling the small space of my dorm room. My face felt sore from all the crying I did last night. My chest felt hollow at the realization that Donovon doesn’t want me. I lifted my head slightly to see Rosa bustling around our dorm. I watched a bright smile play across her face and listened as she sang along to the lyrics. “Are you cleaning?” I asked, my voice thick with sleep. I jumped when Rosa let out a half scream half shout. She clutched a dirty shirt that she’d just picked up against her chest. “You scared the f**k out of me!” She exclaimed as she let out a long sigh. “You are a badass, hybrid warrior that has fought more rogues than I can count, but your sister waking up behind you, scares you?” I asked with a raised brow. “Oh shut up, I was lost in my own world.” She huffed as she tossed the dirty shirt at me. “Sorry, black isn’t my color.” I replied flatly as I hurled the shirt back at her. She caught it mid air and c****d her head to the side as she scrutinized me. “What’s wrong?” Worry clearly written on her face. I closed my eyes, trying to bite back the tears that threatened to fall. “Dani, talk to me.” She said softly as she came to the side of my lofted bed. “Who are you and what have you done with my sister?” I raised my brow as I looked down at her. Rosa huffed and crossed her arms. “I’m just worried for you, you were so excited about your date.” The words made my stomach sink. “The date was terrible.” I let out a choked sigh as I fought off tears. “What happened?” Her silver eyes were wide as they stared up at me. “He wants me to reject him, he thinks he isn’t the right man for me.” I flopped back onto my pillows. “What a d**k! Who is he? I’ll f*****g kill him.” Rosa paced our bedroom. “Wait… did you say reject you?” She turned to me with wide eyes. “s**t!” I mumbled, pinching the bridge of my nose. “You found your second chance mate and the douchebag wants you to reject him?” She exclaimed with her fists balled at her sides. “Rosa, please, calm down.” I pleaded as I fully sat up. “No Dani! You don’t deserve this, you deserve a good mate, a good man.” She paused and slowly turned to me. “It is a man… right?” She smirked at me with a c****d brow. Before I could think I hurled a pillow at her. “Yes it’s a man!” I exclaimed, feeling my cheeks burn. Rosa caught the pillow and gently tossed it on my bed. “There’s nothing wrong with liking women, I mean look at my dad and Diego-” “I am going to stop you right there, I do not want that image of our parents in my head.” I said, cutting her off. “At least you haven’t actually witnessed it, remember our sixteenth birthday? I cannot believe they didn’t lock their bedroom door.” Rosa grumbled as she rubbed her eyes as if she could remove the memory. I couldn’t help the laughter that escaped me. Rosa was so pissed that day, I remember hearing her screech from downstairs. “My trauma isn’t funny, Daniella.” She huffed and crossed her arms. “You're right, you’re right.” I said as my laughter slowly died out. “What are you going to do?” Rosa asked as she leaned against my bed frame. “I don’t know.” I mumbled as I played with my hands in my lap. “Hey, don’t let this get to you. You are smart, beautiful, and funny, he’s an i***t if he can’t see that. Maybe he just needs time to adjust?” “Are you giving me a pep talk?” I giggled as I looked down at her. “I guess I am.” She huffed. “I’m not good at this sisterly s**t, but I’m trying.” She said after a beat of silence. “Thank you, Rosa.” She grumbled something under her breath as she walked back to finish cleaning our room. “Wait, how was your date?” Rosa froze at my words with her back to me. “Oh, um, it was okay.” She squeaked out. “Just okay?” I asked with amusement. “It was amazing.” She sighed, letting her shoulders drop, still not facing me. “Then what’s wrong?” I asked with furrowed brows. “I want to be an Alpha, I want to be someone important and in charge. It feels like it’s what I was destined to do. How is that going to happen when I’m mated to some random vampire?” She slowly turned, but kept her gaze focused on the floor. “He’s not just some random vampire, he’s your mate, Rosa.” I watched as she rolled her eyes and threw her hands up. “Yeah, yeah, yeah, but you didn’t answer my question.” She crossed her arms and stared me down with her silver eyes. “The only thing I can tell you is to listen to your heart. The Moon Goddess gave you this second chance for a reason.” She sighed and ran a hand down her face. “I have an idea.” She said, straightening up with an evil smile. “I’m listening.” I reluctantly replied. “I promise to give things a try if you promise to do the same with your mate.” My heart twinged at the reminder of my mate. “Rosa, he doesn’t want-” “No, no, no, Daniella, you listen to me, men have weaknesses.” She said as she cut me off. “All you have to do is show him what he’s missing.” Her evil smile spread causing an uneasy feeling in my stomach. “What do you mean?” I eyed her warily. “Have you ever given someone a blow job?” My spine snapped up straight and gasped left my lips. “Rosalina, I am not doing that!” I exclaimed, clutching my hands to my chest like some scared old lady clutching her pearls. “Oh come on, people f**k their mates after knowing them for only five seconds, it’s no big deal.” She rolled her eyes and waved her hand dismissively. “Okay? I am not one of those people!” My voice slowly climbed higher as my anxiety crept up my spine. “Ugh, fine, maybe just some suggestive touching and kissing.” She wiggled her perfect brows at me. I pulled my pillow up and slammed my face into it. Maybe if I try hard enough she’ll go away. “No go? Maybe a short skirt and low cut top.” Nope, she’s still here. “Rosa, I am not doing that.” I sighed, letting my pillow drop as I gaze down at her. “I’m trying to help.” She replied softly, a sad smile pulled at her lips. “I know.” I climbed down from my bed and once I stood before her, I pulled her into a quick hug. “Ugh don’t hug me.” She grumbled as she shoved me away. I couldn’t help the smile that played on my lips. My big, badass sister trying to be soft and gentle is something I never thought I’d see. “Want some help with cleaning up?” I asked, gesturing to her piles of clothes. “I think it’s mostly my stuff.” We looked around together and laughed at the clear divide between our things. Pink and purple one side verses death and gloom. “It’s okay, I have to do some laundry too.” I shrugged as I turned to my hamper. Rosa and I worked in somewhat silence as we sorted our clothes by color. “Here, you take a turn with the jams.” She said, handing me her phone. “Are you sure you’re okay with pop music?” I raised a skeptical brow at her outstretched hand. “Take the phone before I change my mind.” She replied in a flat tone. I giggled at her stoic face as I pulled up her music app and searched for a pop playlist. I clicked the first one, put it on shuffle, and handed her her phone. As I got back to sorting I listened as the opening notes of Olivia Rodrigo's song, Vampire, started playing. “Oh this is perfect.” Rosa laughed as she turned up the volume. “You know who Olivia Rodrigo is?” I asked with raised brows. “I may or may not have a pop playlist.” She replied quietly. “No way! Show me!” I gasped and attempted to reach for her phone. “If you tell anyone I will-” “Yeah, you’ll kill me, I get it, now shut up and hand me the playlist.” I cut her off causing her to glare at me. “Fine.” She sighed and handed me her phone. I giggled and laid back onto my pile of clothes as I scrolled through her secret playlist.
