After I’m done explaining I take in everyone’s expressions. Our fathers looked pissed, ready to find the kid and beat him to a pulp. Silent tears rolled down mama’s cheeks and lastly I looked up at Rosa. I never explained to her why I rejected our mate. Looking at her now, I can see her anger. She looks just like Papa Rafael, jaw clenched and nostrils flared.
“Oh my sweet girls.” My mama wept and pulled me close. I looked up to see her reach up for Rosa’s hand and surprisingly Rosa didn’t pull her hand away. I watched as they innerlocked their fingers and gave each other a light squeeze.
“It’s okay, mama.” I mumbled into her midnight hair as I squeezed her. Soon she let me settle back into my seat and thick, awkward silence fell over us. I glanced up at Rosa, but she wasn’t focused on the floor, in her own world.
“We have second chance mates.” I said, causing mama to gasp.
“You both have separate mates?” She asked as she held my hand.
“Yes, mama.” I smiled at her and squeezed her hand.
“They better be good men.” Papa Rafael growled lowly.
“I think they are, they have good minds.” I tell him the half lie and watch as he relaxes slightly.
“Good.” My dad says and gives me an approving nod.
“You haven’t completed your bonds yet?” My mother says as she gazes at our empty necks. Even though vampires and werewolves can be very different, mate marks are the same. For Rosa and I, we will just have two little puncture marks where the mate mark goes. It’s small and discreet, but visible with our enhanced vision.
“N-no, I’m still getting to know my mate.” My face flushes at the thought of mating with Donovon.
“And there’s no rush, sweetheart, you take your time.” My mama says as she smiles at me and then at my sister.
“Same thing for you, Rosa, there’s no rush.” Rosa gives our mom a tight nod, but by the look on her face I know she’s still lost in thought.
“Well I want to meet these men.” Papa Rafael declares, causing Rosa and I to both look at him. Rosa’s silver gaze locks with my golden eyes, there’s worry in those depths.
“Rafe, don’t rush my girls.” Mama sends him a low growl and I watch as her green eyes glow slightly. They have a silent conversation before Papa Rafael sighs and rolls his eyes.
“Don’t you roll your eyes at me, mister.” Mama says, causing me to giggle.
“You better chill before she makes you sleep on the couch.” My dad whispers to Papa Rafael. Papa Rafael makes a hmph noise and turns to stare out the window. I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face, I’ve missed my parents so much.
“What are we going to do?” Rosa asks, bringing me back to Earth.
“From now on, neither of you are to be alone, you will always have a warrior with you.” Dad declares as he looks between us.
“I’ll need to do some more research to try and figure out what this vision means.” Mama says as she taps her finger against her lips.
“Be very careful and always aware of your surroundings, okay?” She says, glancing between both of us. Rosa and I nod in unison. I watch as mama seems to relax slightly.
“And I want you to both call me once a day.” She smiles as she stands. To my surprise Rosa pulls mama into a tight hug.
“I promise, mama.” Rosa whispers to her. My heart feels full as I watch them hug, it’s a very rare occurrence. Soon we’re all moving around the room, hugging each other and saying our goodbyes. Rosa even gives my dad a hug, I try to hide my surprise as she tells him that she loves him. After our parents leave I let out a sigh.
“I can’t believe you lied to me, Rosalina.” I shook my head as I turned from her.
“I was going to tell them, but it slipped my mind.” I watched her shrug from the corner of my eye.
“This isn’t something you can just shrug off.” I snap at her as I turn to face her.
“Woah, watch your tone.” She throws up her hands defensively.
“No, I’m not gonna watch my tone, Rosa.” I clench my fists at my sides.
“What’s gotten into you?” She says as she crosses her arms.
“Nothing, I just have some f*****g common sense. This is serious, she saw someone murdering us!” My voice raises slightly and I watch anger flash in Rosa’s silver gaze.
“Watch the way you f*****g talk to me.” She snarls as she steps closer to me.
“No, I won’t! You’re a spoiled brat that gets whatever she wants with no consequences. You treat our poor parents like s**t and don’t forget the fact that I was your punching bag for years.” My body trembles as I yell at her, the air shifts and flames appear out of my fists. I almost never activate my powers, but it’s like I can’t control it right now.
“Dani, chill out.” Rosa says as she eyes my fists wearily and takes a step back. I shake my fists trying to snuff out the flames, but it’s no use.
“I-I have to go.” I say and let panic take control as I run from our dorm room.
“Dani!” Rosa calls out to me, but I’m not listening, I need to leave. There’s only one person I want to see right now. Only one person that can calm me down. I take a deep breath as I burst through the doors of our dorm building. I shift into my wolf without a second thought. I concentrate on my bond and let my body follow where it leads. It feels like I’ve been running for hours before I’m stopping at a giant mansion of a home. It’s dark and gothic, perfect for a vampire. I shift back into my human form and pound on the front door. Sobs wrack my body as I stand there in the cold. I tremble as the door flies open. Donovon stands in the doorway in nothing but a pair of sleep pants.
“Daniella?” He asks as his eyes roam over my naked body. I don’t give him a chance to respond before I’m pressing against him and crashing our lips together.
