Chapter 1
Raela POV
I grab my bag and rush out the door. My mom yelling at me that I am running late as usual. We don't have the best relationship. But not the worst either. We argue, and when we argue it's bad, but when things are good, they're good. But we butt heads a lot. I rush to the corner to meet with Anna. Anna is my best friend. She and I have been best friends since middle school. I am Raela. I am 17, I will be 18 in 2 months, Anna will be 18 in 1 month. We both are seniors. I am unsure how I made it to being a senior. My grades are horrible. I think they keep moving me up because of my test scores. I do amazing on tests. Before I know it we walk into the school with only 3 minutes to spare until homeroom. I look at Anna and say "See ya later AnnaBanana, love you".
Anna replies "See you at lunch! Love you too!"
That's something we started in middle school. We always say 'I love you' before we part ways. I rush to my locker and put my jacket away and grab a few things out and head to homeroom. The bell tings as I walk through the classroom door. I hate being the last one into the classroom. I try to keep to myself and stay under the radar since the incident. I keep my head down and try to walk to my sea, but of course someone sticks their foot out trying to trip me. I walked into their foot but didn't fall, thank God. I look up and see him smiling and he says " watch where you're going stupid b***h. You can't even walk right." The teacher wasn't paying attention and didn't hear of course. But nothing would have happened anyway. I just continue walking to my seat. Miles is the star of the football team, he does whatever he wants. And that includes making my life a living hell. Ever since I turned him down in front of everyone in grade 10, he hates me. I try to go the other way anytime I see him, but in homeroom that isn't possible.
I hear the announcements going on but I don't pay attention. I have my headphones sneakily in and I am doodling in my notebook. I am just ready for lunch already. Anna and I have lunch and our last period together which this semester is gym class.
The bell rings and everyone gets up to leave, I stand up last and walk out and head to my first period English class. English is my favorite subject, and my only class that I am not failing. It's the only class I even pay attention in. It also doesn't hurt that Mr. Camden is easy on the eyes either. Icy Blue eyes, jet black hair, strong jaw. I could listen to him talk for hours. This week he is talking about Romeo and Juliet. We read that in grade 9, but he wants to discuss how Shakespeare portrayed their love for each other though they didn't really know each other and he wants a paper by next Monday where we explain whether we believe Romeo and Juliet actually loved each other or not. I will Probably write my paper and have it done by this Wednesday. Anna loves English too. I think it's because of Mr. Camden. I think most of the girls in our school only liked english because of Mr. Camden. Anna though, I think hers went a bit beyond crush. She would always try to stay late in his class. When Mr. Camden was in charge of detention, she would lie and say she had detention to stay in detention. Anna was cuckoobananas for Mr. Camden.
Unlike most girls our age, Anna and I only had a few crushes. Anna had a crush on Alonzo, a football player who was a grade ahead of us, so he graduated last year, and Mr. Camden. I had 3 crushes. Mr. Camden, Anna, and Gavin. I would never tell Anna I used to like her like her. I used to, back in like grade 9. But it passed quickly. And Gavin, he is the bad boy of the neighborhood. He dropped out of high school and he seems to always be in some kind of trouble around town. My dad noticed me staring at him once when I was about 12, and told me to stay away from him because he isn't like us. Gavin was always in trouble. Even as a kid. Always fighting someone. But I liked him anyway.
