Chapter1
The Heart-Wreck!
~Aria’s POV~
“You unfaithful bastard!” "Pathetic liar, that's what you're!"
My shriek echoed through the walls of the ceremony hall. The melodious wedding music instantly went silent.
My anger was evident enough that all the wedding guests popped their eyeballs at me in shock. Everything seemed messy!
Liam Frost quickly rotated his neck in my direction. His light brown eyes widened when his eyes finally met with mine.
"Aria… please… what's going on?" He muttered in an uncontrollable stutter, his voice oozing with uncertainty.
"Don't dare have my name spilled from your lips again!" I barked at him with a deep sneer.
My right foot slammed against the floor in fury. Hot tears were already burning in my eyes.
"I'm so disappointed in you! How could you cheat on me? You spat on what we shared!”
“Of all the people you chose to do such with her?!" I flashed a glare at Selene Nightshade, who was my younger sister.
She stood in the dark corner wearing a mischievous beam that was etched on her cheeks.
The guests in the hall started muttering and engaged in indistinct gossip.
Towards my left-hand side was my father, Alpha Victor Nightstand, whose countenance was wrapped with disbelief.
My mother, Isabella Nightstand, stood behind Liam; the look on her face screamed shame and disappointment. Beside me was Mira, my best friend, who managed to hold a grip on my arm.
"Dear friend, please, not here. "Don't do this right now; today is your wedding," Mira whispered into my ears.
I smirked at her inaudible words. I understood she was trying to calm the tension in the air, but it was already too late for that.
I was about to pour out my heart to my supposed mate, whom I was supposed to tie the knot within a few minutes, and there was nothing anyone would do to stop me. Nothing!
“This is the perfect place,” I whispered to her, still wearing a threatening smirk.
“Keep your eyes on me, Liam! "I have questions that require immediate response!” My voice heightened the more.
“Was I just some sort of pleasurable toy to you? Did you mean your words about loving me, or were your promises blatant lies?”
Liam nervously scratched his hair, his eyes barely fixed on mine. He attempted to step closer to me, but my fierce countenance had him standing at the same spot.
He managed to spill out, his tone disorganized. “I didn't mean to sleep with her. It all happened so fast. I'm so sorry.”
"It happened so fast?" My heart shredded in dread. I couldn't believe those were the silly words he could come up with for his shameless acts.
What!!!
“You broke your commitment. I can't trust you anymore! You were supposed to be my mate! My forever person! And you threw it all away. For her.”
Selene’s green eyes were flickering in menace. "Oh, dear sister," she chipped in a fake sweet voice. "Don't be so emotional." This was going to happen anyway. You were always too perfect, too good."
I tried to jump at her without hesitation. I wanted to hurt her. But my best friend pulled me back just in time.
"Don't do it, Aria," Mira maintained. "She's not worth getting in trouble for."
I felt tears swimming like an ocean. "You planned this whole thing. Didn't you? You wanted to make me look bad."
Liam's jaw got tight. "I love you, Aria. I promise."
"You can't promise me sh*t!" My voice desperately broke out. You tricked me so well. I thought we were meant to be together forever. But you're just a lie!"
“I hereby call off this pathetic union. Even in a thousand years, I will never marry a man who would be sexually screwing my younger sister behind my back!”
“Even if a gun were to be pointed at my head, "I will never!” My voice roared like never before. So much pain plunged into my heart.
The hall fell into more silence. My heart was racing every second. The hurt, embarrassment, and shame were crushing me. I had to get out of there.
I turned around and ran off before Mira or my parents attempted to stop me.
My home— Shadowcrest Pack, wasn't conducive anymore; I couldn't take the shame of being a perfect subject for constant gossip.
The guests gasped in profound shock and rolled their eyes in disappointment. The supposed wedding ceremony didn't happen as expected. Everything has fallen apart.
Something changed in the air while I vigorously ran deep into the forest.
I almost fell but I kept sprinting. My heart bled as the thought of Liam's s****l adventure with Serene kept replaying in my head.
Unexpectedly, I felt the presence of an unknown person. It seemed like I was being watched from a distance.
A powerful unseen figure. Strong and heavy.
The power coming from the aura made my wolf, Zara, whimper inside me. This wasn't just any mere werewolf - this was an Alpha. A big one!
Within a split second, a huge masculine build stepped before my face. I couldn't take my eyes off him, my heart racing with complications.
Dark hair fell across his face, and he looked way older. The way he carried himself yelled power and danger.
I didn't know who he was. We had many packs in this area, but I'd never felt power like this before. My lips were zipped in shock.
What possible words would I use to engage such a powerful, fearless figure?
"Lost?" He finally spilled the first word. His bold aura had my knees buckled in nervousness with my wedding attire looking messy.
"Go away. Leave me alone," I managed to respond. I held my trembling breath so he wouldn't know how his confidence had enchanted me.
He took a step closer. Something in his eyes changed when he looked at me properly. It seemed like his bright blue eyes could read through my in-depth thoughts.
"Don't be afraid; well, I don't really bite," his moves were unpredictable, and his choice of words made my blood tingle in uncertainty.
"Don't worry about me. "Everything is fine with me," the lie felt weak even to my ears.
A small, sour smile touched his lips. "Lying isn't your strong skill, little wolf."
Tears burned behind my eyes again. Who was this stranger who looked way older than me?
"How could he read me so easily when we'd just met? "I just... I just want to be alone."
"Running won't fix what's broken." The way he said it - it wasn't judging or mean. It sounded like he knew what I was battling with.
It felt like he could understand what heartache and pain really meant.
"Don't be quick to think you know a lot about me because you don't!” I tried to stay firm. I wouldn't let myself get carried away by the strange powerful figure.
Liam's unfaithfulness and Serene's betrayal were a lot to deal with. However, with a quick stare into the stranger’s eyes, I could see a hidden pain; it seemed like I wasn't the only one who had walked along a lonely, crooked path called HEART-WRECK!
"Come on, don't play smart. "I know the great pain that comes with heartache," his voice got softer, kinder. "And I know what betrayal means."
Something about his words made my heart skip louder. Who was he? How could a stranger understand so perfectly what I was feeling?
And why did his presence make me feel both scared and... safe?
Before I could ask any of these questions, a low growl cut through the night air. Red eyes glowed in the darkness. Three pairs of them.
Rogues!
My whole body went cold. On any other day, I might have been able to fight. But now, in my torn wedding dress, with my heart in pieces, I felt weak.
Vulnerable!
The unknown Alpha moved in front of me. His broad shoulders covered my view, and his movements were wild while he confidently wrapped around me like a shield.
"Stay behind me," he boldly instructed. His voice had changed - louder, more authoritative. It made my wolf submit quickly.
"I can fight," I muttered, but my voice shook. Who was he to protect me? Why did he care so much?
"Stay." Just one word, but it held so much power. My legs actually quivered from the force of it.
The biggest rogue lunged at us. What happened next left me breathless.
The stranger moved like a ghost, like death itself. His fist connected with the rogue's face - the c***k of bones slammed through the forest.
There was something beautiful and frightening about the way he fought. Raw power, but managed. Like a storm trapped in human form.
I was so busy watching him that I didn't see the second rogue coming. Pain burst across my shoulder as claws ripped through my skin.
My scream echoed across!!!
I fell to my knees, blood soaking what was left of my white dress. The irony wasn't lost on me - this dress was supposed to be the best day of my life. Now it was stained with my blood.
The odd stranger's roar shook the trees. I looked up through blurry eyes to see him grab my attacker by the throat.
The anger on his face made him look like a different person in pure rage.
"Bastard! "Lay your filthy hands on her again, and she'll be the last person you'll ever see,” he threatened in high pitch.
“Why did he care so much?” I couldn't help but ask myself.
He lunged against the two rouges before they charged forward. He didn't give them any breathing space as he tore them apart.
Why was he so angry about me being hurt? He didn't know me, neither did I. And I noticed earlier that he looked older, but he'd got a cute face. Yet he fought like I meant something to him.
The last rogue paused, its red eyes moving between us. Before my strange guardian could reach me, the rogue attacked.
So much pain.
Teeth sank into my side, tearing through my skin. I could barely see clearly but one thing I wouldn't forget was how vehemently he fought to ensure the last rogue didn't finish me off.
Who are you? I wanted to ask. But darkness took me before I could form those words.
My last thought was how strange it was— to feel so safe with a stranger, even as I slipped into unconsciousness.
