Chapter 1
Jordan, I was running through the forest. My wolf was screaming to keep running, my paws and legs burning. Panting as I ran, I needed to keep running. I can't let them catch me, my family and pack if they find me. I'm only thirteen, but I can't take the way I've been treated anymore. My family, because of how young I am, shifters are not supposed to shift until at least sixteen. But I did at the age of six. The next thing that my family didn't like was the way my wolf looked. She was silver, with icy blue eyes. It's uncommon, so rare that most wolves fear it. And how my pack and family responded to that was not good. I got abused on a daily basis, beatings on nights of shift the entire pack would attack me. A few nights ago, I made the decision to leave. I needed to leave. I shifted in the early morning, slipping past the patrols and ran for my life. Sadly, not long after I started running, they were on my tail. I was already weak from the abuse and lack of food, but I was determined to get out of this hell. I realize it's been a few days since that morning and I have no idea where I am. I'm someplace in the mountains. I finally stopped running. I come to a river and get a much-needed drink. As I was lapping up the water, not getting the water fast enough. That's where I hear the sickening sound of growling but not a wolf growl. A bear. I stopped drinking the water dripping from my muzzle. I slowly turned around and saw a big grizzly bear. I smell he's a shifter. Shifter's smell different compared to humans and animals. I put my ears back and my tail between my legs. Showing the bear I'm no threat. The problem is when I shift. I can’t shift back. No one ever taught me. The only reason I shift back is when I get overwhelmed by pain from the other pack members attacking me. The bear sniffed, realizing I was scared, and a shifter the Bear shifted into this tall muscular man. He had a tattoo up his arm that stopped on the right side of his chest. He had dark hair and green eyes. He had a little bit of stubble. And was tan “It’s alright. I’m not going to hurt you.” He said in a calming voice, But me and my wolf know better than to listen to those words. I didn’t give him a chance to do anything and took off running. I didn’t want to chance it. I had to escape as I ran. I came to a dead end, the side of a mountain, nothing but rock. I whined, knowing I was trapped by the man now in jeans and a muscle shirt with a flannel over it, panting, clearly keeping up with me in human form. “Easy, I’m not going to hurt you I promise, I just want to help. Your hurt.” He spoke softly. My ears were back as I backed up away from him with each step he took. I’m not a fully grown wolf yet because I’m only thirteen, like I said. I’m too young to have shifted. Normally, by the time we shift, our wolf is fully matured and grown. But not mine. I don’t know when my wolf will fully mature. I was backed up against the rock of the mountain. I couldn’t back up anymore. He kneeled in front of me, “What are you doing out here all alone in this shape?” He asked with his gruffy voice. He slowly stuck his hand out. “Trust him!” My wolf yelled. I inched my head into his hand so his hand was on my head between my ears. “Wow, your fur is so soft,” he said with a chuckle. I whined as he petted me. “Can you shift back?” He asked. I shook my head no. He hummed “I can help, but it might scare you,” he said. Next thing I know, he lets out a big loud roar of a grizzly bear. Suddenly I felt myself turning back human, I feel my fur disappearing and tail disappearing, my spine straightening out, my paws turned into hands and feet. I was now lying on the cold ground, my knees to my chest and my arms folded, just now realizing how damn cold it was out here. “You’re- You’re just a kid?” He spoke dumbfounded. He shrugged off his flannel, using it as a blanket covering me as he picked me up, one arm under my knees and the other under my head. He was a lot warmer than I am, that’s for sure. I shivered as he walked, And for the first time I allowed myself to rest, my eyes slowly fluttering shut, and succumbing to darkness. Brock To say that this injured and terrified wolf was just a kid was a complete shock to me, My bear the entire time was on edge, saying "protect, she’s ours! Mine!" Now what you need to understand about bears, there are two things that bears are very territorial about; mates, which at this moment is impossible, and cubs, which in this case, are very possible. My Bear just claimed her as his cub. I looked down at her and saw she was fast asleep. Know telling what she’s been through seeing those injuries she has, it can’t be good. I tracked through the mountains to my log cabin home. I live in the mountains for one reason. I really can’t stand people. They get on my nerves way too easily and, being a grizzly shifter, it’s not a good thing anything can set us off. I finally made it home, opening the door with the kid in my arms. It’s very uncommon for a girl this young to be shifting already, let alone all on her own. Where is her pack? Normally, wolves travel in packs. I lay her down in my bed. I don’t know why, because I don’t let anyone in my bed, including women. Normally, just to get the itch, I go to a hotel.I’m very territorial about my space. It’s just the bear in me, I guess. I walked into the bathroom getting some first aid supplies. Some of her injuries were deep. Claw marks, Multipule bite marks, As I was stitching her up I couldn’t help but notice how exhausted she was, not even flinching as I was applying stitches. “What the hell happened to you?” I mumbled.
