Remi’s heart beat fast as she stared at Father De Sanctis.
The original book. That’s what they’re looking for, and that’s what he was hoping to find in the burned church in Cavriglia.
But they must have copies. After all the persecution they said they’ve suffered, they wouldn’t have just one copy, would they?
Unless they think it’s too dangerous to copy.
Possibilities swirled in Remi’s mind. A lost gospel! Of course, several had been found before and hadn’t caused all that many ripples. After so many centuries of having the approved books of the Bible set in stone, new gospels such as the Gospel of Judas could be dismissed by theologians as not truly part of the Bible. Much of the general public, assuming they heard about the books at all, remained indifferent.
