Shane’s POV
Clifden is my mate.
That thought has been circling around in my head for the past two days. And the more I think about it, the more it made sense because my cranky wolf is getting excited at seeing him again which scares me because a mate is something I don’t look forward to finding. If ever I will be an Alpha of my own pack, what would my mate be? A male Luna? And a human at that! Has there ever been one in history? As incredulous I find it, Garreth, however find it hilarious. I just heaved a sigh to clear my thoughts as we got off the bus. Yes, the bus, we use the school bus to go on our school because we sold our van so we can have some money to buy some of our necessities.
“Oh my gosh! Shane, finally we can go to school! I am so excited!” Phoebe exclaimed then took my hand and jumped up and down repeatedly. Garreth has a wide variation of expression on his face but what trumps the most is frustration. Luna Claire managed to enroll us as 4th year high school even if the school year already started for two months.
“You can voice out your own opinion, you know.” I told Garreth. He obviously isn’t as excited as us because he already experienced going to school before but he’s not saying anything because he doesn’t want to ruin our fun. “I don’t think you can ruin Phoebe’s excitement, anyway.”
“Honestly, I’m also a little excited going to a HUMAN school and know about HUMAN stuffs. However, it feels like a waste of time when we can learn about more werewolf stuff instead.” He said a little frustrated.
“Well, Mr. Werewolf, that’s why we’re only required to spend half day studying ‘human stuff’, while the rest is spent training.” Phoebe said, still grinning widely and started walking inside the school. “You won’t ruin our fun, but someone will definitely ruin Shane’s.” she said, halting and looking at somewhere.
I followed where she’s looking and see Clifden smiling at a girl who’s talking to him animatedly and has her arm around his. As if sensing our stares, he looked up and saw our group staring at them. Our eyes met for a split second, waking my wolf up, before he turned to the girl beside him and said something. The girl kissed him on the cheek then skipped into the school as Clif makes his way to us.
“Hey, it’s you guys! I was wondering when will you guys finally show up.” He said with a small laugh when he finally reached us.
“Well, it looks like you kept yourself entertained while we’re not here, anyway.” Phoebe said when he nodded at her after shaking Garreth’s hand. Clifden frowned at that then looked at me for clarification, but instead he caught me staring at where the girl with him earlier disappeared to, making me feel embarrassed of being caught red-handed.
“Ohh,” he said after looking where I was staring, as if understanding why I’m staring there. He’s looking at me, amused. “That’s my sister!” he said making me more embarrassed than earlier.
“Hmm, really?” Garreth asked.
“Yah, really.” Clifden answered, still smiling me.
“Why don’t you look like each other then?” Phoebe asked making Garreth nod and Clifden raise his eyebrows.
“First of all, does all siblings look like each other? And second, we don’t look like each other because she’s adopted. Actually,” he stopped explaining as he started walking into the school, which of course made us follow him to know what he’s saying next. “we’re both adopted. You remember when I told you about my parents? Well, they’ve been trying to have a child but after having no luck, they adopted me and then Amber the next year. They were planning of adopting another one this year because they’ve always wanted three kids, but God finally blessed them with a kid. My mom is 7 months pregnant with their first real, blood related child.” He elaborated with a smile. It made me a little jealous because I can never tell anyone about my family with a smile like that.
“Anyway, are you guys---” Clif was about to ask but a tall, handsome blond guy came barreling towards us and hug Clifden, almost lifting him from the ground. Using my supernatural senses, this guy is obviously a werewolf. All three of us glanced at each other because the blond guy hasn’t let go yet even with Clif’s protest.
Should we interfere? I heard Phoebe asked through our mind link. Garreth opened his mouth, about to say something but another blond guy came stomping towards us, clearly mad about something. Wait, they look like each other. Are they twins? Or maybe, they are Alpha Paul’s triplets! I thought after realizing that they kind of look like Alpha Paul.
“Robert! You’re such a f*****g cheater!” The 2nd blond guy exclaimed.
“No, I’m not! You’re just slow, brother.” The 1st guy, Robert, said after untangling himself from Clif.
The 2nd guy glared at his brother then moved in to hug Clif as well, but Clif pushed him away with a finger on the forehead. “No more hugs?” to which Clif shook his head and offered his fist instead for a fist bump. The 2nd guy pouted and settled with a fist bump instead.
“Sorry, Brad. Rob here exhausted the free hugs I can give for the day.” Clifden said with a smile. “And also, if you haven’t noticed, I’m quite busy.” He added gesturing towards us.
The twins glanced at us, recognition in their eyes, so we gave them a wave as Clif introduces us. “Guys this is Shane, Garreth, and Phoebe. And then these two absurdly tall guys beside me is Brandon and Robert, but you can just call them Brad and Rob. They’re triplets actually, the oldest one, Jonathan or Jon is missing.” Clifden’s smiling face suddenly changed and his eyes narrowed looking back at us and the twins. He put his hands on his pockets then said slowly, as if testing the waters, “Do you guys know that these triplets and one other friend of ours has supernatural hearing and smell?”
To say we we’re surprised when Clif mentioned it is an understatement. I looked glanced at the twins, and they look uncomfortable. “What do you mean?” I heard Garreth ask, feigning ignorance.
Clifden just smiled at us then pulled out his phone and asked us, “Can you hear this?” after pressing something on it. The sound coming from the phone is like two things scratching onto one another. Like a nail and a blackboard. Garreth and Phoebe hates this sound because they find it irritating. I was about to tell them about this when I realized what’s happening.
The sound coming from the phone is very low and possibly low enough that human’s normal hearing won’t pick it up. Sh*t, he’s testing our supernatural hearing. When I realized this I immediately mind linked the others.
Pretend you don’t hear anything!
However, my mind link warning came too late because Phoebe has already slapped a hand onto her ears and asked, “What the f*ck is that?”
I looked a little around us and noticed that some other werewolves here are trying their best to keep their faces straight. The twins earlier has already disappeared too. “She has it too. The supernatural hearing.” Clifden muttered more to himself, clearly thinking about something.
“What do you mean? I don’t have it.” Phoebe defended herself, too shocked to realize that she’s just digging her own grave deeper.
“The sound I just played has a frequency of 5 Hz. A young healthy and normal person can hear from 20 to 20,000Hz.” He explained with a small smile, looking at the three of us. Phoebe immediately looked at me for assistance.
I cleared my throat to catch his attention. “So Clifden, what were you going to ask earlier?” I asked as I continued walking while looking back at him. He narrowed his eyes at me, knowing the fact that I was trying to change the subject. After a couple of seconds, he closed his eyes and when he opened them, the gentle look and carefree smile is back again. Oh, thank God he dropped it.
He immediately tried to catch up to me with my friends on his heels. “Well, I was gonna as---” but someone cut him off again.
“CLIFDEN!” we all turned to look where it came from and see that it came from the same girl with Clif earlier and she’s with one other girl. Her sister, Amber said. “Hey! She said you didn’t text her back!”
“Who’s she?” Clif asked exasperatedly.
“This girl here, Mag---” she was saying pointing to the girl beside her
“Actually, forget that I asked.” Cutting his sister off then turning to the other girl. “I know that you’re an awesome girl, ok? I’m sure there are a lot of guys who would want you to be their girlfriend out there. It’s just that… I’m not one of those guys.” He continued, trying to let her down easy but the girl still ran away crying, making Clif sigh. His sister was about to say something, but Clif beat her to it again, “As for you, Amber, as much as I appreciate you trying to help me get a girlfriend. My answer would still be the same, I don’t need your help, ok? Do I give out your number like a freebie coupon to every guy I know?”
“No. And I don’t want you to.” Amber said with a pout.
“Exactly! So, don’t you think I deserve the same treatment?.” He said, Amber nodded begrudgingly, and Clif gave her a pat on the head.
“Why haven’t you had a girlfriend yet then?”
“Cause I’m waiting for someone.” He said with a smile and looking in my direction, making me smile as well. Amber caught our interaction so she’s now frowning and looking back between his older brother and me. “Well, now that there’s no disturbances anymore. Sha---”
“Clifden!”
Clifden looks livid. He was about to shout at whoever called him, but Amber stopped him. “Brother, chill. You look like you’re ready to kill someone.”
“What makes you think I’m not?” he snapped but so took a deep breath first then turned to who called him. “What do you need, Jon?”
After hearing the name, I immediately looked at who called him. Oh, so that’s the eldest of the identical triplets. They look so much like each other!
“Woah, I could hear the hostility in that tone. I’m sorry if ever I’m ruining your chance at finally asking someone on a date but,” the blond guy, Jon, said teasing Clif. “Coach is already looking for you. You know full well that we can’t start training without our Captain, right?”
Clifden just sighed then looked at us apologetically. “Amber, can you take them to their classes? I was planning to do it, but I have to get to training already.”
“Oh, sure. My class is gonna start in an hour still, so I have time to do it.” She said smiling at his brother. Clifden kissed the top of her sister’s head then waved goodbye at us. “There’s someone I wanted to meet here anyway.” She added while smirking at me. Oh boy, what did I just get myself into.
