Elizabeth's funeral was to be a spectacularly public affair. Margaret had to a message to each of Cardova's colonies, as well as their many political, financial and military allies, informing them of Elizabeth's death and inviting them attendance at the funeral. The Dignitaries' Palace was so full of visiting monarchs and officials that some of them had to be housed in the Royal Palace. An overwhelming response to Elizabeth's death was received from the citizens of Cardova. When the news was announced the many shops, pubs and other public places of trade were closed down temporarily. The gates around the Palace were so full of the flowers that they placed there that they had to start leaving their flowers alongside the walk to the Palace.
