Eventually, we made it halfway through the outskirts of the city when our pace slowed to a slow walk. The city streets were dark and were only lit up by the red, hazy sky. The smell was even more foul and unbearable the deeper we went. The trees and the bushes in the front yard of the gloomy houses were dead and nothing but decaying branches. The place was a sad and lonely feeling realm.
“I’m hungry.” whined Izzy as she grabbed her stomach.
Surprisingly, I didn’t feel hungry or tired, and I looked at the rest of everyone. Mariah and Jason seemed to be fine, but Sam, Corey, Jacob, Izzy and Carly looked exhausted. I knew they needed to rest. They weren’t given the special liquid like I was, and I felt bad for them. I walked up to Jason.
