-Eva Brooks-
Still locked inside the women's cell as the night fell, I was stunned when a policeman arrived and ordered me, "Eva Brooks. Come out now!"
My eyes widened in shock, and I looked over at the two inmates with me and waved goodbye at them.
"Are you sure that you aren't coming back?" The brunette lady asked me, but I wasn't sure.
"I don't know. Take care," I replied, watching the policeman unlock the gate of the cell and order me to come out.
Once I stepped out of the women's cell and followed behind the policeman, my mind wandered if Cruz was the one who had come to grant me bail.
"Miss Brooks, you have been granted bail, and the funds you owed have been paid off too," the policeman in black said, as he released my hands, took off the handcuffs, and handed over my bra, my phone, and other things that he had seized during my arrest.
"Really? By whom?" I asked the policeman in shock, because I didn't know who had come to bail me.
"Are you asking me? You should know your benefactor, or you have too many clients to know who came to your rescue," the policeman snapped, and my eyes widened in shock at his statement.
"Benefactor? No, I don't have anyone. Isn't it my older brother, Cruz?" I asked the policeman, as I was confused about who had granted me bail.
"I don't know, miss. But I must warn you not to try something like that next time. It's illegal to scam a man who you don't love to avoid going to jail," the policeman in black warned me, as he ordered me to sign on the desk and leave the police station.
After signing on the police desk, I kept on wondering who had come to bail me and also paid Jacob Stone his 15 million.
My heart raced as I thought of Ethan Owen. He was the richest CEO in Dominic City, and he could possibly splash such a huge amount without blinking an eye.
*No, it cannot be Ethan. We just met once, and he didn't know that I got arrested. But who?* I kept muttering to myself as I put my clothes back on and stepped out of the police building. The night wind bathed my body, and I shivered at the cold.
Seeing that I was holding my phone, I took a look around the police parking lot, and I didn't spot my older brother's red sports car there.
Shaking my head, I hastily dialed Cruz's phone number to find out who had come to grant me bail.
"Hello, brother," I said, my voice trembling as soon as Cruz answered my call.
"Eva, how did you get your phone? I thought that you were locked up in the police cell. Actually, I have been trying to talk to Maddison to allow me to go and bail you, but she refused to help me. And I honestly don't have up to 15 million to come and settle your bail and refund Jacob Stone his money," Cruz said, his voice nervous, and my eyes widened in shock.
"Wait, Cruz, are you not the one who had come to bail me out?" I asked my brother in shock about who had come to my rescue.
"What? Eva, have you been granted bail? By whom?" Cruz asked, shocked.
"I don't know. The policeman said it's one of my benefactors, and I don't know who he meant. He didn't want to mention the person's name, and also, he didn't tell me who did. But he said that Jacob has been paid off the money I owe him, and also, I am free," I said, unable to believe that my brother wasn't the man who had come to bail me out.
"Eva, wait for me. I am coming over to the police station right now to find out what is happening," Cruz said, and I heard Maddison screaming over the phone.
"Cruz, you are not going to any police station. We are going to the Normans' clothing launch. You cannot miss the event. Let's go there!" Maddison screamed at my brother, but he cut her off before ending the call.
I heard Cruz snap at Maddison, "Enough tantrums, Maddi! Eva is more important to me than any clothing launch. You can take Noah along with you."
The phone call ended, and I was shocked when Cruz said that he wasn't the one who had come to my rescue. But who?
My phone rang as I saw five policemen patrolling in the police yard.
Glancing at the caller, I saw it was Jacob Stone calling me.
Nervously, I picked up his call. "Hello," I said.
"Eva, so you found yourself a rich daddy to come and settle your bills? Is that so? I asked you to pay me back 15 million, and you made a transfer of 16 million," Jacob said, his voice cold.
"What? 16 million? Jacob, I don't know what you're talking about," I said, unable to believe my ears.
"Really? Then who was the man you cheated on me with last night? I found out you went to Ethan Owen's VIP suite at the hotel. But I am not sure he's the man you slept with. From my findings about Ethan, he has an aversion to women. And news blogs are publishing that Ethan is gay—as to the reason he's single," Jacob said, and I was speechless.
"Ethan is gay?" I asked, shocked, as I couldn't believe that I slept with a gay man.
"Yeah. So who did you sleep with? I couldn't get any footage of the VIP suite. The footage needs Ethan's approval, and also, it's not accessible because it's his privacy. So tell me, who did you sleep with? I found out that Layla drugged you like you said, but you should have called me the previous night. I was at the hotel too. Why did you do this, Eva?" Jacob sounded teary, and I sighed.
"I am sorry, Jacob. I never meant to cheat on you. You know that I would never do that. I tried explaining to you, but you got me arrested and requested a refund. Well, I am sure we are even now. You got your money, which has settled everything. So I wish you the very best," I said, and Jacob sighed.
"I am sorry, Eva. I should have listened to you. So you mean to tell me that you don't know who the man was that you slept with?" Jacob asked, but I couldn't admit the truth that it was Ethan Owen.
Shutting my eyes, I lied, "I don't know him."
"Mmm… I find that hard to believe. But it's fine. I will get back to you. About your job, are you still going to work for Almond Tech? You can come and work for me, and maybe we will start our relationship afresh," Jacob said, and I couldn't believe that he wanted us to start all over after he had arrested me and humiliated me online.
"Jacob, I have to go home now. My parents disowned me, and I don't know where to start from. I am waiting for Cruz to come and pick me up," I said, before Jacob apologized.
"I am sorry, Eva. I know that I overreacted, but please forgive me too. We love each other, right? You know that I am hurt, and that's what drove me to do all that. But I promise you that it wouldn't happen again," Jacob said, to which I sighed and replied, "Alright. We will talk later. Take care."
My phone call with Jacob ended, and I looked around the parking lot to see if I would see anyone who could have possibly come to save me. But no one.
Immediately, my phone rang aloud, and I was shocked to see my mom was the one calling me. She had disowned me. Why was she calling me now? I pondered and nervously answered her call. "Hello, Mom."
