The Lost

    Zach and I met back in 1st grade. We met on the playground. The wood chips scratching at our exposed skin. A group of us were playing tag and because I was the slowest I usually got tagged. Well I out smarted the new kid. He fell to the ground and started to cry but I helped him back up.      He giggled, "Ha you fell for it. You are it!"     "Hey not fair!" I screamed at him. I then proceeded to run after him for the rest of recess. We were friends ever since. We did everything together. We were inseparable. Everyday we would walk to school together and walked home together. That day after first grade we found out that we were also neighbors. As we grew older through school years we were always at each others house studying for tests so we could get good grades to make our parents happy. We are always goody two shoes.      Well we were always the goody two shoes. The day I waited outside the house for him to come running out the big red front door of his house never happened. I thought to myself, that maybe he was probably sick and that I would go get his school work and bring it home. School went by slowly without Zach being there. At the end of the day I got his homework and started on the walk home alone. The wind was battering my face while the sun was shining brightly.      On my walk home I was thinking about how Zach was doing. I didn't realize it at the time but as I was staring at the ground I had made it to his front door. I stood their looking at the so familiar door. I softly knock on the door. Waiting for an answer. I wait and knock again and then I hear the door nob rattle. Then his mom with her long black elbow length hair and her always startling green eyes. She looks at me and her face doesn't look as bright as usual.      "I got his homework. Can you please give this to Zach and tell him that I hope he feels better." I say with a big smile on my face.      "He's gone. He's been missing since he went out last night on a walk. Rose. I'm sorry." She says looking down at the ground while saying it. I know she doesn't want to meet my eyes.      The moment she says it. I drop the papers and the books that I was carrying for him. I drop to my knees and start to cry and I let our a deathly scream.
