Kai woke up wrapped in a warm embrace long after the sun had climbed high into the sky.
His mind was still foggy. Before he could even process his surroundings clearly, a wave of soreness suddenly crashed over him.
It felt as though his entire body had been run over by a truck.
His head hurt. His back hurt. His legs hurt.
And his ass hurt the most.
The pain quickly forced him fully awake. Right after that, memories from the previous night came flooding back like a raging tide, filling his mind completely.
Kai froze for several seconds.
He had actually slept with a complete stranger.
Even worse, that man was still holding him in his arms right now. One arm rested beneath his pillow while the other draped possessively over his waist. Their naked bodies were pressed tightly together without the slightest gap between them.
His heart pounded wildly, and for a moment, he did not even know how to describe what he was feeling.
This was simply… insane.
In all twenty years of his life, he had never done anything this reckless before.
Kai swallowed hard, only to realize that even his throat was sore. He had been screaming far too enthusiastically last night and truly had not considered the consequences at all.
Carefully, he lifted his head and quietly studied the unfamiliar man holding him tightly in his arms.
Even now, Kai could not help praising himself inwardly. His taste really was excellent. With just a single glance, he had managed to pick out an absolute top-tier man.
Looking up from this angle should have been a complete disaster, he could barely make out anything besides those prominent nostrils. And yet, even from such a terrible angle, Kai still thought the man looked ridiculously handsome.
Not only handsome, but tall too, easily over six foot three. Broad shoulders, a narrow waist, lean yet powerful muscles.
If only they had met under different circumstances, things would have been so much better.
But the longer Kai looked at him, the more familiar the man seemed.
A vague sense of recognition slowly surfaced, as though Kai had seen this face somewhere before, and not just once.
He frowned slightly, searching through his memories.
Then suddenly, his pupils contracted.
Wasn’t this Edward Grayson?
The Edward who frequently appeared in financial and business news, occasionally even making headlines in entertainment media as well. The man behind countless high-profile projects, someone whose influence was powerful enough to shake the entire entertainment industry.
He was Edward Grayson - CEO and major shareholder of Eclipse Entertainment Group, one of the most influential entertainment conglomerates in the industry.
For a moment, Kai’s mind went completely blank.
Who exactly had he just slept with?
Then another crucial detail suddenly resurfaced in his mind.
Last night, not only had he been set up by his adoptive parents and ended up in a one-night stand with Edward, he had also experienced that horrifying dream.
And Edward had been the male lead in that dream. Unfortunately, Kai was not the other protagonist.
Suddenly, Kai felt a trace of fear creeping into his heart. He wanted to become a singer. He did not want to lose his legs. He did not want to lose his voice. So everything had to be just a dream.
And dreams could not possibly become reality… right?
Back when his biological father was still alive, whenever Kai had nightmares, the man would always comfort him by saying,
“If you dream of death, it means life in reality.
If you cry in a dream, you’ll laugh in real life.
If the dream is sad, reality will be joyful.
As long as it’s a nightmare, reality will always be the opposite.”
This time… it should be the same too, right?
Ever since childhood, Kai had experienced countless nightmares. Most of them were bizarre and nonsensical, the kind he would forget the moment he woke up.
Only last night’s dream had been different.
It had logic, structure, a complete storyline, and clearly defined characters. It did not feel like a nightmare at all. It felt more as though he had read an entire novel through a dream. It was far too strange for him to simply ignore.
Kai wondered if he should take advantage of the fact that Edward was still asleep and make a quick escape.
After all, that dream had felt so real that he could not bring himself to dismiss it lightly.
He did not want to get entangled with this man.
He did not want to become someone else’s substitute.
And he especially did not want to end up losing both his voice and his legs.
Besides, the gap between them was simply too great.
Edward stood far too high above someone like him. Even if Edward was completely his type, Kai did not think he was qualified to pursue a relationship with a man like that.
The distance between them was impossible to bridge.
While Kai was still secretly planning how to slip away unnoticed, the sudden buzzing of a phone shattered the silence, nearly making his heart leap out of his chest.
He immediately sat upright and frantically searched around, terrified the noise would wake the man beside him.
A moment later, he spotted the phone lying on the floor and quickly picked it up.
The ringtone had already been muted, leaving only vibration mode. Once lifted off the hard floor and held in his hand, the sound became far softer than before.
Kai turned to glance at Edward. Seeing that the man was still fast asleep, he finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Kai reached for the bathrobe hanging beside the bed and hurriedly threw it over himself before limping toward the bathroom.
He really wanted to walk normally, but they had gone far too hard last night. His ass hurt, his legs hurt, he could only blame himself for not knowing moderation.
By the time he entered the bathroom, the phone in his hand had finally stopped vibrating. The call had gone unanswered for too long and automatically disconnected.
But before Kai could even sigh in relief, the screen lit up once again.
The person on the other end clearly had no intention of giving up.
Kai looked at the name displayed on the screen, his expression darkening slightly.
He remained silent for several seconds. After a long moment of hesitation, he finally took a deep breath and pressed the answer button.
