Besides, he hadn’t given me his number and I knew he had mine only because Patty told me she had given it to her friend. I had asked her to, hoping the reason for Jake’s silence had everything to do with not having my phone number and nothing to do with not liking my gassy self. From an Internet search, I was able to obtain the e-mail address of the paint store, Colors, where Jake worked. I also got the street address and phone number, but I admit it, I was too much of a chicken and too fearful of rejection to use those more direct routes of contact.
