Chapter 24 Prepping

P.O.V Davina

I wake up the next morning, noticing Hardin was gone, I see a note he left for me on his pillow;

Davina, I went to training with Derek early this morning and we won't be back until evening, I want to make sure I get enough training in to prepare for tomorrow as we have the day off to get ready for the Ball. Aria should be back tonight Derek said, remember to send her picture in to Jake. Keep a mind link open for me at all times and don't hesitate to call me when you need me. See you later baby.

I smile, so like him to get straight to the point and make it short and sweet. I put the note back on his pillow and then drifted off to sleep again I was so exhausted.

Jake P.O.V

After I got off the phone lastnight with Davina I couldn't stop thinking about her at all. I'm more worried about her today than before, knowing how much she must be suffering from not being marked. Usually when you find your mate, you mark them as soon as possible, but because she blessed or I should say curse with two mates, it had made the decision hard to make for her. If I even had a choice, I would have marked her right then and there when she finally got her wolf, but then Hardin was also mated to her.

Her words she told me a few days ago still haunt me, "I love you but I don't trust you anymore." still repeat over and over in my head. Then, her sweet sad scared voice asking me to teleport to her so I can finally mark her as my mate or soulmate and that she was fading even more broke me even more than I already am. Telling her I couldn't go and hearing her defeated reply also made me hurt even more. I left her, I broke her trust in me, I lied to her before all this, then now I told her I couldn't save her life by marking her just yet. I'll hate myself forever if I don't meet her anywhere tomorrow night at mark her in time before she fades away from me forever.

I am currently running laps around my dad's hidden basement forest. I've been out here since I woke up. I've been feeling, impatient, anxious, Stress, worried and my emotions were on edge ready to explode if something was said the wrong way to me I know I'll snap. I know I have to fight the urge more than ever to not snap. Which is why I have been running laps down here, trying to hold everything in until tomorrow night.

Timothy got me a witch to train and focus my defense magic and my offence magic, I am a quick leaner and have mastered the craft growing up, but using it to fight is a whole other thing, I have not trained myself to fight with magic before. Because of the knowledge I held of magic already it was real easy for me to catch on, I finished the training last night. Timothy said, I'd be a great warrior if I wasn't mated to an Alpha's Hybrid daughter. He's also rooting for me to be her true mate, said we'd make great pups and rulers someday.

I highly doubt I'd even be a great ruler, it's not what I want, it's why I left my dad's place in the first place. Power is not what I want, I just want to have a family someday and that's it. Yeah I have my dad and mom and my grandparents and great grandparents now, but someday I want a family of my own but I'd never admit out loud.

If Davina wants to rule her people, I'd gladly support her role, and be there for her and stand by her, but I don't want to be any ones ruler. I don't want a lot of people depending on me to keep them safe, when I can't even keep my own mate safe.

Ryder had had enough of running, he was thirsty. He quickly pushed me forward giving me control. Drink for us. He panted in my head and laid down to rest again. I grabbed a couple of water bottles I brought down with me in my back pack. I sat on the ground and drank water, then I pulled out a energy bar and ate it.

As I was sitting there, my dad came join me, "Son, it's time to come eat now."

Frowning at the ground, "I already ate." I showed him the empty package of the energy bar I had in my hand.

"It's supper time, you've been at this all day. Time for you to relax a little, preserve your energy for tomorrow night's battle, as soon as we breach the territory you may teleport to your mates location." He said as he pressed the button for the elevator to take us up.

Supper time already? I've been down here that long? I guess I was gone longer than I thought. Sighing, I get up and grab my back pack and sling it over my shoulder and followed him in the elevator. He presses the button to our floor which is at the top. "So, what happened while I was away?" I asked.

"Well, Davina called, you left your cellphone on the counter, she has sent pictures of her mother and her father, I have yet to show the rest of the group, but I thought maybe you can show them."

"She called? I thought I had my cellphone." I said, reaching into my bag to check but it was not where I thought I put it. I sigh again and push my hair back. I must have zoned out completely without realizing. I was so consumed with thoughts of Davina and the fact that she was slowly dying.

After supper I was lying in my room getting ready for bed, feeling anxious about tomorrow night. Timothy announced that his soulmate Katherine will be here in the morning to prepare, and his mate Marianna was already here, she showed up with her daughter Sarah, my grandpa Richards twin sister. My father was very happy to see her and she couldn't stop smiling at my dad either, called him her favorite nephew. She loved my dad, just as much as my grandparents Richard and Freya. So, now Timothy and his mate Marianna and their Soulmate Katherine and his Beta Mark will be joining this fight. I even overheard Timothy talking to his dad Michael on the phone, Michael was the most feared and respected Vampire, he has been around for hundreds of years, and his dad, the First and oldest Immortal Vampire, the myth, the legend, Draco, I'm not too sure about his full name though, as he's had many names, but I know is real name is Draco, because Timothy told me about him Yesterday. His mother of course is a werewolf.

Anyway, Michael agreed for us to take him down immediately, if we fail, he'll come and do it himself. He has a hidden kingdom, but no one knows it's location.

The phone vibrated on the nightstand, I turned off the ringer earlier, so I can get some sleep. I answered it at once because I was still awake. "Yeah?"

"It's me, I have pictures of my dad, Zack, Alley and my other mom I'm sending them to you right now. That's the last of em. I gotta go to bed now, I have to train early tomorrow then shop for a-" She coughed on the phone, then a moment later I heard the phone get muffled, maybe she was holding it to her shirt or the bed or something. I could tell she was now in a non stop coughing fit, until she went quiet. I sat up straighter alarmed, "Davina! Davina!" I yelled into the phone, worried.

"Yeah, hello? Sorry about that, but I really do have to go to bed now." she says.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry." She says and I can tell she was lying though by her tone.

"Davina, I-" I tried the say.

"It's okay, I'll be fine, look, Hardin is waiting for me, I'll see you tomorrow or not." She hangs up before I got to say more.

I stare at the phone even more worried than I was before, but I push the feeling aside because I had a job to do. I quickly get off the bed and head for the living room to show the others the pictures. I only noticed Timothy sitting alone on the livingroom floor, the tv turned off and the lights were dim. I slowed my walking and walked around to face him. His eyes were closed and he was sitting crossed legged with his two palms facing upward and his index fingers touching is thumbs. Was he, meditating?

"Yes, I am meditating, you should try it one of these days." He says, surprising me for a second before I remember he can read minds. He opened his eyes and then used his vampire speed to sit on the couch and held his hand out to me. "Give me your phone, I'll take a look at the pictures."

I hand him my phone and sat beside him while he looked at the pictures carefully. "Hmm." He muttered, "This man looks familiar, what's his name?" He holds up the phone showing me a man with black hair, baby blue eyes like Davina's "My mate Davina's Dad Alrik Stark." I tell him. His eyebrows raise as he looks at the picture again, "Ah, yes I know him from somewhere but I can't place it. Hmm." He hands the phone back. "Hope you don't mind, but I sent the pictures to everyone else." He says and I look at him shocked, "When?" I asked. He waved his hand at me, "I must have been to fast for you, sorry."

"It's okay." I sigh.

"Your worried about your mate." He says

"Yeah, I shouldn't have never left her alone." I answer him, even though he didn't say it like a question.

"But she's not alone, she's with Hardin, her other mate. Besides, I wouldn't be here now if you didn't come to your father in the first place. If you stayed, you all would be still there. Look, don't feel bad for leaving her, I know it's hard even now with her slowly dying."

I looked at him then, "How is she slowing dying? How am I not getting effected from the mate bond?" I ask him, "It doesn't make any sense."

He nods, "It doesn't make sense because, it's unfair. You see, She has two mates that she needs to be marked from, which makes her weak the longer she goes without getting marked. As for you both, it makes you weak mentally, while it makes her weak physically, the difference is, if she had only one mate, she would be like you just mentally weak.. but since she has two that makes her mentally and physically weak, which is too much for her vampire side and werewolf side. I know because I went like that too, back when my mates and I didn't know what to do. We decided together was best when my heart began to beat slower and I couldn't get out of bed. Katherine and Marianna were the ones who made the decision to do it together at the same time and it worked, I got my strength back almost immediately, then I marked Marianna then Katherine, we were fully marked with eachother and right then and there, we felt different towards eachother and it made perfect sense, Marianna was my true mate, and Kathrine was my Soulmate."

"Yeah, but how does that work with Kathrine? Did she feel all the same things you felt as if true mates before the bond was in place?" I asked.

He smiled, "She did, she felt the pull towards me like I did her, but once marked, we realized that the love we had for eachother was as friends more like. She wasn't angry, nor was I, in fact we were both relieved, she was scared to have to spend the rest of her life fighting Marianna for my attention. She said, it was because I was both two beings at once was the only reason we were mates together and that together we became Immortal. Vampires get mates and they get Soulmates, hence why most vampires like Werewolves get Betas in their packs. So, that's what Katherine was like for me, on my Vampire side of me and my werewolf side she's my best friend. We are still a somewhat pack, but she wanted to explore the World with her mate, so I let her enjoy herself. She comes back as soon as things get out of hand, like this thing with Demetri, We all been keeping our eyes and ears out for this guy for years. He's been real good at hiding and with the information you gave us, made sense of how good he is at it. We were ment to meet you and I, we can learn a lot from eachother." He smiled at me again.

"But How will you learn from me? Especially when I know I can learn more from you because you've been alive for centuries." I say frowning at my hands confused.

He pushes my shoulder playfully, "Well, your the first Werewolf Warlock I have ever met with the long life I had. Your kind is new to me, same with your mate and her other mate, You three are the first Hybrids ever to be mated to another Hybrid. I'd like to stay for awhile if you don't mind after this battle is over with." I nodded.

"Well, I wouldn't stay here after it's over, most likely go back to my new home and new pack which is Davina's home." I tell him.

"Perfect, I prefer nature over the city life." He says.

Frowning, I look at him, "How'd you know we live in nature?"

"Well, you did say your mate lived in the country, the country is nature, plus I see her home when you think of it, and I've been there before remember?" he says smirking.

"Oh right." Man I was confused, must be the mate bond.

"It's been effecting you since you found her, it won't stop until your marked." He says.

"What will stop effecting me?" I ask him confused yet again.

He chuckled, "Your confusion is part of not being marked by your mate, as soon as we breach, your mission, should be to find her as soon as possible and find Hardin, mark her at the same time Jake, don't hesitate, you'll see, you'll be okay once you find eachother."

I sighed, "Okay."

"You better get some sleep, your going to need your rest of you want your magical energy to work properly tomorrow, can't be tired tomorrow. Sleep in, we don't leave until 3 pm tomorrow anyway." He sits back on the floor I to his meditation position.

"What about you?" I ask.

"I will sleep once my mind is calm, it's hard dealing with everyone's thoughts all day. I'm shutting everyone out while I meditate so I can sleep, my mind will be zoned out until I want to read minds again." He says.

"Hmm." I scratched my head, he sure is and interesting guy, if we didn't have to go to battle tomorrow I could stay up longer talking to him.

"Goodnight Jake, I like talking to you great grandson." He shuts his eyes and I can hear him take in a breath.

"Night." I say and walk to my room and I swear I fell asleep before my head hit the pillow, I was exhausted and my wolf was sleeping before me already.

Davina P.O.V

I woke up hours ago, fully rested, despite the fact that I was coughing up more blood yesterday. My body was drained and so was my wolf. Today I had to put up an act. I had to pretend like I was fine, it would be hard to do, but as long as I kept getting blood, I was getting energy from it shouldn't be too hard to manage. Blood had become my new lifeline, without it, I grew weaker. So, this morning I drank from two humans, so I had enough energy to spare with a partner, I chose Derek to go with, because Derek already knew my fighting pattern, and he had a way to make me look stronger than him. Hardin was busy sparring with another vampire, both going at inhuman speed. Some of their moves were hard for the human eye, but I was able to see the moves they both made. Hardin, was a bit faster and stronger, this was his 3rd challenger. I can tell though, he was holding himself back, by the way he mostly kept up his defence. He could probably kill the vampire he was training with.

I look over to the other side of the stage platform where he was fighting on top while others stood by on the sidelines watching. I noticed a few vampire women were ogling him and some were licking their lips and some gasp when he beat the 3rd guy. All the vampire women were impressed. I narrow my eyes at them and Derek connected a shot to my face.

"Focus Davy." Derek says.

Making me growl annoyed that he caught me off guard, "Don't call me that!" I growled and swung at him as he dodged laughing, which made me angry. I lunge for him, but he wasn't the one who wasn't focused he grab me around my waist and slammed me on the matt. I tap, "Okay! I give!" I yell.

He chuckled and handed me a bottle of water and I looked over to where Hardin was and there was this blonde girl standing in front of him, talking to him grinning and twirling her hair in her finger as she reached and glide her perfect manicured hand up his arm. I looked at him, he smirked at her saying something and backing up from her outstretched hand and he bumped into another girl that wanted to talk to him, while the blonde rolled her eyes.

I narrowed my eyes starring at mostly him, how he treats the girls to see if he touches them back, I've seen this too many times with him growing up going to school with him for years to even get jealous enough to growl. I know I have to hide my wolf, but his reaction to them is what would set me off. So far he was not letting them touch him too long or was not looking at them the way they were eye f***king him right now. He was being genuinely nice, the way he always was with everyone. Then, he looks over at me and waves, giving me his beautiful smile with the one dimple on his left cheek. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms annoyed, with the girls all around him.

Relax, it's not them I care about. Hardin says

I look at him, he was closing his eyes while drinking water to hide the mind link between us. Sure, I know for a fact Hardin always loved the attention of other people, it's why he was so popular, can't believe he's also popular here and he has t even been on this side with us that long, even the guys he fought against were asking him for tips on fighting and he was showing them moves they can try.

"Are you just going to stand there glaring at Hardin the rest of training? Or are you actually going to spar or combat with someone again?" Derek asked pushing the back of my knee with his foot almost making me fall on my a**. I glare at him and pushed his shoulder, "Jerk!"

He laughed, "Well, what's it going to be?"

I winked at him, "Hardin! Bet you can't take me on!" I yell at Hardin while some of the girls pout as he gave me full attention grinning.

"You sure about that?" He yells back.

"Come find out!" I challenged.

He grinned even wider, rubbing his hands together he jumps off that platform and heads over to me, "Alright, let's go." The girls glared at me but I ignored them only smiling at Hardin.

I put my fists up for ready in my fighting stance as he gets in with me getting into his fighting stance. He walks around me slowly and I him, neither making a first move. He lunges at me and I jump back but he was only testing me, then he reaches out with his hand pretending to try grab me, making me jump back again. I shake my head at him smiling. He smirks at me then, He does this spin with using his speed and crouched real low on the ground his leg outstretched knocking into my feet and I quickly jump over them in time, while he gets his composer back. "Nice try." I smirk.

I put my hands out in front of me palms up and bending my fingers repeatedly, "Come at me, quit playing."

He narrows his eyes and hair like that we were kicking and swinging at eachother, at the same time dodging eachother. To the spectators watching, we probably looked like we were dancing. Hardin shook his head, "Your fast."

I smirk and gave him a quick jab to the face, he didn't see coming because I made like I was going to kick but I spun around and punched him. He grabs his jaw and grins. Then he really went for it. I punched me in the stomach, my breath leaving me in a huff, at the same time I hit him in the face then kneed him in the face. Then I jumped onto his back wrapping my legs around his waist and putting him in a neck lock with my arms, but then he slammed on me hitting the matt backwards throwing his entire weight on me, causing me to let go. He spun around between my legs, trying to lock me in place but I kicked him in the face and jumped back onto my feet quckily a d not even waiting for him to get back on his feet, I I jumped and double kicked him landing on my hands and pushing myself off the matt using my arms and getting back on my feet again using my vampire speed, then landing more kicks on him as he tries to get up from me making him fly from me through the air. Then surprising me, he grabbed my ankle and pulled me toward him giving me an uppercut to my ribs but I blocked it just in time, I twist my ankle away from him and punched him in the face again. Then I somehow put him into another lock by grabbing his arm and twisting it and keeping his arm held between my legs and then he taps out his face going red.

Then the people cheered and I let him go laughing. "Damn, your real fast you little s**t." He gasped out after I let home go. We both get up and shake hands and he grabs my hands and we both bow together while everyone cheers. Surprising me yet again, he pulls me into his arms and kisses me in front of everyone. I go stiff at first, then I remembered I wasn't pretending to be in a relationship with Derek anymore. I wrap my arms around his neck and brushed my hands through his bronze hair. I heard a few surprised gasps in the crowd and also some men began whistling at us.

He looks at me, without even glancing at our audience, "I love you, Davina." He whispered against my lips.

"I love you too Hardin." I kissed him again. I need blood, I feel weak again. I mind link him.

Alright, let's go inside and I'll get them for you. He says.

I kissed him one more time making him chuckle and we walked off the platform hand in hand. "We're done for the day if that's okay with you."

Derek smiling at us both, "Sure go ahead, you both did great today." He gestured toward the Mansion with his head and went back to training his men.

We went inside and I had a human waiting for me already and I drank then Hardin and I had a quick shower. "I wish I can be with you for the whole time we go to the ball." Hardin says as he dries himself off from the shower.

I walk into the walk in closet and say, "Yeah I know but I'll be fine I'll stick with Aria." I try reassure him.

"Okay." He says but I can tell he didn't like the idea at all of me not leaving the same time he has to leave. Believe me, I wish I can leave early as well but Derek is right, Demetri would be expecting me to stick around for extra protection.

Hours later Aria asked her witch friend Becky to come do up our make up, Aria and I had to be dressed up while the guys remain in combat uniforms. After Becky did my make up, Aria went straight to pinning up my hair in a half up do with four French braids going around in a neat messy bun, she let some curls go loose at the side of my face and ears while the rest of my curls fell loose behind me going down my lower back. I then, picked up my dress and headed to my washroom to get changed while Becky does my mom's hair.

I quickly put on my dress in the bathroom and looked my self over in the mirror. Becky did a great job on my make up, better than I ever did. She brought out my light blue eye color, and .y pink rosy cheeks, and my lips were Scarlett red, I looked beautiful compared to how I looked this morning with dark shadows under my eyes, and pale skin with chappy lips. It is amazing what make up can do. My hair was half way up with a loose bun in the middle with the rest of my long black curls hanging loose. My cleavage was showing a lot in the dress. It was a light pink with purple looking sparkles all over it, the sleeves were hanging past my shoulders frilled to my elbows, the dress was fitted to me perfectly showing my curvy waist and the bottom half was flowy going up to my ankles, I quickly strap on my light pink heels my mom bought me. I twirled around once, loving the feel of the dress as it flowed freely around me spreading out as I spun. I walk out and my mom Aria was all ready dressed and ready. She had on a dark blue sparkly dress that had spaghetti straps on it showing a bit of her cleavage, and it went down above her knees with slits on either side of her legs, then she had on Dark blue pumps with straps crisscrossing up to below her knees. She looked gorgeous with all her hair in a neatly curled updo with some curls hanging loose at the sides like mine. I smile and hug her then she surprised me by getting on her knees in front of me. My heart hammered in my chest, not knowing what she was doing.

"Relax, Davina, I'm just placing a weapon like mine on." She pulled out a garner like stealth with a blade in it, she lifted my foot and slipped it up my legs securing it to my thigh, hidden under my dress. "See now we all have one." She pulled up her dress but hers was up higher than mine, and Becky giggled showing me hers as well. Becky had all her hair braided on either side meeting in the middle with a beautiful bum and a purple flower head band going around the back of her head. She had on a purple sparkly dress that was strapless ball gown. She was also very gorgeous with big brown eyes and blonde hair.

There was a knock at the door as I reached it to open it to find Derek there, he gave me a small sided hug and kisses my forehead and looked passed my shoulder to our mom, "We're ready let's go, Davina have a drink of the human and then we'll leave."

We all nodded and followed him out. I stopped in the livingroom where Hardin was busy putting a weapon away in one of his pant legs. He looked up at me, his eyebrows go up and his mouth hangs open before his lips go up into a smile. Looking me over once more, he pulls me to him, and we hold eachother for a moment, knowing it may be the last time we hold eachother. We weren't sure if we will win or if I would die before the night ends. I cling to him, breathing in his scent as much as I could before we separated possibly forever and my heart ached for us and then also a loneliness seeps in overwhelming me, that Jake wasn't here too. I swallowed a shaky breath letting him go. I quickly drank from the human and we all left in silence towards Demetri's Mansion.
