Chapter 16
“Thanks for the ride,” Jax said to Layla as he got out of her car. He’d felt bad asking to borrow the car again, and asked for a ride instead. He could figure out a way home, and if he had to, he’d walk. It would be a bit of a hike, and his leg probably wasn’t up for it, but he’d managed through worse.
Chase’s truck was in the parking lot of the firehouse like Layla said it would be. Jax figured if he was going to repair the damage between his siblings, he would need to be the one to put the effort in. Chase was an easier bet. He still hadn’t seen Brooke since that day in the kitchen. She’d been spending a lot of time at her boyfriend’s house.
He heard Chase joking around and followed the sound of his voice.
“What are you doing here?”
