TWENTY-TWO McCall had gone through Williams' file and still couldn't figure out how a career criminal had become so stupid and gotten caught. What also made no sense was the killing of the undercover cop. This took place in Battery Park, and Williams both lived and worked near Central Park North at the time; so why was he there? The case itself was open and shut, and the prosecution had all the evidence – a couple of witnesses, fibres, ballistics. All roads led to Williams.
