Calista feels drawn to Adrian. She doesn't know anything about him but yet feel as if they have met before. She always goes out of her way to talk to him and they eventually become friends. Adrian is cautious though and tries to avoid intimacy with Calista. Why does Adrian leave suddenly? Adrian is a merfolk, in line to inherit the house of his father, a minor but very influential royal. He is sent to live in a human village to stay safe until his 21st birthday, when he turns of age. How does Calista find her grandfather's map? Calista finds a map in the pocket of Aidan's jacket, the one he lends her to keep her warm the night before he left, as they sat chatting outside till late in the night. The map has a message on it which reads: In the depths lies destiny's treasure. How does the voyage pan out? Calista follows the map to a remote seaside village. There she meets Seal, who she engages to be her boat guide and bring her to the last stop on the map, after many other boat guides refuse, stating there is nothing but rough seas around that location. The two discover there is a strong pull between them over the 12 days of the voyage. Why does Seal take on the voyage? Seal is a merfolk and recognises various merfolk symbols on the map. He knows of the story of Jupiter, the merfolk king, who mated with a human, Meresa, who did not develop the ability to survive below the ocean. Meresa and her child could not join Jupiter and so had to live on land, where Jupiter could only brief periods with them. Stories have it that Jupiter and Meresa's child did not have merfolk abilities and Jupiter had to take a merfolk mate to carry on his lineage.
