Ch. 5

Walking to the starting line I saw one of those arrogant Alpha pups. 'Vomit in my mouth' the way those she-wolves threw themselves on him in hopes of becoming his chosen Luna. Asher looks up from his fawning she-wolf and smugly smiles at me. "Well, well, well. If it isn't the 'Special Case' Alpha Jeremy and Luna Jasmine picked up in the woods." His friends snickered at me, taunting me with words that were fact. I, indeed was found by them and it wasn't the woods but a field. So, he was kinda close to the facts of the truth. "Oh, gosh. Goddess Bless me." I say turning towards him, flaunting my fan-girl voice to him. "The mighty Alpha Asher is speaking to me! OMG! So, exciting." I lay it on thick with my best high-pitched pitched annoying voice. Memphis whips his head over, watching me strangely. Pressing his lips tightly together like he was withholding a laugh. "Oh, please, big strong Alpha Asher, please be easy on me. I am but, a weak female who needs constant reassurance from a big strong male wolf like you." I run my hand along his arm, up to his shoulders. His body tenses at my touch, his eyes never leaving mine as I make my way around him seductively. "Does it hurt?" I ask him leaning in forward to him. "hmmm? Hurt? What hurt?" He blinks at me. "Just wondering if it hurts to suck that badly? Ya know, always ending in last place. Man, no wonder Daddy isn't here to watch you fail." I tell him with my normal voice smiling at him as I walk to my place at the ready line pretending to look for the Alpha and Luna of Lilac Falls. 'You're so mean Freya. He's so mad at you.' I openly ignore SolSkin's peanut gallery commentary. "Gosh Frey, you're such a btch!" the girl next to Alpha yells at me. "Oh? How so? I too was also stating facts. Like what Asher just stated about me and my facts. I was just returning the favor to him." I let that little pathetic she-wolf know her place. The loud boisterous laughing of Memphis and his brother was hard to ignore. 'Racers take you places.' boomed the announcer. Asher leans forward looking at me and hisses, "You will learn your place." BANG sounded the field gun and we were off. The course itself is 20 miles along the Lilac Falls borders. Rugged mountain terrain, forests, rivers, and fields. 'SolSkin, be on high alert.' It's been a relatively quiet run, just runners and nature. We had about eight more miles before reaching the finish line. The sound of the forest went quiet, no tweeting of birds, the munching of acorns from the squirrels, no pecking from the woodpecker. Just eerie silence. The overwhelming smell of smoke and burning flesh filled my nose. 'Joce, Dylan Rouges!' I send off in my mind. Also abling to double tap on my watch to tell my Beta there were Rouges so he was aware of the situation and to bring reinforcements ASAP. Right after I hit send a rather large mangey mutt slams into Rachel's teammate Richard. Unfortunately for the kid, Rachel is a front-runner and left him long ago on his own. He's a pleasant kid who is in the Advanced Learning Program. So, even though he is a Junior he is still 15 and hasn't had the luck of meeting his wolf yet. Making him an excellent target for the rouges. His yelp in pain had Jocelyn shift in mid-stride to his defense. Jocelyn is a senior and is the eldest of six, she is naturally protective. Her wolf Cecilla was not one to cross when protecting pups. She goes a bit feral when it comes to youngsters. She is a very good big sister. Cecilla made short work of the rouge who attacked poor Richard. Once she got his neck in her jaws she shook him like he was a heavily powdered protein shake, snapping his neck. We all froze when we heard Coach Daniels' howl. Fear prickled across my skin. Julie, June, and Jade, Jocelyn's younger sisters were back with Coach. What if the rouges were there too? I looked right at Cecilla and knew. "GO!!" I shouted to her. Her wolf took off to where her sisters were. "Dylan! Go with her!" His wolf nodded to me and took off after her. Four more rouges emerged from the tree line. "After them." A sleazy man said to his three companions. I stepped forward making sure Richard was safely behind me. The scent of these men triggered a buried memory of my dark past. I couldn't think about it for too long as one of the men took a swing at me. Three-on-one hardly seemed fair. They kept trying to get to Richard, poor kid. 'SolSkin, should we shift?' It would be much easier to kill them in my wolf form. SolSkin is a huge formidable wolf. Much larger than werewolves, she is even bigger than many alphas including her dad's wolf Cedric. 'No. It is not safe to shift here. But, I will lend you my strength and speed.' While successfully dodging these men, Major (Maverick's wolf) came to my aid with his twin brother Maximus. I ordered them to remove Richard from the fighting and to safety. At first, they were reluctant but I out ranked them and an order on the field from your superiors they must follow. The men I was fighting/evading were becoming increasingly frustrated that they couldn't land a blow on me. I spartan kicked one in the chest and he went flying only to be stopped mid-flight by a sturdy solid white pine tree trunk. There was a sickening crunch of his spine being broken with that hit. The man issuing the commands twisted towards me, his face contorted into a malevolent grin, before transforming into a scruffy, wild-looking wolf and leaping at me, claws outstretched. Boy did he get me good. He swiped his paw and caught me by the inner part of my thigh, tearing flesh and muscle. "Stupid little girl. Such a shame a pretty thing like you has to die." He laughed menacingly.SolSkin was exerting all her efforts to mend my wounds. However, the injury was quite deep, and the blood loss was alarmingly rapid. His claws had inadvertently nicked an artery, causing the healing process to be significantly prolonged. "Hold her down!" barked the order giver. His three men held me down while I did my best to fight them off. The order giver shifted back and smiled a sickening smile. "I will have you first, then my men. Only when we are satisfied then you shall die."I screamed in terror, my voice echoing through the darkness as I thrashed about, desperate to break free. But my efforts were futile, as I was suddenly struck in the face, the impact sending my vision reeling into darkness. As I struggled to regain my senses, a menacing growl rumbled from above, filling me with a deep sense of dread.
