Thoughts struck Felicia like lightning bolts. Something had gone wrong. This wasn’t something she had expected. But her calculating assumptions were broken off when a loud shriek was heard clearly making her quickly cover her red ears.
“You’re back!” Her voice broke the awkward silence in the room. I smiled, letting my guard down. “Yes, yes I am, mother.” As the words left her mouth, a stream of tears trickled down her white skin. Her mother slightly became alarmed and quietly asked, “Was I too loud?” Like a little child just waiting to be given further instructions, she curiously looked at Felicia. “No, it’s nothing.” Her mother, her dearest mother, was the most precious in this world for her.
Yet she was mentally broken down when her husband lost his life in the army. Her family was quite rich, with her and her sister to be the inheritors. Although her mother didn’t bear sons, she had acquired two beautiful daughters who were both intelligent and graceful. But, the incident with her father had left her personality like that of a teenager who was still head over heels with her boyfriend. She sighed and looked at her sister who was about to jump down from the second floor.
“Try the stairs for once, would you?” As Felicia was speaking in a monotone, it only added more sarcasm to her town and soon the house was filled with warm laughter. As it started dying down, her mother, Eliza, clasped her hands, and asked in a more serious tone, “My dearest, you must make sure the company rises back to its feet. Of course, if you wish to leave it, there’s no harm in doing so. Whatever you do, I will support it.” Felicia was surprised at her mature tone, which only came if needed.
“Alright, now go to bed, we will go shopping tomorrow. Don’t worry, it will be a shopping spree. You can buy whatever you want.” Felicia said. Her mother’s expression lightened up, “Yes ma’am, I will listen to your instruction.” With a chuckle and some signs to her friend, Mara was gradually leading her mother to her bedroom.
Felicia patted her and with one last look, she led Ezerette to her dad’s former office. Officially, it was hers after all. Both girls sat, one elegantly refined and the other a wild beauty. They were opposites, but still very close.
“So, sis what’re we doin’?” Getting down to business was her ideal quality, and Felicia had no prejudices against that. “Well, I was thinking you could take over, but judging by your tone it seems that won’t be happening.” Ezerette smiled without holding back and gave Felicia a thumbs up. “It seems like we must leave it to others. Fine then, I have no problem with that. I will sell our shares above the market price, and it looks like it should work out. And…..” She hesitated and looked reluctantly at her sister. “And? And what?” Ezerette questioned, encouraging her to go on. She took a deep breath and said, “I hope you can let me join the ranks for a while.”
For a minute, everything fell into a deep silence. Then she looked at her older sister and burst laughing, holding her stomach and drying her tears. Felicia looked at her with a confused expression and asked, “So, what’s wrong with that?”
“Nothing, absolutely nothing. Felicia, you can sometimes be so dumb.”
“Why?”
“You know why! Do you have any idea how much you’re looked up to? As a top-notch fighter, do you even have to ask me?! ” The younger of the two exclaimed, with laughter written all over her face. Once she calmed she explained slowly and said, “Fine, but right now I can only give you one unit to command and that’s them…….” She trailed off and looked at the picture that was framed tightly next to the office seat. It had a bunch of teenage kids that were goofing around and someone was yelling at them to stay in line.
“Don’t worry, you won’t be dealing with kiddies, right now they should be about your age, so that’s why. They’re pretty hard to control and every instructor’s quit within a week. So, if you’re okay with them, I will inform them now and you can start in two days.” Ezerette explained and stood up.
Felicia did the same and both immediately headed to their rooms, knowing full well what they were doing. While the eldest was packing, the younger one made phone calls to lay out the groundwork. As soon as they were finished, they headed to their rooms and slumped right into it. They were very tired today, and soon their eyelids grew heavy, telling them to sleep.
Ezerette P.O.V
The next morning, we slept in since we had nothing better to do, but life rarely goes the way you plan it. Soon, there was banging on my door, telling me to come to breakfast. It was my student. I groaned in my sleep and told her to go away. Only then did the silence came. At first, my mind drifted off to peaceful dreams, but as it got even quieter, something struck me and I jumped out of bed. Oh no, please don’t let me be late! But obviously my pleas didn’t work.
Soon my poor door was being ripped out of its locks, holds, and the rest of the house. Debris filled the room and I coughed slightly, tears filling my eyes as I turned the other way. When it began clearing up, I saw a familiar figure smiling her usual smile. I gritted my teeth and dived straight for her, aiming for her neck. Of course, she dodged it with a spin gracefully. But I wasn’t giving up.
I headed straight for her again and she jumped from behind me, holding me by my hands, tightening her grip by the second. I winced and tapped quickly, “Surrender! I surrender sis! Let me go now, please!”
As soon as she heard my pleas, she softened and let go. “Breakfast’s on the table, eat and then we’re taking mother shopping.” She said, twirling on her feet like the lady she was, and I snorted. Soon all of us were eating, including that student of mine, who snitched on me. I glared at her intensely the entire time we were eating and swore to myself I won’t let her off the hook easily.
I was glaring at her and signalled that i won't be letting her go easily, while on the other hand, my sister was peacefully ignoring the scene that was unfolding. But, instead of being afraid of me, she stuck her tongue at me and hugged my sister’s arm tightly who was just ignoring the whole scene. At first, I became even angrier and was to beat her a*s when mum stopped me. Although she had gotten brain damage, her strength had remained there. “Sit down, we’re eating.” She smiled her usual smile which always freaked me out and sends chills down my bones.
As soon as we were done, we headed downtown and to the shopping centre. The place was bustling and we enjoyed our trip to the fullest. As Felicia, Mara, me, mum, and my student, were about to head into another shop, we had the most surprising encounter.
