Derek hated seeing the confused look on Laurelynn’s face as they rode back toward the Kahn’s house and the people waiting there for them. He didn’t know what was going to happen, or how he was going to explain to her how they ended up out looking for her, but he knew it had to be done. He watched her for most of the trip, noticing how the early morning light seemed to make her eyelashes glow around her eyes, making the gold of her eyes stand out even more than they normally did.
