Revenge of the fallen

The first day

I couldn't sleep after that beautiful and confusing dream. Lilly was surprised to see me wide awake when she came back. She was all smiles and joy today. "Guess what happened?" She sat on her side of the bed facing me sideways.

"I don't wanna guess! I want you to tell me what happened so that I can enjoy your dramatic explanation" I really didn't want to be a spoiler, so I let her speak her little adventure.

"I wanted to make my resignation a bit dramatic, so, l entered the bar as usual and started my work. The d**k head came to me as usual with a list of s**t he wanted me to do for the shift apart from the regular job and I said 'Sorry, but if you wanna get extra job done, you should pay me extra.' He was shocked but immediately came up with his regular threats of kicking me out if I dare refuse anything he said and he was in charge and bleh bleh bleh!!! I dared him to fire me!! That was shocking for him. He left immediately and didn't show up till end of the shift. I guess he never wanted to fire me, it was just that the asshole enjoyed being a d**k to me because he knew I was desperate to have the job. But I went to him after the shift and I said am done taking s**t from you and I wont be coming from tomorrow. He immediately called Alex from accounts and asked for settlement. But when I was leaving he told me that I'll be missed, I was surprised to hear that from him, but who cares! Am out of that hell hole now!"

"Wow!!! So, you enjoyed your last day at work?"

"Yes, I enjoyed a lot and while leaving Emili gave me a bottle of Champagne which we will be enjoying tonight once you are done with an amazing first day at work!"

Shit! That reminded me that I have to be in Moonlight Coffee Shop by 9 AM. I checked the time, it was already 8:30. I rushed towards the washroom and got ready in ten minutes. Meanwhile Lilly prepared breakfast as usual and I left with a piece of bread as usual.

The climate was pretty pleasant and I had a positive feeling about the day ahead. Soon as I entered Moonlight Coffee Shop, I saw Paul at the cash counter and Shoba talking to someone over phone.

"Good morning!" Both of them looked at me. Shoba gave me her usual smile and pointed towards Paul for something. Paul's expression was difficult, I couldn't read him. Paul asked me to follow him to the office room. He handed me a plastic package, "This is your uniform. I hope the size be perfect. If it isn't we can get it altered tomorrow." He looked at me intensely and continued "Can I ask you something?"

Suddenly I felt uncomfortable. What's the matter? Is it because yesterday Shoba asked me not to flirt during work hours? Does he think I am hitting on him? s**t!! What an i***t!! I mean he is cute, but I sure wasn't hitting on him. He was looking at me expectantly. I nodded my head with a yes where in my heart and mind were screaming NO NO NO!! DON'T ASK ME ANYTHING, I WASN'T FLIRTING WITH YOU!!

Paul was still looking at me with a confused expression, "Why did you call me Paulo yesterday?"

I was so relieved!!! Wait, what!! He is bothered why I called him Paulo!!! "I.... I don't know. It just came out......... I think Paulo suits you better than Paula....." s**t!! I didn't know why I said that! Paul looked at me totally confused and his expressions clearly said that something was really bothering him. "I am sorry, I don't know why I said that! It's all coming in a flow, I am sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect you!" Paul just walked out of the office room.

I stood confused. Have I screwed up my first job the first day before even starting the shift? Lilly left her job relying on me, what will I do if something goes wrong? My thoughts were all over the place when Shoba opened the door and entered. She didn't have her regular charming smile this time.
