I had finished the work for the day, got my bag and was ready to leave when I got a text. Since the accident, I have been lodging in a shitty motel and needed a place of my own. The agent informed me to visit for inspection, I almost leaped for joy because this was the house I really wanted. I was almost out the door when I bumped into a figure, rubbing my fingers against my head, I looked up to see… “Melvin” I called out. His face pulls up in a smirk as he looked down at me, “ You remember my name, I guess I left quite a good first impression” he said. Has he always been this flirty or he just picked that up as he grew older. “Well, what brings you here?” I changed the subject, trying to divert him from how I could still remember his name. “You forgot your wallet after you left the hotel” his face was firm when he spoke. Making me think he was pissed that I left like that. “My wallet!, I have been searching for it everywhere” I reached for it but he just pulled back. “I didn’t come all the way here for you to just snatch it from me” He leaned closer. He looked even more dashing than he did that night. I should have known he would use the wallet as an excuse to come see me, otherwise he would have dropped it at the counter with the receptionist, rather than wait until closing time for him to be here. “Why are you here then?” I folded my arms. “I’m here to ask you out on a date?” He blurted out. I grabbed my wallet from his grasp and walked out the door, however, he followed carefully behind me. “Is that what you do, ask random strangers out on a date?” I insinuated, He let out a little laugh, “But we have already met, you no longer identify as a stranger to me” he responded. There I was standing with my high school crush, the little girl in me would be screaming for joy. I guess I really have changed. “I’m sorry, but like I said, I am not interested” I answered then moved a few distance away from him. I waited for about 3 minutes for a taxi but there was nothing, like the universe was against me. I knew I needed to avoid him, I needed anything to get me out of there, even a horse would do. He stood casually behind me, his right hand in his pocket, I could feel him staring, the hairs on my neck were on high alert. A car pulls up in front of me, a black suv to be precise, i watched him walk right past me and opened the door, “Get in” he ordered. Yet I just stood there. Luckily for me, Gaston had left early otherwise the thought of Melvin being caught by Gaston would be a rip in my plans. Afterall they knew each other. “I will just get a taxi” I refused. “Please” he said calmly. It took me another minute before I finally agreed and got in the car. The ride was quiet until we arrived at my destination. I had expected him to insist about the date but he didn’t say a word. I don’t know if disappointment was showing all over my face but I was certain it was visible. “Thank you for dropping me off” I said blankly. “Diana” he called my name before I could get to the handle of the door. “Yes” I answered, maybe I little too hasty. “Is it okay if I take you out for dinner?” He requested again. I swallowed, I really want to spend time with him, he was someone I had dreamed of being with since high school. Being in the same space with him made my heart skip even after all these years. I never anticipated he would still have that effect when we barely even talked since after high school. “I’m sorry but I have to decline your offer” I said. His countenance changed, expecting an explanation from me yet there was none. “And I would like it if you don’t come to my work place anymore” I added to make myself clear. He stayed quiet without saying a word as I stepped out of the car. Until I make Gaston and Rebecca’s pay for what they did to me, I will not rest neither would I accept any distraction. Melvin was one and i needed to stay away from. I found the agent waiting for me by the door, an average woman in her mid forties, she had a smile on her face, the moment she saw me. After we toured the apartment one more time, I concluded that I wanted it. “I am glad you love the house, you can start by sending the deposit” she calmly said. I admired the city view from the window, several lights brimming to life, making way for the darknesss of the night. “There is a little problem” I bit my bottom lip. “What’s wrong dear?” She asked. “I don’t have 4 million up front,” I explained, staring at my account, that was all I had left. If I spent all that on the apartment, I would be left with no money to take care of myself. I had gone from being rich into being broke, I needed to start my plan and rip my money out of Gaston’s hands. “Well, what do you have?” She questioned. She seemed like a sweet lady but I couldn’t say the same for the house owner. “I have 3.5” “Oh dear” she whispered, I could feel the dread in her voice. Was I going to lose the house, I couldn’t go back to living in that run down hotel neither do I wish to be lodging with my cousin Rheagar, he had strange needs as a man and I couldn’t deal with that. “Let me make a quick call” she says, then walked to the kitchen, while I stood by the window waiting and praying that I got the apartment. After some minutes, she was back, “Congratulations Miss, the owner has agreed to let you rent the house. I will send the details for you to pay. When do you intend to move in?” “Hopefully by tomorrow” I answered. “Beautiful” she searched through her bag for a pen and brought a couple of papers for me to sign. Once she was done, she gave me the keys and I followed her to the door. Right outside was the black SUV, I had expected him to be gone by now but he hadn’t left. I wasn’t going to change my mind. I waved the woman bye and stayed to clean up before I began moving. Once I was done, my phone rang. I picked it up to see a text from a strange number, “Let meet or I will expose your secret” it stated. At the bottom was Mrs Rebecca Gomez.
