Chapter 3 - Uninvited guests

"So.. is someone going to tell me who you all are and what you're doing in my grandfather's house? Or am I going to have to continue using this thing?" Ryan demanded, wiggling the candelabra in reference to her newly found weapon, which she might have been welding a bit too overconfidently. Madi stood up and started dusting herself off, clearly unfazed by the weapon that had knocked her off of her feet. She walked over to where the other two strangers were standing and folded her arms. "Ryan, calm down, we are not your enemy. We were...friends of your grandfather" Ryan narrowed her eyes as she noticed the obvious pause on the description of their relationship with her grandfather. As far as the stories go that her mother told her, her grandfather didn't have any friends, he was too busy, always cooped up in this study, reading and doing research. "As previously mentioned, I'm Madi and this if Finn. The girl behind Finn is his ma...girlfriend, Genna." Madi gestured to the smaller female that Finn was standing protectively in front of, she looked a little younger than Finn, probably about 17. She had red curly hair, cut in a bob and her face was sprinkled with freckles. She was dressed the same as the other two, in all black, but didn't look as athletic as the other two. Finn, on the other hand, was tall and lean, well built for his age. He had short brown hair and his dark brown eyes complemented his caramel skin. He didn't look very friendly. "We used to visit Marcus Grimm often, he had opened his home and the resources of knowledge to us." Madi stepped closer to Ryan, speaking softer. "Ryan, your grandfather was an important man to our...community, he saved many lives with his vast knowledge. He, too, was the only one who could open the Relic Book, just like you did." Ryan lowered her candelabra weapon with an unsteady arm, only now realizing how weak she felt. She ran a shaky hand through her hair as she leaned against the oak desk. "Ryan, surely your mother told you, about the life Marcus lived? Surly you remember certain details from your childhood here, when you would come visit Marcus?" Finn said, soundly slightly worried at Ryan's confused expression. "All I remember was that my grandfather had no time for us, that he deserted us shortly after my father did. I remember how I stood alone, in the rain as I buried my mother, my grandfather nowhere to be seen. That is what I remember, a shadow of a man." Just as Genne was about to speak, a ear shattering howl was heard, in the near distance. "Rouges..." Madi said as Finn visibly tightened his grip on Genna's hand. "Ryan, listen to me, you are in a lot of danger here. By opening the Relic Book, you emitted a shock wave signal, and a lot of really bad people are looking for that book as well as it's barer." Madi said, looking extremely worried and slightly frightened. "Madi... we are running out of time...." Finn growled through his teeth. "Shut up Finn, I know!" Madi sound panicked now, as the thunder of distant footsteps could be heard, as if a large group of people were running towards the house. "Listen, Ryan.." Madi placed both hands on her shoulders " I know this is a lot to take in right now, but we really are the good guys and you have to come with us, we need to keep both you and that book safe. If you come with us, I promise that everything will be revealed to you." Ryan looked up at Madi and nodded, but as soon as she got to her feet, she collapsed. "She must be too weak after her encounter with the Relic Book" Genna said, as she placed a gentle hand of Ryan's forehead. Finn picked Ryan up and threw her over his shoulders, like a sack of potatoes. "it's fine, I'll carry her, but we need to move fast, we are no where near equipped enough to face down a group of Rouges" Finn said while heading to the door. "Careful Finny, you could hurt her" Genna pleaded as Finn adjusted the way in which he carried Ryan. Madi grabbed the Relic Book off the table before the three of them ran out the back door and off into the forest. In the distance, the three could hear the howls of angry Rouge warriors They must have come across the manor, only to find that it no longer held the Relic book or its welder.
