Chapter 6 - Stupid Decisions

Paige P.O.V

Pulling into work today I am feeling so much better than yesterday. I get through the double doors and start walking through to the Elevator. I see Mr Dodd go in and I'm so close now that I shout for him to hold the door as I start hobbling faster with the crutch. I should or known better, when all he does is grins at me and let's the doors close. What an Arsehole I say as I wait for the elevator to come back down. I get into the elevator and turn to see Declan come through the door, I hold the doors for him and once he noticed he jogged forward into the elevator.

"thanks Paige" he says as he grabs his brief case. I look at him and see he is now in his business clothes today. I gulp at how handsome he is.

"No problems, I nearly got the elevator earlier but your father thought it was funny to ignore me and smile as the doors close" I say with a little bitterness.

Declan looks shocked "what's wrong with the man" he says.

"I wouldn't worry im glad now" I say out loud instead of in my head. I could slap myself sometimes.

Declan gives a side smirk "oh yer why's that then "

I then think of something to save myself "because I don't really want to see him seems I caught him in the act last night" I say awkwardly

"oh yes that" with that his smile has gone.

The lift stops at our floor and we get out and start walking. He asks me why his dad has an issue with me and am I sure it's just me getting the special treatment.

I stop and look at him "I am so very sure but don't worry about it . .I'm not" I walk off to my desk my foot is throbbing telling me I have been on it far too long and just can't wait to sit down.

I start logging in and checking my email as I see Declan walk past we lock eyes as he smiles but continues to his office. I shake thoughts out of my head I can't like this man for many reasons. The first reason is he won't like me for the way I am, then there is the fact that he lives in Edinburgh. Then there is oh yer the fact that he is Mr Dodds son that is enough to make me stay away.

Gemma comes in smiling and puts her bag on the table. I look up and see she has a coffee for me, I thank her and then she can't wait to tell me how her date went.

"he was the perfect gentleman and a freak in the sheets I think I have found my one!" she says clapping as me and Carly look at her. "and" she cuts in "I'm seeing him again at the weekend"

I clap for her, Gemma don't do second dates with people she doesn't think she can go far with as she calls it a waste of her time.

"Gem, I'm so happy for you" I say genuinely

Carly looks at her and says "does he have a brother"

We all have a little chuckle together as I carry on typing my email out.

Gemma then starts reading through her magazine, she does this every morning as she gets here early and does not work until she has to clock in. She did this ever since Mr Dodd refused to let her go early one day to see her Aunt at the hospital. Since then she makes sure she only works the hours she is paid for which I can understand.

Gemma then laughs "listen here girls, according to a national survey 68% of women have not actually had a real orgasm" she says shocked and Carly laughs "poor woman"

I look over "how to you know it's a *real* orgasm" I say truthfully

I then here Declan say "you would definitely know if it was a real orgasm"

I look around and start blushing "I see, Thanks Declan" I say in embarrassment as I look back at the girls with wide eyes as they giggle at me.

I just here Declan chuckle as he walks to his office with some files.

The girls laugh and I shake my head "that wasn't cool was it" I now giggle

Gemma looks over "well Jacob clearly wasn't good enough for you in more ways than one!"

"Oh definitely I mean look at me" I say laughing.

That did make me think, me and Jacob never had passionate s*x it was more of him jumping on me to go superspeed and then he cum...I just thought that was well s*x? it was okay but maybe now looking back I was just used. Feeling a little low and even more disgusted in myself I crack on with work.

Declan P.OV

I couldn't help but over hear the girls conversation, I have been sat here watching them giggle and well when I heard what Paige said as I was walking back to my office I just had to say something. She did look cute when she blushed, I shake my head she isn't my type of person plus I am not sticking around.

I look up and see her working, she really does work hard in the company my father is lucky to have such a good project manager. I get a call on my phone and see it is dad.

"yes?" I say shortly

"can you come to my office so we can go through some of these files son," he says

"on my way" I say quickly.

The quicker I get this place running better, the quicker I can get out of here I think of this as I walk up to dad's office.

I look at Sian and I go to walk in his office but then stop to ask Sian a question.

"Hi Sian is that your husband?," I say pointing at the photo.

"Yes that's my Jimmy, we have been married 3 years now" she says proudly holding her heart with a puppy look.

I just walk in the office and say nothing to her. I go and sit down on the couch and my father starts talking work.

I sit there but interrupt him

"Sian a good receptionist?" I say looking at him?

"she is son?" he says with a puzzled look

before I can say anything else there was a tap at the door.

A lady walks in and my dad jumps up to meet her.

"Suzi come in, come in" he says hugging her.

"Hello Mr Dodd it was a pleasant surprise to here from you" she smiles and then looks at me on the couch

"come meet my son Declan, you will be working as a P.A for him while he is down here" my dad says to her.

I'm now getting angry how dare he try set me up, does he think I was born yesterday.

"Dad a word please. . in private" I say as I smile at Suzi

Suzi awkwardly walks out the office and I glare at my dad.

"whatever your plotting dad it's not going to work!"

"here me out son, that there is Suzi Mathews." he says beaming at me with a smile and continues as he walks towards his window.

"her father is CEO of the new coffee company that is rapidly expanded up to be one of the best businesses in London but wanted to branch out all over the country, he is needing outlet's, warehouses and offices and we could provide that and boost this company like no other" he says with his hands clasped together.

I look at him ..."so set up a meeting with her father rather than playing Cupid!"

"I have tried son....but he doesn't respond, if we not only have his daughter working here but if you start dating her then boom the contract would be ours son think of that" he says eagerly

I am so angry with him "I am not here to string along a lady into getting a contract" I say standing up.

"she is a good looking lady, a model with class and a rich family? what more do you want son? it's about time you settled down" he says sternly

I go to walk out the office and look at him "I don't mix pleasure and business like you DAD!, I came to the office last night and heard what was going on! you should be ashamed of yourself you really haven't changed" I say gritting my teeth.

He looks shocked and starts stuttering "w w well I I it's abit of fun son, there no harm"

I laugh "really ... so Jimmy her husband will also think it's harmless eh" I say stating a fact.

"that's my business son! not yours" he says sharply and then continues

"she will be working along side you son I have said it will help her with her experience that she needs as doesn't want to use her Daddy's company as no one will take her seriously.. take her out and get to know her" he says completely ignoring the comments I made about Sian's husband.

There is no getting through to him I walk out and say to Suzi my dad's free now, I storm into my office and slam the door.

Paige P.O.V

I'm on a call when there was a loud bang behind me, I turn around to see a very angry Declan storming in his office. I turn back around and continue with my work. I see this beautiful lady walking towards Declan's office but starts setting up her things on the desk just outside his office.

I stop looking as was then distracted by a phone call from my doctor, I panic and don't pic it up as I still haven't got a clue what to say yet. I see the phone ring out and a moment later a voice mails shows. I start listening to the voice mail.

"Hello Miss Brooks, it's Dr Clegg here. I'm sorry to have to say but due to not having any confirmation we have had to cancel your operation and give that slot to another patient, this is meaning Miss Brooks that your now going to be put back on the waiting list starting a fresh wait time.

I'm so sorry if this is such bad news however I have been waiting for some time and we'll you know that there are so many patients awaiting surgery we need to make sure slots are taken by confirmed patients. I understand you will be in more pain as time goes by so I will increase your prescription. Miss Brooks if I can be quite clear I know you were thinking of your other commitments but I am worried that if you don't get that operation soon you could do serious damage to your ankle as the pressure on it can be too much, please ring me back if you need anything and we can even try get you in on our emerging list down the line but even that has a waiting list. take care Miss Brooks you know my secretary number if you need to contact, Goodbye.

I place the phone on the desk as tears start sliding down my face, how could I be so stupid and choose a job over my Health. I don't know how much more of this ankle I can put up with...I know how much I need this operation. The thought of not being able to pay rent and being homeless crosses my mind. Stuff it I have put up with this foot for this long I can do it longer and save up extra money to cover rent for when Mr Arsehole won't pay me.

Gemma asks Carly if she is still going for a drink with her and I do something I never really do...

"I'm in" I say as I grab my lip gloss and put it on and get my bag ready.

"yes Paigeee!" Gemma says as she starts putting her jacket on smiling.
