Chapter 12 : Hunting spike winged crow.

After killing the group of students, Kris didn't dare to stay a second longer. Those teachers from the academy weren't just for show. They'll surely realize that their students died while hunting.
At the moment Kris was quite far away. But he was still vigilant, looking around with piercing gaze. He saw many students along the way, but they weren't able detect him.
Making sure that no one was around and he was safe, Kris quickly removed his mask and cloak. He put on his academy white uniform again.
" Kris? Is that you? " Right at the moment, a voice full of surprise sounded behind him.
A group of students footsteps could be heard. They were none other than the group he has joined.
Marie was on the front, with Thomas, Walter, Anisa following behind.
They all looked at Kris with frowning gaze full of discontent. Because of Kris's sudden disappearance, they were a little worried and angry.
He left them behind and now he was already inside black tree forest without informing them anything.
Of course they weren't worried for his safety, they couldn't care less about him. It's just that they didn't want to lose points because of him.
It was Marie who spoke, looking at Kris with a questioning gaze as she approached him.
Seeing them Kris laughed dryly and replied.
" I was lost at that time then met a group of fellow student. They helped me reach here. I didn't know how to inform you guys, i'm extremely sorry. "
Kris's explanation seemed reasonable, communication tools were very hard to come by and expensive. So as a commoner it was natural for him not to have one. As for getting lost, it was his incompetency and inexperience.
" You... commoner, do you know how much we had to suffer because of you? Yet you dare to laugh infront of us. " Thomas furiously shouted looking at Kris angrily.
" Shut up. " Right at the moment Marie coldly spoke which made Thomas instantly shut up. He didn't dare to retort.
Marie was the strongest and also her prestige wasn't something that he could offend.
" All right, i don't blame you for getting lost and not informing us about you. Don't mind them, they were just a little frustrated. Now lets continue. " Marie spoke slowly.
They all became a little surprised, because they had never seen her consoling someone.
" Sure enough, a capable leader indeed. With her calmness and intelligence she'll definitely be able to reach a higher stage. " Kris
praised her inwardly for her abilities.
Along the way, Marie asked Kris several questions about his experience till this point.
She was inquiring, it's not that she didn't believe him, she wanted to find out which group arrived first or how many students he had seen.
Kris just made up a story, interconnecting one with another. He told that he didn't know who they were, he only saw three to four groups arriving here first.
" I see, then did you made any discoveries about spike winged crows? " She asked again.
Kris shook his head as he spoke. " I just arrived here not too long ago, so i didn't encounter any spike winged crow. "
Marie sighed with disappointment as she moved forward with the students following behind.
Along the way the met a few small mana beasts which lived in this black tree forest's unique environment.
It wasn't any problem for them to kill them as the group moved forward slowly with a map in hand so they won't get lost.
They all activated spells before entering the forest which could help them to see clearly in the darkness. So it wasn't much problem for them to hunt.
" Careful, more than five spike winged crow ahead. " Marie alerted everyone.
Marie had activated a spell which allowed her to sense the movements in the air around hundred meter.
As soon as her words finished, five spike winged crow approached them with ferocity.
Those spike winged crow's were angered because Kris and the others were invader inside their territory.
" Swoosh swoosh swoosh " One after another razor sharp spikes cut through air and rained upon them from the sky.
" Wind veil. " Marie shouted and activated a defense type spell which shielded her and Anisa.
" Frost shards. "
Thomas acted, unleashing a long range spell. Frost shards spell created numerous ice shards, each of them was the size of a thumb. Those ice shards shot toward the five spike winged crows randomly with great speed.
Few of the crow's got hit by the Frost shards spell and became injured.
It didn't stop their assault, those crows retaliated more fiercely. That's why hunting down spike winged crow's were much harder than hunting normal mana beast.
Thomas wasn't just focused fully on offensive, he was also evading the spikes thrown by the crows.
" Thunder s***h. " Walter wasn't sitting idle either as he used his most powerful spell.
Five yellow light manifested in air which kept flickering gently.
With a loud sound, the five crows were hit by the lightning strike which made them heavily injured.
Their attacking speed and ferocity slowed down. Kris was on the back, he didn't act till now because Marie kept him a backup if something unexpected happen. And also she wanted him to learn from this battle.
Kris understood her intention as he thought very highly of her abilities.
" These crows are a real pain in the ass but great test subject to gain experience for apprentice magician like us. "
Kris observed everything with one hand behind his back. His eyes kept flickering with strange light.
