Chapter 7: Admission.

2053 Words
Kris walked into the academy gate with his coarse clothing. The guards blocked him directly from entering. " You beggar are you looking for a beating?" One of the guard shouted. Kris frowned slightly. He extended his hand as a burning fire lit up on his palm. The fire was just to show his magician identity, it couldn't be of any use in a real battle. " You....you a magician...!" The guards looked at him with wide eyes, fear ran through their hearts. " Forgive us my lord, we were ignorant and foolish..." Kris waved his hand without waiting for them to finish, he entered the gate. The guards sighed in relief, they were just only rank two warrior and couldn't afford to offend a magician. On his way Kris met many students, they all gave him weird gazes. Some were surprised, some were curious and some sneered disdainfully. Kris didn't mind their gazes and walked with an expressionless face. " Who let him in?" Someone shouted . " Did he sneak in here?" " I don't think so, maybe he's here for work." After a moments of commotion everything returned to normal. " I want to apply for magician qualification." Kris said looking at the woman behind the desk. "Hmm? You?" The woman was quite young, she must be from a noble household, looking at her bearing's and attitude. She looked at his shabby and dirty clothes, her eyelids twitched. A commoner wanting to obtain magician qualification was not rare but his appearance was rather very unpleasant. " You should have come here with some nice clothing, the stench makes me nauseous." To her contemptuous words Kris didn't even blink, he maintained his stoic face. " Do you judge looking at clothes or talent?" Kris asked flatly. " You inelegant brat..." The woman furiously looked at him, but she didn't do anything restraining her anger. Kris didn't irritate her any further, she was a rank two magician after all. " Name? " She asked in a cold voice . " Kris." She handed him a token and instructed him to go toward a certain place. " Aptitude approval." It was written on the plate above the door. Kris knocked on the door for a few times but there was no response. Just as he was about to push the door, a voice sounded behind him. " Hmm who are you?" Kris felt the voice was a little familiar as he turned around and saw a middle aged man. " Ah! Teacher Stev! " He cried out in surprise. " Brat why are you here? " He asked confusingly looking at Kris. Kris explained everything about his mana core awakening. He made up a story of him working hard everyday and night then suddenly after waking up in a morning, he found that he had awakened a bright red mana core. He just changed his black mana core with a bright red mana core. Implying that he has a fire affinity mana core. " Hahahaha kid your hard work has finally paid off, such luck is truly unheard of in my whole life. God is looking after you. I'm very happy, your dream will finally come true. Let's go in and check." Teacher Stev was genuinely excited hearing his mana core awakening. He patted Kris's shoulder happily. " Yes." Kris nodded entering the room with him. " Put your hands over here. " Kris did as he said putting his hands over a small glistening stone. The stone was transparent without any color. Upon his touch the stone lit up with bright red color. Mana cores were also ranked according to their grades from F to S-class. The transparent stone would show how strong someone's mana core was and give ranks accordingly. " Hahahah you really are a fire elemental magician, a C-class fire elemental magician at that. Good good very good, much better than D-class and F-class. Come with me i'll personally recommend you to the academy. I have yet to repay my gratitude to you." Stev said happily, looking at Kris with shining eyes. " Then i'll have to trouble you teacher Stev." Kris bowed slightly showing thanks. Although kris's heart was full of confusion about how did he got an A rank qualification, but he still kept an expressionless face on the front. " No problem, you can return for the time being, tomorrow after your admission you won't be a commoner anymore, you'll be an apprentice magician. With that identity change of yours no one would dare to bully you. " All this time he was aware of Kris's hardship, but as a noble himself he couldn't just interfere openly in this matter. " I know. " " An S-class mana core could store 90 to 99% mana, Since i'm classified as a C-class magician my mana core could store 60 to 70% mana. Maybe i got a C-class qualification because my black mana core is C-grade, it influenced over the facade, resulting in my fake mana core becoming middle grade too. According to my knowledge an A-class mana core could store 80 to 90% mana, B-class mana core could store 70 to 80% mana, a C-class mana core could store 60 to 70%, D-class could 50 to 60%, E-class could 40 to 50% and among all only F class has the lowest mana storage of 35 to 40%. Thats why they are considered as the lowest ranking magician with little ability. With such meager amount of mana they could only unleash six to seven spell at best. They couldn't last even an hour in battle with this kind of mana reservation. Only mana replenishing potion could keep them going, but using mana replenishing potions are highly demanded and valuable. " Kris returned to his wooden house, spending whole night reading that book again. He was very interested in that book, because he felt that guy was very similar to himself. But the difference was the guy who wrote that book didn't get his power naturally, someone forcefully injected the power of darkness inside him, turning into a terrifying monster. Kris was very curious about the being who gave the power. Who was he ? A fellow dark elemental magician? Maybe or maybe not. He was trying to find something reading through it. Dawn slowly appeared, replacing the obscure night. Kris closed the book with a plop sound, heaving a long sigh. " Finally finished, i got many valuable information from it. Who ever wrote this book was an absolute genius. Such courage is indeed worthy of respect. Holy church of light and Nine star magic alliance will be the biggest opponent in my journey." After finishing the book he understood that if he wants to reach the peak, facing against these two behemoth were inevitable. There will be a clash between him and them eventually since he was a dark magician. Once they realize he was a dark mage, they will surely hunt him down no matter what. " Even the writer of this book who once had stepped into the realm of rank seven magician died facing against the holy church and nine star magic alliance. The current me is just an insect in comparison. But that's more interesting. " Kris laughed throwing the book aside. He had found innumerable number of dark spells, memorizing everything. Although he memorized them all but it needs more practical experience. Otherwise mishaps will surely happen in battle. Dark arrow, Instant shadow, Void movement, Time decay, Death claw, Night hawk, Ashtral smite, Affinity clone ; These spells were very interesting, all of them were invented by that mysterious book writer. Movement type, attack type, defensive type; all spells were categorized differently. But most of the spells heavily tilted toward deception and illusion. There was very few type of attack and defensive spells suitable for him. Even so Kris was satisfied, it was better than nothing. Since the writer was a rank seven magician, the highest level spell Kris found was also a single rank seven spell. " It looks like the writer was killed right after he became a rank seven. He didn't had any chance to develop thus resulting in his demise. I found more than three hundred rank one spell, one hundred and fifty rank two spell, one hundred and four rank three spell, seventy rank four spell, twenty eight rank five spell, nineteen rank six spell and just one rank seven. All of them aren't suitable for me, i could at most use thirty percent of them for my own use. I could just sell some of these spells when the situation is right, accumulating some wealth. In order to keep up my facade i also need to learn many fire type spells, resulting my cost being double. If i don't show my worth, i won't be able to squeeze out maximum benefits. I could only practice my dark spells in secret." Kris thought inwardly with eyes closed. The next day. Alicia was sitting on her desk in the classroom, seemingly lost in thought. Male students would glance at her from time to time but they didn't dare to disturb her. As soon as the professor entered the classroom, all the students obediently shut up. " Okay students, a new friend of yours will be joining with you today. " The professor smiled looking at them, waiting for their reaction. " Huh?Girl or boy what do you think? " " I bet a girl, hope she's beautiful." " I wonder from which noble house he belongs to! " All the students discussed among themselves spiritedly. Only Alicia kept an expressionless face. " You may enter Kris. " The professor's words fell, Kris entered the room slightly opening the door. A stoic face, tall posture, deep black eyes, black hair, with white uniform he was looking very handsome. His cold face added more to his charm. " Whaaaat! " " Isn't he...? " That cleaner...!" " Commoner again! " " Ruined my mood." " My name is Kris and i'm a fire elemental magician with grade C mana core. Hope we'll get along. " Kris uttered flatly, standing coolly infront of everyone. The students instantly became dispirited, they looked at him with unfriendly gaze. Disdain, contempt, mockery ; Kris could hear everything in their voice. In their eyes commoner's were lower than an ant. He didn't mind it, walking naturally on the front. The professor nodded at him. " You may sit there. " Kris walked calmly under everyone's unfriendly gazes. Only one person in the whole room had a small smile on her face. It was obviously Alicia, she was very happy. Their gazes met, Kris acted as if he didn't know her. Alicia understood his reason and it was the right call. Still she winked at him without anyone noticing. Kris sat down on his desk, looking around he saw everyone ignoring him like plague. " Fools. " He sneered under his breath. With his C-grade mana core he didn't feel dejected. It was better than nothing. A magicians battle strength depends on three crucial factor: mana core, talent-aptitude and wealth. Having a high grade mana core gives them a great amount of mana storage which could be greatly useful in battle. With great talent they could dominate over other magicians. Some talented gods chosen develop two or even three mana core, being able to use two or three element in battle gives them more advantage, their enemies couldn't keep up with their movements. They could learn complicated spells or even create their own spells. Wealth refers to a magicians accumulation. A poor magician cannot buy potions or spells, creating a spell also needs great amount of mana stone. Without variety of spells his enemies could easily predict their next spell in advance and act accordingly. Kris couldn't complete either of this three requirements. He doesn't have a high grade mana core. Talent-aptitude? He was a black mana core user, could be discovered and killed at anytime. He just faked his own mana core, blessed with talent-aptitude was out of question. Wealth? Thats more laughable, he was just a commoner without any background. Kris have to think carefully in each second, making greatest use of every opportunity.
