Can't Escape From Marriage

641 Words
"Her birthday will be in two months. Before her birthday, we will make an announcement about the engagement of Anaya with Viktor that will happen after her birthday. They need to get married as soon as possible so we can take her signatures on the property papers," Janet explained their plans. She's been planning this for the whole month. She was testing Anaya's patience by pressuring her with households chores but the girl never complained even once. Now it's proven that Anaya won't have the guts to deny the marriage announcement even if she does, Janet has a plan B. She will make sure that the girl can't escape from marrying her nephew. "Are you sure the girl will agree to marry my son?" Stephanie asked her sister. "... She's a smart student and soon she will be graduating in business management... while Viktor is a school drop-out and also he's been in a jail for one month," Stephanie stated the shameful works of her son. Janet smiled as if she's not affected by that. For her, Anaya's life doesn't matter because she only wanted the luxurious life she can get from the girl. "Stephanie, don't worry about her approval. She will do everything she's been told," Janet exclaimed. "How are you going to talk this matter to Anaya?" Steven worriedly asked. He's not worried for his niece but his wife's sake about the consequences of her plans. "I will talk to her later," Janet said. Anaya came back from the university and took a bath. She entered her walk-in closet that was once full of expensive brands of clothes, shoes, bags, and jewelry. Her cousin, Tina will come and take away about three to four of her dresses every day. Anaya took a deep breath and wear her casual clothes. She walked into her parent's room which is now her Uncle Steven's room. She is not aware of what her Aunt Janet wants since she asked her to meet in their room immediately as soon as she came home. "Aunt Janet?" she called and knocked on the door. "Come in, Anaya!" After hearing her aunt's voice she entered the room. Everything in this room has been changed. Steven and Janet were sitting relaxed on the couch. Janet pointed a seat for Anaya to sit down. "How was your study going, Dear Anaya?" Janet asked sweetly. "It's—It's good, Aunt Janet," Anaya timidly replied. "Your birthday is coming in one month. Do you have any plans? Anaya shooked her head, " Nothing." "Anaya, my dear... as you can see, we love you like our daughter... we want to give what's best for you," Janet's first statement. "...Before your parents died, they wanted to see you walked on the aisle on your wedding day but unfortunately, they didn't get the chance," she continued. Anaya was trying to hold back her tears remembering her parents. "We, as your guardian... we want to fulfill their last wish... We found a suitable husband for you... He is a great guy and will make you happy. I hope you will respect our decision as to your second parents," Janet said with sorrow in her face and patiently waiting for Anaya's response but she was looking at the floor absent-mindedly. "I will take your silence as a yes, so the engagement will be held on next Sunday," Janet declared. Anaya was dumbfounded but couldn't dare to speak in front of them. She just walked out of the door and went to her room. After locking her door Anaya burst into tears. "How can they decide about my marriage without my consent? What about my studies?" Many thoughts were running off in her head but no words can't explain her feelings right now. "This is what will happen when you have no parents," Anaya said while crying.
