The Adorable Paw

Chapter - 2

Lily and her parents slept peacefully that night. It was the next morning when Lily's eyes opened as the alarm rang.

It was a Sunday morning. Sundays were Lilly's favourite days. She would prefer waking up early on Sundays so that she could enjoy the whole Sunday. But her parents preferred waking up late on Sundays so that they could take enough rest.

Lily decided to get up and see what the cat was doing while her parents were still sleeping. Lily got up from her bed, went to the washroom and finished her morning routine first and then went to the living room where she had kept clothes for the cat to sleep.

When she went to the corner of the living room in search of the cat, she did not find the cat over there. She was a bit anxious to see that the cat was not over there. She thought of searching the cat everywhere.

The house was not too big for her to not to find the cat. So, it was not difficult for her to search the cat. She turned around the entire living room but she did not find the cat over there. She then decided to go to the bedroom and check.

The bedroom was small. There was space for only a bed and a cupboard. So there was no other space in that room other than under the bed. So as she had only one place to search in the bedroom that was under the bed she though of looking for the cat over there.

When she reached the bedroom the first thing that she did was she knee down and peeped under the bed. When she saw there she could see two Shiny Eyes that were shining in darkness.

Lily took a breath of relief that the cat was safe under the bed.

She thought because of the rain the cat was unable to sleep alone that's why it slept right under their bed, so that it would feel safe.

But Lily was unable to play with the cat since the cat was under the bed and she was unable to reach there. She thought of sitting down they itself and wait for the cat to come outside. As she was sitting over there she could hear tiny meaws of cats.

She could hear the kittens crying. It was a soft and small voice of kittens.

She was smart enough to figure out the sound frequency between a cat and a kitten. She was sure that the sound was of kittens.

She was suddenly shocked and wondering where the kitten were crying.

At first she did not realise but then when she was hearing the sound continuously

she suddenly peeped once again under the bed and tried to check if it was there.

She was unable to see anything clearly as it was dark under there. So she quickly went to the living room and brought a torch in order to look under the bed. When she turned on the torch and with the help of the torch she looked under the bed she saw that there were two tiny kittens with the mother cat.

She was shocked to see that scene.

She was unable to process for a moment. She was very confused and wondering from where did the kittens come from.

While thinking she realised that the previous night when she let the cat inside the house the cats stomach was big. Then later she realised that the cat was pregnant and it delivered at night.

She quickly called her mother and father.

"Mom, dad, please wake up. ", said Lily.

Her parents got up with nervousness. They were worried why Lily was asking them to wake up suddenly.

"What happened Lily? ", they asked.

"Mom, Dad, look what's under the bed. ", she said. " What happened? Tell us clearly. ", said her mother.

"Mom, dad, the cat which we kept inside the house last night was pregnant and today morning when I am seeing she has delivered two babies. ", said Lily.

After listening to that her parents were shocked too. " What? Oh God! We thought of keeping the cat inside for a night since it was raining and sending it out in the morning. It definitely looks like a pet. I thought the cat would go back to it's house by morning but now I don't know what next is going to happen since now her kittens are over here. What will we say to the landlord? I thought for a night nothing would happen but what about the kittens now? ", said Lily's father. "Yes exactly. We shouldn't have left the cat inside the house yesterday itself. We should have sent it out. Lily look at this now. What you have done because of your wish we have to see this now. ", said Lily's mother.

"Mom, Dad I'm sorry. I did not know all this would happen. I was just trying to help the cat. I don't know why this happened. ", said Lily. "What's the use of saying sorry now? We can't do anything.", replied her mother.

"Hmm.. that's ok now. Let's figure out something. Let me ask few people around the house and try to find out whose cat it is. If we find out who is the owner then we can send the cat to them and also the kittens. ", said Lily's father.

"Yes, that's a great Idea.", said Lily's mother.

Lily was sitting silently. She was feeling weird about whatever was happening. But she was confident that whatever she did last night was not wrong. She knew that whatever she did by helping the cat was a good thing.

But, she was sad that her parents were a bit tensed about the situation.

When her parents were talking to each other about the cat she was continuously looking at the cat and the kittens. She was feeling very bad for them. She decided to not to let them go at any cost at that moment. She decided that she will stand by the cat and kittens and protect them at any cost.

She decided to convince everyone and protect the cats.

After a few hours. Lily was quietly sitting down. She was very upset and scared that her parents would take away the cats from her.

"Lily, why are you sitting like this? Come and have breakfast. ", said her mother Shelly.

"Mom, I'm sad that soon the cat and the kittent will be away from me. I have got a sort of happiness from the time they are with me but I am scared that they are going to get separated from me. ", said Lily.

"Lily, what is this behaviour? Yesterday you agreed that the cat is going to be with us for a night and today you are saying that you do not want to make the cats away from you? How did you change your thoughts overnight? ", asked her mother Shelly.

"Mom, I agree that I had said that I will be keeping the cat for a night only but today the scenario is different. The cat is not alone she has to kittens with her. So, how can we send her away with her two kittens? I don't think so the kittens can return back to the original house even though the cat goes to her house. ", said Lily.

"I do not know anything about that, Lily. Let's talk about that later. For now please come and have your breakfast. ", her mother Shelly said and left from there.

The cat that was under the bed was listening to all of the conversations. It was hearing them as if it was able to understand whatever they were talking about.

Lily gets up from the place where she was sitting and goes to the living room to have breakfast with her parents.
