Who Is He?

Chapter Five

Elsie's POV

I cranked my eyes open one after the other and the first person I saw was James, his hands were tucked in mine.

I looked around and that was when I realized that I was in the hospital.

I tried to remember what happened but I couldn't, my head ached and it made a loud sound in my ears.

"You are up", James avowed, he wiped his tears, I couldn't understand why he was crying, "You are up", he said again

I tried to get up from the bed and James helped me with that, "What's wrong James?, is everything okay?", I asked

James looked at me for a while but he didn't say a word, tears rolled down his eyes uncontrollably. Apart from being an intern which was under my supervision, James was also Toby's friend and I was like a sister to him.

"El...El...Elsie", James stuttered, he let out a whimper after every word, "Mom...mom...dad...Toby...Mom", he broke down in tears, they came like a wave

I closed my eyes and held my head, what happened swept through my head, I could remember. We were attacked, "James, where is mom?", I asked, I was starting to become uneasy, I knew something must have gone wrong, "What about dad and Toby?", I asked again, hoping he would give me a positive answer to my question

"Elsie", James cried, "I'm sorry", he sobbed

I held his collar, "Talk to me James, where are they", I shouted

James held my hand with his collar, "Elsie, we...we...we lost..Elsie, we lost mom and dad", he blurted out

My hands dropped from his collar, I couldn't believe what I heard, I could remember we got attacked, but I couldn't figure out why we got attacked and who did that.

"Tell me this is a lie", I cried, "Tell me you are lying", I screamed and held his collar again

I wasn't going to believe that, I wasn't going to lose my parents just like that, they were so precious to me and I couldn't take the fact that they were dead.

"Calm down Elsie", that was all James could say

"And Toby?", I asked

He sighed, "Toby is in the ICU", he responded

My hands fell from James' collar again, it was like my whole life had ended, I felt helpless, my parents were dead and my only brother was in the ICU battling for his life

"Who did this?, who the f**k did this", I roared, "I'm not going to spare everyone who has a hand in this, I won't spare anyone", I cried and punched the vase beside my bed, I felt the glass pierce through my hand

"Hey, you will hurt yourself", James said and held my hand, the blood from the cut dripped down

"My parents are dead James, does...does...that..does..that mean... I... I can't see them again?", I stammered

James pulled me to himself, I cried in his arms, my tears soaked his shirt.

"I want to see Toby", I said to him

"You need to take a rest first Elsie", James stated

"No, I want to see Toby now", I insisted

James sighed, he helped me get up from the bed and held my hand as we walked to the ICU.

I felt broken to see my brother battling for his life, I was so sad to see Toby laying on the bed helplessly, his body wasn't moving and all I could hope for was for him to open his eyes.

I staggered but fell in James' hand, "Who did this?", I asked myself. I could see an image in my head but it was so faint.

"Come on Elsie, I will go sign your discharge papers", James stated and helped me back to my room, "Here", he said and handed a bag over to me, I looked into it and it contained my clothes. "Go get dressed, I will be back", he added

I walked reluctantly into the bathroom and changed my clothes, all I had in my mind was to get a revenge on whoever did that to my parents and Toby.

I wanted to see my parents, I couldn't wait for James so I decided to go on my own. I walked through the hospital's hallway and on to the morgue.

I could feel someone following me, I stopped and I saw someone turn briskly into a corner. I couldn't think of anyone who could do that, James wouldn't play such prank on me, even if he would, not at such critical moment.

I kept walking again, and I couldn't hear the footsteps I was hearing before. I heaved a sigh of relief and stopped at the front door of the morgue. Suddenly, I heard a loud sound, it was like something fell.

I turned back and saw someone run and hid behind the pillars, I felt like the person trailing me could be involved in my parent's murder.

I walked to the pillar and I could see someone's leg, I dipped my hands into my pockets but I couldn't find my gun, still I didn't stop, I wanted to see for myself.

I was getting closer to the pillar when someone ran from behind, I ran after him but he was way too fast. I had little strength in me and I felt tired after every step I took but I was desperate to know who the person was.

We got to the end of the block and he couldn't go anywhere, he stopped and backed me, "Who are you?", I asked

He laughed, "You can only know who I am once", he said but his voice was so loud, it was like someone was shouting.

His voice echoed between the walls and came back at us, I was startled as I had never seen something like that, "Why are you after me?", I asked, I wanted answers to my questions

He turned and I could remember him, he was the same guy from the crime scene, "You?", I asked, my eyes widened, "You killed my parents", I barked

"Yes, it was fun", he said and moved closer to me, I was forced to step back, "I want to kill you now too", he laughed wickedly

I threw a fist at him but he ducked it, I tried another but he held my fist, "You are a weakling compared to me", he said, his deep voice kept sounding in my ears, I had never heard a voice so deep and loud as that

"Let me go", I said and tried to release my hand from his grip but he was way too strong, I tried again but I couldn't move, I had to stop.

"See?", he smirked, "Just let me kill you now, it won't hurt", he smiled.

"Elsie", someone called, I turned and it was James.

"Hey James", I replied quickly and turned back but the guy was gone.

I looked around for him but he was gone, just in a flash, "Did he disappear?", I murmured to myself.
