Chapter 26 Josef slowed as he drew near to his destination. He could see guards ahead, a lot of guards, and he could hear shouting. The guards looked tense but there were no sounds of combat, not yet at least. If he was any judge things were heading that way. He had a nasty suspicion he knew what lay beyond, but he wanted to be certain. He moved closer, trying to make out what was happening. When he reached the first of the guards he tried to step past but a large hand was placed against his chest. “Hold your horses,” said the guard at the end of the hand. The guard looked like he could wrestle an ox and win. It would have been easy to assume he was stupid, but something in his eyes warned Josef that would be a mistake. Instead he stepped back slightly and pulled himself erect.
