Josef tried desperately to think of something, anything, which would make everyone stop arguing and see some sense. He came up with nothing, or everything he came up with had already been discussed without bringing people any closer together.
Randolf was in the middle of a long spiel against magic and its users. He hadn’t come out and attacked the Preacher yet, but he was clearly working up to it. Randolf was claiming that the dark portals only opened near those who could use the darkness, that if all such people were locked up the Townsfolk would be safe. Of course, he classed anyone with magic power as one of those who were a threat.
