Chapter 31
Josef’s emotions nearly overwhelmed him. How could Daniel be standing there? Daniel took his arm and pulled him to his feet, then lashed out with his sword and decapitated a nearby brachen.
Josef scooped his sword up from a pile of rocks that had, until recently, been part of the vorg, then pulled at Daniel’s arm.
“Come on, we can’t stay here. There’s too many creatures coming through the portal.”
“We must find a way to close it,” said Daniel. “I need to get closer to it.”
“Maybe, but you’re going to need help to do that. We have some of the captain’s guards. The Preacher has some troops as well.”
“The Preacher?”
“Long story. At the moment he’s about the only one that’s actually fighting on our side, him and the captain. Everyone else is… well, looking out for the
