“Is it gone?”
Daniel jumped slightly. He’d been so caught up in his thoughts that he hadn’t noticed Sarah’s approach, something that was very rare for him. He nodded.
“It is. As far as I can tell the blade is just a hunk of metal now, but I’m not going to take any chances. I’ll need to study it, and I really don’t want anyone else touching it.”
“Don’t worry, I won’t! I can still feel it twisting under my hands, trying to turn against me. It felt alive.”
“I think it was, in some way. There was a darkness living within the blade, sheltering within it. In the end it tried to attack me, and in doing so it left itself trapped outside of its protection.”
