Prologue
The bright, glimmering lights of the ballroom blinded her, yet her eyes still managed to find him.
Her hand tightened around the crevice of the glass, painfully. She paid no mind to the pain she felt as her eyes remained locked on the two dancing figures. His arms wrapped around her waist. Hers on his chest. Their bodies pressed against one another as they smiled losing themselves to the sounds playing. He was holding her.
At one point their eyes locked. She smiled at him, weakly, her mask - masking the anger and sadness she felt. She didn't want him to know.
He smiled back, just for a moment before his gaze returned back to his partners.
"You could go over there you know? It's his fault if he's too daft to not realise you asked him to the ball for a reason."The woman sighed, bitterly. Her gaze finally fleeing from the two dancing figures. The jealousy forming in her heart hurt. She longed to be the one dancing with him, pressed up against him. She knew she couldn't.
"He's not mine to claim."
The music ended. Each partner bowed. His hands grabbed ahold of the mystery woman's hand bringing it up to his lips.
She looked away.
It was hopeless. She knew he wouldn't return back with her, nor to her.
He found someone else to keep him entertained.
