Since Sol met June, it had been quite difficult to be calm — it was usually a nerve wrecking thing after the other — not that it was a bad thing but something about her had Sol’s emotions spiralling.
Yesterday alone nearly gave Sol a heart attack, and today it would probably kill Sol.
Why? You ask?
Sol did ask June out and she of course said yes, now Sol had mumbled a couple of words along the lines of ‘Are you free tomorrow’ which meant in a couple of minutes, June would come over.
In their apartment, just the two of them.
That was one factor to consider as to why Sol was nervous, the other factor would be the date — Sol hadn’t gone on many dates or any, that is if their first & last date at age twenty three could be classified as one.
They were literally dragged all through the mall paying for stuff, that wasn’t even for them — and to top it off, the girl had a girlfriend who got a few kicks at Sol the next day for bothering her girl.
The black eye wasn’t very pretty neither was the pain for the next few weeks.
So yeah, Sol practically knew nothing about dates and didn’t want to mess anything up with June, which was nerve wrecking as it is and the thought of messing up — that was scary.
Sol jumped off the couch when there was knocking on the door.
Sol held onto the door knob, a few breathes in, Sol pulled the door open immediately locking eyes with June’s brown eyes — a shade darker than Sol’s eyes.
“Hey.” Sol spoke with a light smile, that got brighter when June smiled as well.
“Hello.” June’s eyes fell down towards Sol’s hand. “For me?” pointing at their hand.
Sol took their eyes off June, down to their hand — a single white rose in their palm. “Yes.” Sol nodded, giving it to June.
“Thank you.” with a smile she stared at it before glancing back at Sol. “So, will you invite me in now?”
Sol might have forgotten to do that, opening the door wide Sol mumbled. “Oh, sorry.” and took a set aside, letting June have enough room.
June had the rose held close to her chest, eyes roaming Sol’s apartment. “Nice home.” she spoke turning towards Sol, who leaned against the door.
“Thank you.” Sol pushed their body off the door, walking past June for her to follow. “It’s not much or a fantasy first date. I don’t really know what a first date should be like or a date at all.” Sol stopped turning to look at June but she had already sat down on the couch, a soft smile on her face.
“Come sit down.” she patted the spot beside her, inviting Sol over, Sol did just that. “You are doing great and I love it.” she placed her hand on Sol’s knee, gaining their attention. “I got a lovely bouquet yesterday, thank you. And a beautiful rose a couple of minutes ago — you are doing amazing.” June smiled.
“You like everything.” Sol whispered — in disbelief — staring at the snacks and set up in the room.
“I love everything.” June had leaned in, her free hand cupped Sol’s face, right before she slowly pecked her cheek — her touch lingering a bit before pulling back. “I love time with you.” she whispered, softly smiling at Sol.
Sol immediately had their hands on their cheeks, a bit of blush creeping in with a very unstable heartbeat.
“I’m only allowed to kiss you at the end of the date?” Sol asked, their cheeks still hidden with their hands.
“So you’re going to kiss me tonight?” June teased, slowly tapping Sol’s knee.
“June!” Sol groaned. June threw her head back laughing, her hand still on Sol’s knee.
Sol just stared, not irritated or upset just stared at June. Her smile, the few tears at the edge of her eyes that rolled down her cheeks as her eyes closed, her hand on their knee that now inched up — resting on Sol’s thigh.
June calmed down, wiping the tears away, her gaze now on Sol.
“May I kiss you.”
“Sure—”
Sol pressed their lips against June’s, a gasp left her lips as felt Sol’s soft lips. Her mind went on overdrive with a frozen body, not noticing Sol pulled back and she hadn’t kissed back.
“Oh—” June touched her lips with the tips of her fingers. “You meant right now.” she mumbled staring at Sol.
“I shouldn’t have done that, I’m sorry.”
Lightly, June squeezed Sol’s thigh. “You are apologising a lot, don’t do that because I’m not mad, just surprised. Okay?” Sol nodded staring into her eyes.
Letting go of Sol’s thigh, she placed her hand on Sol’s cheek. “Now, can we do that again?” she asked her lips hovering over Sol’s.
Sol leaned in, meeting June’s lips — This time June’s lips moved with theirs.
June was the first to pull back, her hands resting on Sol’s shoulder, pushing herself back — created a bit of distance between them.
“You can kiss me anytime—” June felt Sol’s against hers, placing a peck on them and at that, June chuckled — leaning in, she too placed a peck on Sol’s lips
Sol smiled brightly. “I would love that.” placing a few strands of June’s hair behind her ear. “—go on a second date with me.”
June giggled intertwining her hand with Sol’s. “Let’s see how this one turns out.” she leaned in placing a short peck on Sol’s left cheek. “But it’s definitely a yes and to the third, as well.”
Sol smiled cuddling June, they diverted their gaze from the screen to the woman in their arms. Sol rested their head on June’s shoulder, nuzzling her neck — Sol could get used to this.
