The week hadn’t started out as their best and today, as a Friday, everything seemed to be going well — Sol could say the whole week had been going well, and maybe it was because of one person. “Sol!” Their gaze fell on the woman enthusiastically waving at them by the elevator, just a couple of feet away. Adjusting the backpack strap on their left shoulder, Sol walked over to June with a smile just the same as June — she wasn’t the only one in a good mood today. “Good morning June.” Sol greeted once she got close to the woman, both arms gripping onto the backpack straps. “Good morning—” June’s smile fell as Sol reached for the buttons, she instantly smacked Sol’s hand. “What do you think you’re doing?” “Taking the elevator.” Sol frowned, rubbing their recently smacked hand — it stung a lot. “It’s fast.” Sol hummed, agreeing with a firm head nod. “Just how I like it.” their attention fell on June, who had her lips pursed — of course she had something to say. Retreating their hand from the button, Sol turned giving June their undivided attention. “Just say it.” Sol mumbled, arms crossed curiously staring at the woman. “I thought we could use this time to bond.” once the words left her mouth, June slowly stared up at Sol anticipating their response — which wasn’t much as Sol shrugged. “Can’t we do that in the elevator?” Sol asked turning back to the elevator, waiting on it. “We could but it’s no enough time.” Sol turned their head so fast might have strained it, Sol knew exactly what June was trying to propose — and no, they weren’t with it. “June, don’t tell me—” “We should take the stairs!” How could she — a dramatic gasp came from Sol, as they held a hand over their mouth, not so pleasantly glaring at June. “I have never asked you for anything.” Sol spoke, lowering their hand. “We—” “June, I haven’t pleaded with you on anything, have I?” Sol cut in, now both their hands resting over their chest — technically holding in place their broken heart, that should have earned a bit of sympathy for June. “Just come out and say it, Sol.” Sol briefly closed their eyes right before a sigh escaped their lips, their eyes flew open again — with a few glimmer of tears, that Sol forced out for this show. “Please, I’m on my knees—” “You’re standing.” June remarked. She shrugged when Sol gave her a pointed look, if Sol said they were on their knees she well — expected to see that. And just like that, Sol got on one knee completely catching her off guard. “You i***t!” grabbing them by their shoulders, June tried to get Sol standing again — they were in the lobby for f***s sake. “What are you doing?” June hissed, pinching Sol roughly as they were putting up a fight, trying to get both knees on the ground. Sol jerked in pain but didn’t give up at all, Sol spoke settling in June’s arms — as she held them up — instead of the floor. “Don’t let me walk up all those stairs at—” pulling June’s left sleeve, Sol checked the time then added. “—6:55.” June had pinched them again causing them to jerk again — this woman really resorted to violence so early on a Friday. Sol pouted rubbing their forearm but still not pulling themselves out her hold, or on their feet. “Pretty please pretty lady.” Sol pleaded. “Sol, one time. I want to get to know you more “Six floors!” June ignored Sol, her eyes roaming the lobby — hopefully they hadn’t grabbed anyone’s attention with all this. Sol sighed. Being dramatic wasn’t leading anywhere, so they stood upright on their feet wiping the one tear that they actually conjured, away. “June, we’re early. We have time to sit and talk.” Sol didn’t understand taking the stairs when they could use the elevator, be sweat free without almost dead legs with the comfort of warm tea and soft seats in the lounge. “Come on, you won’t regret it.” June hadn’t given Sol a choice as she dragged them towards the stairs. They were already past three floors as Sol gripped the railing for dear life, their legs were burning and mood had been souring. “I regret it!” Sol shouted, earning a light shove from June beside them. “Quit whining.” June slipped her hand slowly with Sol’s, pulling them to continue up the stairs. “We have pets, colors, food covered. Anything else?” Sol could see her mumble something but their mind wasn’t listening, it had been engrossed with their interlocked hands to even notice the question. Untill June had her free hand snapping in front of Sol, that earned their attention. “Sol?” Blinking rapidly, Sol met June’s concerned gaze. “Could you repeat that.” Sol offered a light smile to assure her. “Are you dating?” “No?” June chuckled, “Are you asking me?” Well they were and weren’t. A quick glance at their hand — still intertwined — Sol met June’s gaze again shaking their head. “No, I’m not dating anyone.” with a hum, June proceed up the stairs pulling Sol along. “Are you?” asked Sol, walking behind June. “Not dating either.” A smile came over Sol’s face and thankfully June didn’t see that — they had no explanation as to why they felt great relief, but they did. Sol rubbed their thumb over June’s knuckles, every now and again earning one back from June. Crashing into a sea filled with warm flowers had been how it felt as Sol bummed into June, her perfume invading their nostrils — they didn’t mind as it was quite lovely. A second later, Sol took a step back creating a bit of distance between them, not intending to make it weird or creepy. “I never got to finish my story two days ago!” June shouted, turning to face Sol. “Then finish.” “I was planning to with or without your permission.” She added pulling Sol again, just this time she was mumbling on where she left off two days ago. Occasionally Sol would hum at whatever June said when they got caught staring — Sol had barely heard what June said through out the rest of the walk, but they arrived on the sixth and Sol didn’t hate it. Couldn’t hate time around June.
