With their head resting against the chair and music lowly playing in the background, Sol had their eyes closed — trying to recharge and get rid of the growing ache they felt in both their head and neck, a few minutes prior. The worse of all had to be it barely being noon or any time close it noon — just nine in the morning on a Tuesday and they were tired — all because of the incompetent colleague who was unable to get one simple task done, and of course Sol had to clean it up. How fantastic “Are you sleeping?” Despite having headsets on, Sol heard her in the background — lowly but they heard but chose to keep their eyes shut, not acknowledging her. Reaching for their shoulder, she lightly tapped their shoulder before she spoke. “Sol, Are you asleep?” she knew Sol was wide awake, they might have though their face remained stoic — but their upper lip twitch a bit when she tapped their shoulder. “I was trying but that won’t happen now, will it?” Sol mumbled letting their eyes open, with their right hand slipping the headsets down to rest on their neck. “Can I help you with anything? Laptop troubles again?” a smirk came over Sol’s face as they caught June glare, her previous laptop troubles had been nothing but an excuse — a silly one — Sol did find it a bit amusing. And June? might have been embarrassed, to even speak on it at all. June shook her head with lips pursed together, Sol noted the brief glimpse of worry in her eyes — now they were a bit worried as well. “Are you okay?” She answered with a nod. “I just wanted some company but if you’re busy then it’s fine.” June bit down on her lower lip, as she met Sol’s gaze — she couldn’t miss the sigh that came after and that got her nervous as hell for no apparent reason but possibly the possibility of — rejection. “Sol, I—” “You found me trying to sleep, we both know I have a lot of free time.” Sol spoke cutting her off on whatever she wanted to say, probably apologize. Taking the headsets from their neck, Sol placed them beside the now closed laptop. “Where to?” Sol stood, staring at June waiting for her to head the way. Unlike most times, the two didn’t end up in the storage closet, which Sol would have preferred over the windy open space. But it had been where June led them, to the rooftop, with barely a sweater on — and with her outfit, a short sleeved dress that hadn’t been that long either — how had she not been shaking by now. Sol had on a sweater ontop of their usual long sleeve shirt, like they usually did — but they still had been repeatedly rubbing their palms down their covered arms, not much could be done for their ears or face. “Are you not cold?” Sol stared at June, running their eyes over her outfit one more time. June shook her head. “Not yet.” Sol had been a step behind her and as she walked ahead, towards the railing, Sol was following a foot away. “So why are we here?” Arms resting on top of the railings, June slouched a bit. “I wanted to stare at the sky.” had been her response, briefly glancing at the sky. “That’s all?” Sol asked, not believing it — it had to be much more than that, June wasn’t — June, today and Sol could tell something was wrong. “Yes, that’s all.” she agreed with a nod, turning her head a bit, June caught Sol slightly frowning. “I don’t believe you.” a sigh escaped June’s lips, while she still held eye contact with Sol. Their brown eyes had been studying her, she knew that — Sol was still trying to even as she added. “But I’ll let it be.” “Thank you.” she breathed out, turning her head back at nothing in particular. Unconsciously June placed her hand over her arms trying to keep warm. June flinched when she suddenly felt Sol, a lot more closer that before. Sol chuckled as they tossed June’s hair to her side. “A sweater won’t kill you.” just then, June felt the soft fabric on her skin, covering her arms. “Warm?” Sol asked, fixing up the sweater and getting June’s hair back in place — their fingers ran through her ends trying to straighten it out. June found it hard to breathe, Sol had one hand on her shoulder as the other run through her hair — she didn’t know if Sol knew, but their index finger had been drawing circles on her neck — for a while now, it made her mind hazy. She couldn’t breathe “Hug me.” “Why?” Sol’s hand fell to her side, their left hand still resting on June’s shoulder, her movements however stopped. Juned cleared her throat, right before she spoke. “It will be warmer and you won’t be that cold.” —and I want to hug you, were the words standing at the tip of her tongue — so close — yet couldn’t free themselves. “Or we could go inside.” Sol suggest as it was the easiest way to feel warmth without trying, and their heart had been beating super fast since they walked up to June, standing so close — too close. Sol couldn’t pull away, they didn’t want to neither could they. “Just a little bit longer.” June mumbled. Her hand over Sol’s — the one of her shoulder — and grabbing their right wrist, June brought their arms around her waist pulling Sol closer. She hadn’t let go of them, she didn’t want to do that, her fingers interlocked with Sol’s — who happened to stiffen at that for a second, their raging heart hadn’t stopped rather got worse but their body respond differently. Pulling June closer, if it had been possible, they relaxed into her embrace and her flowery scent — Sol rested their head over June’s shoulder. June smiled “A lot better.” all Sol could do was respond with a hum, holding onto June — it was ten times better.
