7. Destiny

Sol held a cup of coffee in their left hand, their index finger tapped against the bottom, anxiously waiting on June to arrive. Picking up coffee on their way to work — something they had never done before — hadn’t been the only thing they did. Sol also waited for her by the elevator, as she — June — had done earlier the week. They weren’t forced at all, to do either of those, Sol wanted to and did just that. “Hello there!” Turning her head to the cheerful woman approaching, Sol pushed their back off the wall standing straight — their right arm straightening the long sleeved shirt, before Sol held it in front of them — slowly waving at June with a smile. “Good morning—” Sol’s words faded as June wrapped her arms around Sol, suddenly pulling them into a hug — something Sol hadn’t expected but hugged her back and greatly appreciated. Their embrace wasn’t a short nor brief one, June held on longer onto Sol and they let her, enjoying her warmth and affection. “Lovely morning?” Sol asked, their hand slowly running up and down her back. “Definitely.” June pulled back, faint blush on her cheeks, Sol smiled noticing that. June furrowed her eyebrows noticing the coffee cup in Sol’s left hand, she knew damn well Sol wasn’t a fan of coffee. “Is that for me?” pointing at the cup, June asked. Sol replied with a nod, handing over the coffee. “Thank you a lot.” taking out their hand, June took a sip from it. A smile appeared, it had been exactly how she loved it. The smile was confirmation enough but Sol would still have loved a verbal response. “I got it right?” walking beside June, they glanced at June happily drink her coffee. Since that horrid day turned not so horrid, June made it a routine to talk while they took the stairs — just the two of them — if they could, together at most and Sol wasn’t against it. Correction. Sol was against the whole idea but not against making June happy, it didn’t take much persuasion for Sol to agree — June just had to smile and it was set in stone. “My coffee?” Sol nodded, taking another sip out the cup, June smiled nodding. “Yes, it’s perfect. You remembered.” the last words slipped out unintentionally coming out as a mere whisper. But Sol caught on. “Of course I did.” Sol threw their hand over June’s shoulder, resting it there then lightly squeezing shoulder. “—So, why is it a lovely morning for you, if you don’t mind me asking.” Sol’s arm retreated, resting by their side walking beside her. “Oh that.” June pursed her lips together staring at the coffee, a low hum escaped her lips before snapping her fingers. “Probably because you’re the first person I met.” tapping against the half drunk coffee cup, June flashed her smile at Sol. “And this is a bonus.” “You flatter me.” Sol’s hands rested over their chest. June chuckled. “That’s you.” she lightly bumped into Sol wiggling her eyebrows. “Next time you’ll probably be waiting for me with flowers.” Now, that wasn’t a bad idea. “What are your favourite flowers?” Sol asked suddenly, looking over at the woman. June thought it first as a joke but staring back at Sol, they were dead serious and she knew that. “Sol!” They shrugged. “What? I’m simply asking for general knowledge — I have to know.” Sol shoved their hands into their pockets, lips pursed looking at June — waiting, so they could remember it for future use and probably note it down — for safer keeping, of course. “I don’t have one favourite flower, maybe beautiful ones but— surprise me.” June ended, choosing not to tell the exact flower she adore. Well, at least a tip was given, a beautiful flower — like they weren’t all beautiful — such great help. “I’m not getting you flowers, I’m just asking.” Sol denied glaring at June and her remark ‘surprise me’. June laughed, like genuinely laughed, stopped in her tracks and stared at Sol. “Like how you asked for my coffee taste?” Sol pursed their lips together glancing anywhere else but into June’s eyes. “And looky here, I got coffee today.” she held the cup high, as though she was displaying a masterpiece to the whole world. “I passed by a coffee shop.” “And you just happen to pass my favourite coffee shop, which shall I remind you isn’t anywhere near the route you take to work.” “I took a detour.” Sol shrugged. A detour that required them to get up a bit earlier, walk a really long distance — all for the expense of June. “And you’ll pass by my favourite flower shop.” June teased, a smirk on her face. “You have one? What is it?” Sol quickly asking, ignoring the possibility she was just messing with them. “Sol!” June laughed. Turning her back to stairs, she began running with Sol taking long strides trying to catch up. “June! It’s for general knowledge.” they urged, trying to prey the information out of her. “Yeah, sure.” she quickened her pace, running a lot faster than before — Sol resorted in running after her. “I am very serious.” their voice came out a bit high pitched, as they raced up the stairs after June — who was obviously enjoying this as she chuckled running up the stairs. “f**k!” Sol bent down, gripping onto their knees trying to catch their breath, and they weren’t alone. Sol caught a glimpse of June resting her back on the wall a few steps away, with a hand over her chest — her hair covering her face but the way her chest rose and fell — she too was holding on for dear life. “June, Darling!” Glancing over at Sol, below her, she shook her head. “No!” with that she took off and of course, Sol followed.
